Speaking numbers wise I think WAR will do better than AoC. For one their are more WAR fansites than there is AoC fansites, also just look at the number of topics and threads for each AoC and WAR on this fansite alone. Also I think AoC will drop in subscribers when their video card kicks them in the teeth for trying to run the game, and inevitably those people will try WAR.

i lost interest in 2 minutes.  he never shows any gameplay or anything that shows you what he is talking about.  plus he sounds retarded. if i wanted to watch someone bein stupid i would of watch xplay. no offense to the guy or the video but how can you talk about somthin and not show what you mean?  sure he puts up those tiers things but he never shows gamplay or examples of what he is talkin about.

also i watched some gameplay on another video.  right off the bat conan graphics look alot better. it also looks like pretty much every other mmo out their.

and last but not least pvp.  this statement is on the main website for warhammer online.  quote "Next generation Realm vs. Realm game system integrating both PvP combat and PvE quests on the same map in support of the greater war. " unquote. if that doesnt say its mostly pvp than i dont know what does. even the quests your doin are for the war which is pvp it sounds like. so even if your not doin pvp you are helpin out in pvp.

While reading through the features on Age of Conan's website, I personally fail to see where it explains why AoC is sandbox.  Aside from player made cities and guild warring, it seems much like any other MMORPG.  It seems far too focused on the Age of Conan storyline to be considered a sandbox MMO.  Half of the listed types of PvP fights actually seem to be instanced (Mini-games and arena fights), I fail to see how this is sandbox.

While I'm not knocking it because it's not a sandbox (personally, I don't think sandbox MMOs would do well), but was just curious as to why everyone seems to think AoC will be such a groundbreaking sandbox MMO.  Is it because it gives the players the option to pick fights with other guilds, or because it's rated Mature?

    You are right

Both are class/level based. It cant be truly sandbox with that system. But for me AoC is closer to the original meaning of sandbox. And the player built citys will create more PvP feeling for me. And its Conans 70 years of lore that i want to explore.

    AoC:

Unique feel;  Twitch 6 point combat

Sandbox (Open world to be roamed and explored)

Player made cities (and destroyed?) gives a feel of actaul player dominance

    Warhammer online

Another DAOC/WoW/Dragon9/EQ2 and how ever many DAOC clones

im sure AoC will be a good ish game, FUncom have lost me as a customer with AO and the fact that they havent released that much info on the game itself, but im sure that those people who AoC is targetted at will enjoy it muchly. bunnyhopping combo mashing isnt really my kind of game, i prefer more sedate and tactical to xbox style. (anyone who says that the pc game wont be xboxed up really should look at the interface in oblivion for an example of what i think is going to happen).

ill probably buy AoC while im waiting on WAR, it seems daft to just slate it without being willing to play it (like some enjoy doing to other games).
haha never heard anyone call that "tactical", generally when theres not much your enemy can do other than sit there I dont think it means the game is tactical; it usually just means a child can do it.

Who knows which will be better I'm sure each will have it's own merits as well as population of players.  But you never know.

Warhammer Online will disappoint, Age of Conan will be a total fucking trainwreck on par with Anarchy Online. Darkfall Online will never get released. The PvP side of the genre is dead. It pays to be pessimistic as the industry invariably fails to deliver.

Well, my MAIN focus point on why I by default am looking forward to AoC over WAR is simply the battle system.  The battle system IS groundbreaking for a MMO.  I personally HATE the battle system of WoW /  Vanguard / LoTRO, ect.  It isn't me.  I don't like someone shooting an arrow at me while I'm running and the arrow curves to hit me regardless of where I move.  I hate how I may appear to have went 'out of range' in time but instead, they still swing their sword and it looks like it hit nothing but I still take damage.  I can't stand this and it really bothers me.  AoC will allow me to DO something about it.  All I can hope for is the server latency is minimal.

If for whatever odd reason the game fails, well, I duno.  I probably won't be playing a MMO for awhile until I find another as exciting.

