It looks like it could be an alright game.  I generally get bored with asian mmo's pretty quickly though.  Most of them are grindfests with no content, except a bit of poorly done pvp.  Most of the pvp has way too harsh of penalties for the 'bad guys'.  Click to move isnt so bad, leaves your left hand more open for skill activation and such.

Asian games are lower budget.  Because of this it causes them to be inferior to big budget titles.

there is only a very few asian games actually.. most of other are custom copies of succeful ones ( Lineage series and MUD for the most part). The majors games have a large budget bigger than games such AoC.

    They have less content.

people might not like games like lineage2 but saying a games designed arround pvp ( not metion the flaws here such grind etc only content)) have less content is being pretty ignorant if you ask me

You have to grind longer in Asian games to see what content there is.

Really ? how long to get to top lvl in EQ1 back then ? how long to get to top lvl in games like SWG and AO back then ? AOC ? those nowdays are easy specially with high lvl helps but what if you start from scrath ? because if you want to compare grind then you need to compare with games that are about the same age.

    Sub par movement animations.

Impossible upgrade paths for weapons in the game so that you end up loosing most of your gear trying to upgrade it.

How is that a bad point ?

Fewer types of mobs to fight against.  You usually end up fighting the same model with a different name later in the game.

how different are most of the games ? its all the same everywhere pretty much.

Usually have graphics that do not look as nice because Asian games target lower spec systems to play on.

wrong, again if you want to compare dont take the free games as exemple.. those are copies with low bufget.. ther is no design research behind. You like manga style or you dont but thee design of games like lineage are jsut terrific.

Usually use old out of date middleware and game engines that do not require expensive licensing fees.

like lineage using UT engine 4 years ago and AION ( next major NCSOFT title) using FARCRY engine ?

They are usually lame potion spamming games.

So you try a empty game such RFO and ARchlord and you make it as a general statment ?

And yes, point and click games are annoying.

Diablo was p&c as far as i remmember.. didnt bother players though. i dont mind both WASD and P&C

As for the main tpoic, GE  is wayy too empty of serious content to be a majr title.. the grafics of lands and avatars are very beautifull ( assuming you liek that style) but there is not enough customisation of you're familys wich is a MAJOR flaw for US/euro markets.

IF there is a promising game coming soon that will probably seriously compet with AoC ( still i have hard time trusting FUNCOM for that one) and WARHAMMER its AION.. least NCSOFT is trying to release a game more on the US/EURO way to play ( read less grind, morecustomisation, more content than usual) and aiming directly to compet with WoW.

     NIce..

what would be your top 10 asian mmorpg games. just tosee which i havenot played yet... or needs translated to english

Have no fear, Xru is here.

    Nope it won't do good.

I find that its kinda sad that a good many people just diss on a game just because its from Asia or from Korea. Some the US games like WoW and EQ / EQ2 for example actually has taken elements from older Korean games like Ragnarok and Lineage and sort of ported them over. The problem is most US gamers aren't exposed to games from Asia especially,  that they think WoW was "original".

I for one would prefer more MMOs to take up the "free download, free to play, pay for unecessary but nice to have premiums" model for one simple reason. Way too many MMOs even paid ones come out of the box incomplete and way too early. Vanguard for example. Anyone who can say with a straight face that its "ready for shipping" when it came out need psychiatric help.

At least with the free to get, free to play games I can try them out and if its not any good or not my thing, no loss other then time. With the current pay for the game, pay to play, not only I have to fork out cash to install a game that you don't know if its really any good, if after a few months I find that the game actually is not what I wanted, I would have already wasted subsciption fees on top of having bought a crappy game to start with.

Which brings the state of the gaming industry to the forefront. Lets face it, MMOs aren't the only one suffering from this, there are more half baked, incomplete games coming out of publishing houses then good solid games. Of MMOs, the only few that I can think off that were really solid were EQ2, DAOC, and WOW.  But they are far from ideal.

I personally think that the Asians have it right, get the games out,  you aren't obligated to pay or play but being free you are welcome to give it a try. If the game isn't your thing, you are free to find something else.

They are begining to learn that graphics and grinding alone does not make a compelling game, and I do see games coming out from them  that  are trying to bridge the "lack of content" gap. They still haven't got it right yet, but at least they are trying.

I don't see the American game companies learning from the Asians though.  You cannot just wave your hands and poo poo the "free game" model because sooner or later someone will come up with a free game that will blow everything away and frankly, as long as the American consumer continues to willingly pay and buy incomplete games, my money is that it'll be an Asian game.

Perhaps one day I'll see a game which will have the beautiful artwork that the Koreans use (think Final Fantasy XII CGI style) , with full fluid movement animation, full facial / body customization, full armor and weapon customization and ....content to go along with all that.

You want "prettier dresses, "special costumes, ornate weapons or buff pills....buy them with a credit card / paypal. But as far as everything else goes it'll be free to download, free to play.

    Wouldn't that be a dream?

