It is with a great deal of sadness that I have to inform the community that we have decided to discontinue the development of Warhammer Online and will be closing down this website with immediate effect.
This has been a difficult and painful decision but it was taken following a following a full review of the progress of the game, costs to date and future costs of the project. As a result both Games Workshop and Climax Development Limited, the computer games developer, have agreed to terminate the development project.
I would like to say a personal thanks to all of the people who have followed our development over the last few years, your constant support and enthusiasm has meant a great deal to us.

I agree with numatic, the project has taken such a long time, and progress has been very slow - from when it was first announced to about 4 months ago, there was little to no updates about the game. But, recently, I've noticed the increase in updates from the WO team.
I'm not a Warhammer fan, but the game did have a lot of potential, but I guess, there just isn't the right situation for a game like this to be profitable...

I was a fan of WO, posted in their forums and I created fan art for it. Warhammer onlines darker more mature approach to the genre appealed to me. I feel very sad to hear that it won't see the light of day...ever.
Rest in peace, it as a beautiful dream.

Now it is only Face of mankind for me, if it is buried, I won't be playing any mmorpg in a long time.
Truly a great shame. This had the potential of being one of the best MMORPGs for role playing. Based on their old wathammer RPG it would have been a worthy contender. The setting was great, dark, mysterious, yet somehow familiar.
Lets hope the new WFRPG soon to be released will do it justice.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!
Truely sad when this kind of things happens, this is one of the few games that I have longed for. Oh well back to a sad and borring market again
With Horizons in agony, SWG not the succes expected and 2 800 pound gorillas (WoW and EQ II) coming soon, I think that companies are rethinking their MMORPG strategies. Like it or not the population of players is not growing as fast as expected so we have a limited number of players with a lot of games out there.
I think Ultima X will be the next cancellation ....
warhammer as a game great,
something about the graphics tho,
i think they were good as far as the textures and lightning went but other than that
the faces of the humanoids lacked character and were badly done,6 stock 3d faces are no good.
But the skeleton boogie was good
Shit i'm bad... I self educated myself in ways of controlling feelings, now nothing feels like it's true... gotta be an assasin or sumtin.

....must ....play .....WoW
i believe the gamer population is out there its just that the games arent what the companies say they are when released, and gamers are getting upset by this, or atleast i fo 1 am. SWG was still basicly a beta when it was released, lineage 2 was ok but log in screen said we will stop bots, umm bots still going strong, horizons was released and wasnt what was stated as they changed dragons completely 2 days before beta ended and little or no feed back on problems with them due to this. Earth and beyond topped out at lvl 150 and most players had 2 or 3 avatars at that lvl before any high lvl mobs where placed into the game. seems most of us are giving the games 1 or 2 months after release and if they arent fixing the problems we are leaving and looking for better umm maybe not better but games that work better. i miss UO but wont go back since they made it to easy to lvl, and since age of shadows IMO the game stinks. take the cap off make it harder to lvl let a person have over 700 skill. heres hoping UOX doest cancel, or that EQ2 comes out good and not to buggy, WOW im not to interested in as looks like it will be a younger age group going there. i think if the companies stopped and read the forums here and elsewhere and listed what was said they could make a game to draw the gamers to them no matter how many games are out there. remember if you settle for a 75% game or a 1/2 eaten hamburger its your fault not them gaming companies as they are giving what you are willing to pay for. EQ and UO when they started really gave us our moneys worth IMO. now companies are giving us what they know we will settle for and charging us more.
MMORPG -- Where's the RP?
MMORPG -- Where's the RP?
Your probably right. Theres just something there that I didnt like and I have no clue what it is lol.
NVidia - The way it is meant to be played
ATI - The way it really plays, if it's working....
You guys dont understand how pissed off i am about this. I dont really like to pay to play online, but warhammer was looking awesome, in my opinion it was way above the rest. I was really looking foward to playing it and all. Sucks that they had to stop making it. It really makes gets me pissed off and all.
And yes The Graphics were TOP-NOTCH. Just think of the most perfect MMORPG and you get warhammer.
GOD DAMMIT
First, the graphics, I didn't care for them. I don't care if on paper they are as good as some other hot titles, I looked at all the screens that they released and I didn't like the character models. I also don't think that they are as good as EQ2, Vanguard, and a few others.
Second, as far as Ultima being the next big cancelation. I think that you need to look at the facts. Ultima Online still has a fanbase that's huge even though it's been outdone for 5 years now. That game will be released, if it's good it will suceed.
This is a case of way way too much competition for a limited market. The online gaming market may be huge but there are still limits. We all can't play 10 online games at a time. There are a ton to be released currently and of those there room for maybe 3-4 will big successes. The rest will either cancel or fade away shortly after release. Lejendary Adventure is one of the ones that I most look forward to and I fear that it could easily hit the cancelation list. EQ2, Vanguard, Ultima, WoW, when released are really going to put the presure on the ones all ready out there that are barely getting by also.
Beta is a big problem. These companies let almost anyone into beta these days and then don't pay attention to what the testers report. Any game that wants to survive better quit making retail customers be the last phase of beta. Having some issues is one things, having things that were promised full on not working is a joke. They need to start delaying release or risk turning people away from online gaming all together. If a new car model won't go into reverse, do they release it? and say "we'll fix that later" What a joke.
I think it's a good judgement call by those in charge to cancel this game. Now if only half of the others would cancel everyone could concentrate on the select few that have a chance of making it big. And for the record, I think that there are way worse games than this one that aren't canceling yet.
These are just my opinions and rants.

