If they actually do manage to get a beta out this summer, how much you want to bet that more than 50% of the features they have promised won't be there. Way to ambicious a project for a small dev team to do. Unless they can find a publisher soon, this will be just another Shadowbane,
im not sure why you even reply to this.. first off they dont really need a 3rd party publisher to publish this game.. if the company really wanna release it.. they would have done long time ago.
Looking on the time they used on this game.. someone is giving em paychecks! and the company behind Darkfall could easyly help with extra manpower without we need to be told about it! (i doubt it thou) .
Looking on what the devs said in earlyer posts about the game.. "they will release a beta thats close to full game" and close is not 50-60% .. so if you see a beta (see it as a sneak view) you will know whenever they are just going to be another vanguard etc. or they are serious!
Lets all just wait and see if they actualy go open beta this time.. and lets prey that they release a GOOD GAME in case they do go for release :P
I'm not sure Darkfall is the game for me.... pretty much a Carebear in my old age.... but I'd like to see it released to give players who've been looking for this sort a game an outlet.....its really been a long time in coming for them.
Df will be a great game for ambitious "carebears".
I think at this point even if Darkfall did have open beta this summer the game would fail and don't give me wrong I had no more fun in mmorpg gaming history than back in 97 to early 98 playing UO abusing all the latest bugs and exploits it was second nature to do so after all if you wanted to compete and cut time on trade skills you just did it and if you didn't you were owned like the sissies you were.
Now regardless of how good could end up being assuming it proves itself not to be vapoware I don't think it'll live up to the hype. This is a different era from early UO see part of early UO's allure was it had carebears for us grievers to pick on, but in this era of mmorpg gaming thanks to EQ the building block to a carebear world for pvers everywhere and latter depictions loosely based off of EQ's success carebears now have a place to frolic in fields full of gummy bears and kittens which drop twenty dollar bills which in recent years has turned into a place reminiscent to the smurfs aka WoW. Now will a all ready small player base by comparison open pvp and no carebears market couple with other competition for the very same market of open pvp gamers leave room for Darkfall to actually be anything more than a mere niche category along the likes of shadowbane?
It really makes you wonder. I really can't see Darkfall being any thing more than a niche success of sorts that's if it ever makes it past it's production hurdle that it's been stuck on for the last 6 years. I'd like to see Darkfall released and as popular and robust as early UO once was, but I have a hard to believing that will actually happen maybe part of that is also due to the hype and demises of UO2 and UXO. Plus the overall disappointment from other open pvp games in recent years such as Shadowbane and Lineage 2 in comparison to UO. Forgive me for being real, but seeing is believing and my official stance on Darkfall at this point is vaporware until proven otherwise. Darkfall is all hype and speculation at this point nothing more nothing less. Will I buy it if or when it's released possibly depends how beta goes.
Like most, I have been watching this game for a few years now. I hope to god that the game does come out soon. Im so sick of item, gear and level based MMO's. MMO Dev's these days have no rocks to make a real MMO. Dev's these days all focus on dudes that want to wear girl panties when they play an online game.... they make big bucks from fruity dudes. Its sad to see my hard core PvP guild turn into a bunch of bishes waiting for Age of Conan to come out. I have been with my guild for over 8 years now and its sad to see dudes turn into females. I have been playing SB and a classic UO shard to pass the time.
From a marketing standpoint they would love to get it out in time for Christmas. I'm not quite sure how realistic this is, but I would expect beta the earliest, though very unlikely, in late August, the latest in November. The devs have repeatedly said that they are aiming for a relatively short beta. I would say it will probably be around mid September, with Darkfall coming out around Christmas.