    Warhammer OL beta smashes 200K

EA Mythic's fantasy MMOG breaks 200,000 beta sign-ups in first 10 days.
    By Tom Magrino, GameSpot
    Posted Jun 13, 2007 6:10 pm PT

Warhammer Online's past has been as brutal as its subject matter. Its original incarnation was dashed after ill-fated developer Climax lost control of the project twice, first after Games Workshop pulled the plug on the project and then again when Mythic Entertainment stripped the license after the beleaguered developer attempted to trudge on alone. The massively multiplayer online game's future then took yet another unanticipated turn, as EA acquired Mythic in an effort to break into the massively profitable MMOG market.

However, judging from initial interest, the fantasy wargame's future may be headed for more placid waters. EA today is reporting that in just 10 days, more than 200,000 registrants have signed on to beta-test the upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Those wishing to register for the ongoing beta can do so at the studio's Web site.

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning is an officially licensed offspring of Games Workshop's classic tabletop wargaming franchise. The game has not yet been rated or priced but is due out early next year. For more coverage, check out GameSpot's recent previews.

pvp in aoc will be 4x4

    or lags kill you

for 10x10 u will already need fusion powered computer with those big boobz bloodgore grafics
  • HorpseHorpse Member Posts: 27

No way an mmorpg with photorealistic graphics can handle the latency without much lag. Absolutely no way. People with very good graphics hardware form a TINY minority among the mmorpg players. AoC may flop hard also due to poor marketing and attitude (they got no Paul Barnett btw). By the time people try to play it, it will feel laggy and as a singleplayer game. A lot of game information for AoC has not yet been released unlike WAR. The fact that they want to release earlier is to CATCH the early income, then decide later.

According to this interview, AoC seems to fall for the common fate of current mmorpgs. It is NOT the special features (eg the new combat system) that attract most of the players. Its either its fun or boring, a boolean condition.

A very good reason to why I voted for WAR, it has to have lots and lots of people playing.

Dun get me wrong though, I may still buy AoC only if there is no lag, and if there are lots of people playing. And it has to be in massive numbers, just like the many players visiting the AH in WoW at major cities.

    Cheers,

    2 cents

More people drink coke, everyone knows that! And I predict that WAR will SMASH Age of Conan in subscribers by the end of 2008!

Who really cares which game will have more subs.  As long as the shard you play on isn't desolate, and the population doesn't affect your gaming.

AoC and WAR cater to different people.

I myself am going to AoC for the following reasons:

    Feat system

    Prestige Classes

    Combat   x10

Death Penalty makes sense and isn't harsh ( will not allow for death travel, gratz EQ2!)

    City building and razing

    End game PvP sieges

    Drunken fighting!

    Seperate PvP sphere for advancement

    Diablo-esque potion system

    Intense detail

    Gore and blood!

Fatality moves (ties into the one above)

Casting and healing is all "dark"

    and so much more....

I'd say WAR, simply because i like what it's trying to do better.

And despite removing auto attack, age of conan ATM is still similar to auto attack.  i haven't seen ANY dodging blocking parrying or really any "Action" combat from ANY of the videos, but rather the same old i hit and get hit... if it plans to change in the future then it would be something i'd be interested in.

And fps style ranged and spells?  Thats great... hope its not horrible like ddo in actual practice... where being melee is just as effective while being massively easier to play.

I think WAR's main issue for success is how well they do what they've said they're going to do, while AOC seems to be set up to provide several disappointments. I don't really think that the "M" rating is going to attract a more mature crowd, I think it's going to attract way more "BLOOD AND BOOBIES" kids than proponents expect. AOC seems to be stuck in the raid-game mold, where the only way to be good in PVE is to run raids and the player who raids will get a PVP advantage, and I think once that becomes clear there are going to be some very disappointed people.

But the poll is really silly, since neither game has been released.

Not silly, but it does not mean anything regarding which will be the better MMO. It only reveals people's perceptions & prejudices today based on what they have been fed by the developers.

if the question was which game I  was more waiting for i'd have to say Age of Conan, But I wouldnt be surprised if both games were really good or both games really suck. Please dont suck Age of Conan or i'll have nothing to do until Marvel Universe comes out.

    Games Enjoyed: UO,EQ,AC,EQ2,COX,LOTRO
    Games Played(-Above):WoW,MXO,GW(beta),RFO,ArchLord,V:SOH,Rappelz,Ryzom,DDO

i would choose age of conan over Warhammer just because he brutal combtat AoC have and the combat systems.

Warhammer looks very neat, but if both game came out the same time, then i would lean over AoC more. ^^