The thing that differs MMO's from regular games is people usually just pay for one MMO. Apposed to say a FPS game.. Well i have 3 of those. And i think Warhammer realizes this, and if they don't compete as one of the top 5 new MMO's coming out they probably won't succeed at all.
How short sighted....with more and more people playing MMOs all the time and globally, this is not a market where only the top 5 succeed. The rest may not do as well, but they can very easily succeed. There are at least 20 MMOs out there right now turning profits.....and that afterall is how you measure success as a business.
I am sad to see WO go....it was one of three MMOs that had me really excited, and probably the one I was most looking forward to....
Maybe over the past 5 years 15 or so MMORPG's have done fairly well... But the MMO industry is starting to build up.... And alot of the players are going towards WoW, EQ2, GuildWars and Dark and Light..
I'm not saying ALL the players are going to go for those games, but those will be the ones that do VERY good. Now Warhammer online will probably get quite a few players up. But i can still see this as being one of the MMO's who gets maybe 1000 or so players. Seems like alot but when you factor in hosting servers, having devs and 'round the clock customer support, they will not make that much money.
Eventually they will need more money and end up going desperate trying to give out free trials to people (Yeah, this is looking very similar to Horizons).
NVidia - The way it is meant to be played

Actually I think if Horizons hadn't done the player housing the way they had they'd be MUCH better off. If they hadn't gone with the Plots setup they could migrate players off of about half the servers onto the more populated ones. This would cut their overhead alot as they're paying for half as many servers, and also increase/improve the cummunity aspects int he servers that are left. But since people own the same plots on different servers, you can't really ask someone to give up their plot and migrate to another server where that plot is already taken.

it is a sad day for the mmo community and wo fans all around. there were only 2 games i looked forward to this year, wo was one and matrix is the other. i love the story and history of warhammer, and to have it in a mmo would have been the best. i was only soso on the graphics i loved everything but the player models, espically the humans, but damn its all gone ... i have played a lot of mmo's lately and well most suck. the only one currently out i really enjoyed is asherons call, but its changed so much for me as to not be as fun as it once was.
oh and about horizons, that game Was supposed to be rockin some 7years ago when i first heard about it. the ideals, the drawlings, the story all rocked. then crap happened and the game was ruined. i reported so many bugs in beta and only very few were fixed by retail. they kept responding will lookinto it or fixed in later build. why even have a beta if they arn't going to fix the bugs we report.
well here's hopes for a woresurrection .
