Dick Cheney said, "I am an entity and exempt from the law." Is this a direct quote? Can you point me to the source that says this a direct quote?

    Thanks.

No I think his point was that Cheney can say what ever he wants.  Until something is done that is actually illegal or unethical then there is no issue.  Cheney could climb on top of the white house and sing I'm a Little Tea Pot and as long as there is no law against climbing the white house then who cares.  Both things are equally just as idiotic, but until he actually is brought up on charges by the oversight commitee then there isn't an issue.

    "entity within the executive branch."

You just need to see my first two links in my first post.

EDIT:  HE is saying he is his own entity and not within the Presidency. LOL.

What he is saying is that his position is unique as he belongs not only in the Executive branch but also the Legislative (sp?) branch as well.

The only valid point that I could see him trying to come to is that he might come into contact with information in his position in the legislative branch that wouldn't fall under the executive order.  So instead of trying to report what is and isn't in his capacity as a member of the executive branch he is saying that he should be exempt because of the uniqueness of his situation.

Now this isn't a good situation, but it is not quite the conspiracy that people are making it out to be.  Instead it just looks like he is trying to flex a little political muscle, now whether or not he will win out I seriously doubt.  But there is at least a little bit of room to stand on, since he is technically a part of the legislative branch as well.

I think that some people are missing the issue here.

The guy is supposed to report to another group of people who are then supposed to make sure that he ISN'T breaking the law.

Cheney refuses to report to these people, wich he is supposed to do by law.

It isn't about whether or not he broke the law.  It's about him not complying with an order that would ensure that he hasn't broken the law.

If he had nothing to hide, why would he not simply comply?  Obviously he's hiding something, and that something is likely illigal.  Otherwise he woudln't be hiding it!

Come on people.  He's not just refusing to report to them, he's trying to get the committee abolished!  He might as well be wearing a giant friggin sign that says, "HEY, I did something I don't want anyone to know about!"

    Wish Darkfall would release.

He is arguing he doesn’t have to comply with the rules regarding the handling of classified documents.  Considering he’s already had two staffers charged with mishandling classified information I don’t see any legitimate reason his office should be exempt. Certainly there is nothing related to his negligible duties in the legislative branch that would exempt him.

The real problem is that he is trying to claim executive privilege with none of the oversight that goes along with it thus placveing himself beyond any of the normal checks and ballances that the US govenment is based on. It needs to be either one or the other and all logic says he should fall under the rules of the executive branch.  (Keeping in mind he’s also stretched the “executive privilege” argument past the breaking point as well.)

For those of you who still do not get it... IMAGINE a suspicious guy, who has not been officially caught breaking any laws. He's been investigated, and people who have worked for him, have been investigated, and some of them convicted. This guy suddently wants to SHUT DOWN THE POLICE STATION in his area. Starting to get the picture? Should you be worried?

Yeah. Dick Cheney. Is there really any question as to whether or not he has something to hide?

Dick Cheney and Diebold - Gee, how hard was it to rig elections, Mr. Vice President? Considering half the company is connected to you.

Dick Cheney and armed assault - If anyone else "accidentally" shot someone in the face after an argument, they would wind up in prison.

Dick Cheney and Halliburton - Um, does anyone need this explained, again?

Dick Cheney and Enron - Ditto the above.

The man is arguably the biggest criminal in recent US history, yet he is the acting Vice President. Yeah, I'm fairly certain he is hiding something.

    Olbermann makes a funny.

Edit: If you think Cheney is a massive douchebag, take the time to look behind him, and check out David Addington, his former Chief Legal Council.

    Nice. Very funny.

Oh, I agree. His buddies are all equally disreputable. The whole thing reminds me of Capone. Everybody knows he's guilty as hell, but nobody can prove a thing, so he and his friends keep on keepin' on. His ex-chief of staff was a real winner too, as I recall.

That was Addington. He served in both capacities, though at different times, I believe. Unless you're referring to Libby, who Addington replaced after his resignation in Oct '05.

Hell, if i shot a man in the face and he then apologized and I didn't even get a reprimand I'd call myself an entity too

Edit: OK I'll admit that I just finished reading the article and this is the first time that I've ever seen Cheney bashing and hoped to God that it's not true

    White House, Cheney's Office Subpoenaed

The Senate subpoenaed the White House and Vice President Dick Cheney's office Wednesday, demanding documents and elevating the confrontation with President Bush over the administration's warrant-free eavesdropping on Americans.

I understand that some things need to be kept secret (for a while at least) to protect security.  But this administration has completely gone overboard in their unprecedented hiding of information from the public.

Our Republic is dependent on us keeping tabs on our government.  We are the decider's of what happens, not Bush, and we need that information to help us in our decision making processes.  When the federal government withholds that information from us we are naturally unable to make an informed decision.

Now, what exactly would they be hiding?  I hope that comes out so people can see how we have been sidestepped in our countries business.

I could literally rip Draenor apart from a an obtuse amount of angles, but really what is the point?  Bush and his entire coccus are so OBVIOUSLY dirty, there is SO much evidence to support a plethora of legalities broken and you still have a grotesque number of blind patriots supporting them.  Just thank FOX and move on.

Oh, Draenor, FOX called, they want their rhetoric back.

Former Republican Attorney General Wants To Impeach Cheney

Former Republican President Ronald Reagan's Associate Deputy Attorney General Calls for the Impeachment of Dick Cheney:

Well, if its in the news, or a blog, or on youtube, it must be real!

    Like this youtube.com/watch

Don't forget that all Republicans are Militant Christians, all Democrats are secretly trying to make all children gay, all muslims are terrorists, the EU is a secret plan run by the 4th Reich, doped up alien gangers from Tau Ceti are trying to cross the Rio Grande every day, and China is going to attack next year.

Like any questionable actions by a public figure, there will be committees, investigators, if the need arises judges and courts, and if badness is found jails and fines.  Debating it on this forum seems more like a means to convince others of  your own opinions here.

To sum up: "...go home and die." - George W. Bush

Ahhh but what is it that make sure it, aka the problem (in this case Cheney breaking the law), does indeed lead tyo investigators, judges, courts, jail, etc...?

It is the glaring PUBLIC ATTENTION. And that is what is being done here on these forums. The power of the internet is being used to stir up public attention at this goverment figure, to make sure his actions do not go unnoticed, or little noticed.