While I find Granado Espada enjoyable I can understand how some wouldn't.

1st off the action is pretty fast paced especialy if you're used to the slower western paced games. Secondly while they do a decent job of hiding the grind it's still there to be sure. On the plus side though the game & costumes are beautiful. The Score is also a welcome change from the standard gloom & doom soundtracks.

I would also caution against the over exuberance for AOC & WAR though. While i find AOC interesting I've seen nothing that suggests either title will be much more than standard fare.

At this point I'm ready for something diffrent than the standard cookie cutter MMO. So far GE has been the only title that's kept me from CoX consistantly in 3 years.

To each his / her own I guess.

they also know how to make the longest grind games... "diiing, yay lvl 50 now i just need to get 51 by killling 100000000000 mobs, oh wait i can even do it while im afk and dont really play the game" yeah its a really great game...

The Only thing going for these latest Korean mmo's is the nice graphics. A nice way to hide the game's true mechanism.
  • SynxVIISynxVII Member Posts: 168

I played pre open beta for this game. I gave it a try but it just sucks.... I hate the way mobs are randomly scattered everywhere and the respawn rate is insane. Its just a grindfest game. It has a very limited few quests which are the typical "go kill x of x type mob". Besides that its a grind game. War and AOC have nothin to worry about but from this.

Aion I think will be a different story though.

While Grando Espada has its own charm and perhaps fun for some people I really don't think it would threaten subscription numbers of the new upcoming big name mmos like age of conan or warhammer online.

K2networks  my god you must be smoking crack lol

WAR and AOC should be laughin at this.

3 cheers for korean level grinding mmo's!!!

where Quests dont mean squat and the only way to work your way up through the game is pick a spot and kill the same creatures over and over again

While I like the fact that you can control more than one character and the fact that it eliminates the need of a healer because one of you characters can be one if you desire, however, the lack of customization (I understand they want the best performance, but making them exact clones is just silly), fully instanced, point&click (i know it wouldn't work as WASD, but still), patrol mode (auto bot feature although I don't know if K2 will do anything about it) to name a few. Not saying it won't be successful, just not enough to be able to compete with WAR and AoC thats for sure.

I stoped playing EQ2 because it has no character development and customation. How then Sword of the New World can have it, if it doesn't even have what EQ2 has?

    What's character customation is?

    1. Ability shape the character body, so that it's unique. (Colors, face, body type, size, hair types and so on..)

    2. Ability make so that that character action combination possibilities will become unique. (Means no ready made path for characters, but players customize they characters by choises inside the game)

    3. Clothing choises. Ability have so many different looking wearable clothing that it's rare to find two same looking character.

Example: City of Heroes has done it pretty well. But even there could be more of choises at least in powers. Also they missed the characters basic stats totally.

This game looks really lame. To compare this with Age of Conan is really absurd. Go check the lame movie the guy posted, then go to gamespot to watch the newest Conan movies. Conan is at least 10 years ahead, graphically but also in gameconcept.

This korean game might interest me to download if im bored and if its free to play. But to be honest i dont think its worth the space on my harddrive, i prefer real mmo's instead of the korean f2p crap.

The more Asian MMOs I play the more I am convinced that there is some sort of a very limited "MMO Creator" tool that they are all using. Same characters, same theme, same animations, same spell effects. Everything the SAME.
  • The_ArchonThe_Archon Member Posts: 49

Meh.  It's been said enough times already: asian games usually blow.  The entire style of this one just doesn't appeal to me either, there's just no way it can compete with an IP like Conan.

And besides, games like this just invite kewldoods, botters, and whatnot.

i thought the game looked interesting, got into beta.

played for a few hours. turned it off and deinstalled.

compared to Tabula Rasa, Warhammer, Spellborn, this game is going no-where in North America.

I don't think AoC will either, but, Tabula Rasa, Warhammer, and Spellborn will in my opinion...

Yeah, I don't think this game is going to be beating Warhammer or AoC (provided they don't shoot themselves in the foot or that fans become more realistic and stop hanging their mmo hopes on these two games. They are games and not the last hope for all gaming!)

I don't think that it will fail but it is so different from Warhammer and AoC that it won't attract the same people, the setting might be off putting to some (I think it's neat but many won't). Though I would say that because of the setting, people should be hoping it does well enough to last. so many people are complaining about too many fantasy games. This game seems to offer something a bit different so hopefully it will open up the playing field.

Also, I personally have no desire to control 3 characters. I bet most people fall into that category.

Well I play MMO's to play with other people.  Since this game already provides you with three characters, I see a lot of soloing going on.

So I will avoid this one for sure.

Love how people say Lineage 2 has done well.  Ultima Online has had about the same number of subscribers as Lineage 2 in NA and UO is 10 years old . Also one can't just look at subscribers because the majority in "korean grinders" are bot farmers which are far from real players.  AoC hopefully will live up to hype and give us that don't need uber ep33n pwnz nubz 3-d b00bs something to play.
