Even before this game was in beta almost everybody was convinced this game would wipe WoW and other existing MMO's from the market.
Just look at the topics now... almost everybody finds the game boring and not fun to play in the end-game. But still the same people hype games like WAR and AoC like they did with this game.
Is it so hard to learn a lesson? I keep laughing at every topic with "Game X will destroy game Y totaly!" or "This game will totaly own the whole market!". Sad part though, good games get beaten by this.
Just stop posting hype topic about games yet to be launched!! You are only making a fool out of yourself!

Man, if you don't like it stop spending your time ruining this forum. Heck, I'm sure this thread will take up at least 1 dollar of bandwich, poor MMORPG owners, just because you don't like the game they'll have to pay!
WoW is a few years into it's lifetime. LOTRO is, what, afew months into it's own time line?
The major thing people don't understand about MMOs is that they are in fact not console games. They are constantly words in progress and obviously one is going to have far more content than the other. Look around the game and make your own fun, Have some imagination. Learn a craft. The content will come like it always does.
people said vanguard was going to be the next big mmo,and look what happened there...
nothings going to come close to warcraft for a long time.
Yes, and Blizzrds makes some good money of it, but do you think they ever offer free content like Turbine does? NO! So why should we care obout how many people play it? C&C3 has way more sales than Supreme commander, still Supreme Commander is one of the best RTS games ever. Why doesn't everbody see it? because there are othere players who are so big that a casuel gamer can't look beyond it any more and see the good things of the others games. The very same thing aplies for Lotro
sadly i tend to agree with you . i m holding out hope for age of conan or warhammer but i wont be buying before i try in future. after vanguard i m gonna require a free trial . fortunatly i did beta test lord of the rings , i did nt think it was a bad game but niether was it the warcraft killer (my view is vanguard should be made free to play as was archlord and lord of the rings should have a cheaper subscription fee.both of these stratergys would work wonders ). conan seams to have innovative ideas and warhammer could be a bigger better version of warcraft . still at the moment thats all hype who knows how well they run and play . we can only hope .
I take gaming as a hobby/passtime, so if I did not look forward to games like aoc, my hobby would become quite unsatisfiying. What is wrong with looking forward to a game and hoping that it ends up as good as it sounds?
LOL, I bet you didn't even try out LOTRO

Of course not. Playing it would only support objectivity and facts, and these are enemies of trolling

Don't play a game because of the reason "it's a WoW-Killer" it wont work that way.
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
I play LOTRO and am currently at the end-game. I can honestly confirm, saddly, that the end-game is absolutely rubbish. I don't even log in anymore (wtf why am i still paying.. beats me).. Anyway.. The problem isn't the game.. I like the game.. the problem is the community.. it's basically non-existant beyond level35. Not sure why, but people just "vanish" after that. It can take up to 3hrs just to get 1 raid together. By then everyones gotta log! LOL.
I also am considering how new the game is, which is why i'm being patient with it.. I plan to buy "Two Worlds" next month and this month am just working my way to level 50 (lvl45 atm)... i'll then take a breather and come back as players begin to catch up to me. What I don't get is i'm a highly casual player.. i only can play 3 days a week... seriously what is taking people so long or are they all just quitting heh.
I play Silverlode btw.
I have only played 8 or so MMO's ever since their inception many years ago. However, I feel that of all of the games, LOTRO has shown the greatest potential from day one. Never before have I played an MMO that was so complete and stable in game-play like LOTRO right out of the box. Sure, there is still a great deal more content that needs to be provided and I have stumbled across a few tweaks that could help. But, with the game-play is currently so complete, the only focus for the programmers at this time will be more content. Which means faster turn around on new content...
For all of you that are ready to just dismiss LOTRO as a WoW clone and deem it not worth playing, give it a year or so when the game and its developers have some real-time experience (which all games need to truly be great). Who knows... all you nay-sayers maybe right, just give the game is fair chance before tossing it in the fire.
What I don't get is why everyone dismisses this game because it's end game content isn't on par with EQ2 or WoW. It's two months since release, unforetunantly Turbine focused more on the leveling experience than the end game experience. Which is why people find it such a great game, but have trouble logging on now that they're at the end. The same problem plagued WoW when it was released, it took a while for it to get end game. I say do what _Kyle_ is doing, get your character to 50 and take a quick break play something else and wait for the content to come. Turbine has always been good at releasing their free content updates, and just think of what they can do with the Lord of the Rings name. Just think about how awesome the battle for Helms deep could be, and so on. Just my two cents.
1st off... the gaming market is HUGE. There is plenty of room at the top for a few more blockbuster MMOs. LOTRO is just another layer of what is next: more of the same. Hopefully the game creators will catch on and give us more than the same old fantasy genre.
I look froward to games like Pirates of the Burning Sea. And would love to see a legitimate FPS MMO. Pop or not, consider a "Halo MMO".
1. This game is fresh from beta, of course there wont be as many people as WOW in the end-game levels!
2. yes you play 3 days a week but HOW LONG on those days? playing 12+ hours each on those free days isn't exactly casual if you look at the hours per week...
I would work on another charecter or two (playing yourmain not as much) and wait for more release/players
First of all, I did play LOTR. I played the beta for some time. I never said LOTR is a bad game. Hell, I aint saying anything bad about any game.
I just wanted to point out that using a non-released game to bash a released game is plain stupid but it's just whats been happening for the past years here on MMORPG.COM. While people think I made this topic to bash, thats not true. Although I used a topic name that draws some attention because people tend to read only the topics with stupid and aggresive names.
Stop comparing one game with another, its just pointless (more pointless even if the game isn't in beta yet). On the other hand, try not to listen to all those hype talk by the devs
wtb a good sci-fi or post apocalyptic(fallout) mmorpg please.

have you looked on the MMORPG.com's home page? LOTRO is #1 in highest ranked mmorpg games with an 8.3. Games like WOW only have an 8.1

hrm..i see it tied for first with everquest 2 and guild wars, still funny how blizzard still has 4 games in the top 10 after all this time.

Those figures are only for retail store sales, cant use it for anything. Odd how they never even tried to add on online sales, but i guess it would paint a picture the shitbox kiddies wouldnt like.
well i find that funny they don't matter since they have been posted here a few times before when lotro was in the top 10 and lotro fans used it to say how good the game was...funny how that site doesn't matter anymore now that they aren't on the list.

Games come on and off the chart my friend, it was at # 8 the week before, and it might be back at # 1 or #5 or # 3 next week. Myself I am amazed that any MMORPG besides WOW stayed on it for 2 months. As far back as I can remember only WOW has been the only MMORPG on it past the initial release week. That says a hell of a lot of good about the sales right there.

I miss DAoC
It took me about 6 hours of Beta to discover that this game would suck. Got bored very quickly and didn't even bother with it afterwards.
i agree with OP, predicting that an unreleased game will "destroy" one that is already a proven market success really is quite pointless, at least wait until the new game is released and go toe to toe with the champ....
