The reason is simple, the game structure is by far simplistic to what other MMOs offer. The game is built for the casual player and the MMO community started out with hardcore gamers the UOers and EQers, now that MMOs are the cool thing to do, it's broadened out and the hardcore players are in search for what used to be, risk + reward, there is hardly any of that now days.
WoW with no penalties just isn't for the old MMOers.

Reputation Grinding , well not exactly the grinding its more the lack of choices on how you can grind , its allmost allways in raid dungeons .. with little of it in quests & killing mobs ..
4-6 hour raids and rabbits in pvp does not make a good game.
Yeah sometimes PVP does make a good game if that game is a mmorpg if I wanted to do quest all day I would just go and buy a single player game and save my monthly payments.

makes me scratch my head...I admit that I hate PvP (mainly 'cause I always lost) and did not do that many dungeons as I should have...but the idea that WoW has no creativity is JUST PLAIN WRONG....
Trust me, if I had an uber character and I died, only to have all my gear ripped off , that would frustrate me to the point that I would quit in a heatbeat...the lack of death penalty is a plus in my book.
Sure...a lot of younger players play this game but try playing Counter-strike with voice chat on...being pwned by a 12 year old is no fun either...
To me the game has depth, is graphically cool and is just a great MMORPG...but you will always have those folks that want to get to lvl 40 (now 60) as fast as possible and, in doing so, bypass all the subtile and nuanced stuff along the way...MMO grind is probably an unfortunate reality with most on-line games...I doubt there is a game out there that doesn't expect you to "go get "X" and bring it to "Y"... try the 2 week trial and decide for yourself....but trust me...creativity is there 10 fold...
Well when it comes to PVP they supposedly run on a rock paper scissors basis. Rock are the paladins/warriors paper are mages/priests/locks and scissors are rogue/hunter/shaman Druid fit into all three depending on spec. PVE is basicly quests till you get to 40 then 40 to 55 is a grind fest because all the quests make you go from zone to zone to zone. Once you hit 55 you start doing more quests and eventually at 58 you can hit outlands. Then its a quest/grindfest to 70. After that you grind for PVP or PVE or both rewards. All the best weapons/gear come from instances.
Now instances are going to be 5mans some 10 mans 25man and very few 40 man (used to be more but due to lack of raiders they lowered most to 25man). But to get into the Herioc (the only instances worth running really) you must yet again grind out rep. So depends on if you like to grind this game will be for you but if you get tired of grinds then stay in lower levels and PVP like alot do.

I tried the 14 day free trial a few months ago, and was seriously disappointed in the whole thing.
The PvP was absolutely horrible.
Tell me how it's fun to "fight" with an ALREADY activated skill that lasts for 30 minutes... No challenge in that
I did about 10 quests... All of them wanted me to kill a monster numerous times. Better yet (sarcasm) most of the monsters were THE SAME! Wild Boar, Untamed Boar, Young Boar, ...... BOARing !
If WoW wanted to even LOOK like a "good" game, it should at least try and hook people in with something original, rather than finding a new brown robe, or a cape, or gloves that cover your hand more - Why people are still playing that p.o.s. is the REAL question.

Trouble about trying to define "the worst" thing about a game is what one person (like me) considers a weakness, another will call a strength. So in the end, all I can do is speak to what I did not care for about the game.
First off....I played a long time, 1.75 years and leveled up five 60's across 3 servers, 4 on alliance, one on horde, 2 were on PVP, 3 on normal.
I found that I enjoyed leveling up characters. I could do most of the work solo, on my schedule, only teaming up for necessary instances like Zul'Farrak or what have you. I didn't have to grind much (I used to do all the quests, and explore everywhere) and pretty much enjoyed this part of the game.
But once I got to 60, things changed. Suddenly I was running the same 5 or so instances for my "blue set", in several cases running them 5, 10 even 20 times hoping for a shoulder drop or something..... and I started to dislike the repetitiveness of the game.
But I got my blue set, joined a raiding guild or 3, and while it was very fun beating a raid boss for the first time (esp in my first guild when we had to do them w/o the benefit of published strategies, I grew tired of MC, BWL and AQ 40, running them over and over. I'll bet I made at least 50 MC runs in my time in WOW.... (I also lost alot of sleep during this period, staying far too late to take down just one more boss)
Then they started adding in faction grinds, resistance sets, farming for potions and other raid materials....and I felt more and more worn out, and disliking the game more and more.
Finally, they announced the Burning Crusade, and when I took a hard look at it.... I saw more of the same in my future....and decided to pull the plug on it right there.
Its been over 7 months now since I left, and while I had fun when I was there, I've really got no regrets now, I've moved on to other games. (with end-games focused less on Pve and raiding)

I'll try and correct some of the haters and flamers.
Raids don't last 4-6 hours (unless you want them too, my guild raids 3 hours every other evening and were doing just fine) and you dont need 40 ppl, raid cap is now 10-25.
Community is what you make it, haters always x100 the community, its not full of kids, bots and spammers its no different from any other MMO community.
WoW is an arcade MMO, its fun, has just enough challenge to keep you playing but not so much as to having you crying at your keyboard, most WoW haters prefer the EQ and OU games where fun is not in the top five, they like the time sinks and the grinds.. and wont touch WoW just because it is popular and by doing so they some how lose their eliteness.
You cannot max cap in a week unless your an experienced player and grind grind grind 18 hours a day, my first toon from 1-60 took me ~37 days played (888 hours) and took me ~16 days (384 hours) 60-70, this experiencing everything the game has to offer, PvE solo and grouped, PvP, raids, professions and events.
End game is raiding but WoW has the best raiding of any MMO, nothing beats their boss fights, or you can endgame PvP in the areans.
Theres a reason WoW is biggest MMO & highest rated MMO on the planet and why its in the top10 sales charts 2.5 years after its release, if it is as bad as the haters claim how has it achieved this? and no its not advertising, no amount of advertising will save a crap game and hype does not last 2.5 years.

See WoW brought alot of ppl over to MMO's that never played them before. Back when I first started playing if you told ppl you where playing everquest they were like omg your addicted to evercrack. Now everyone is like "o I hear wow is a great game". Also there is a community in wow but its not the same community you find in alot of other games. Most other games you need to group to level. In wow EVERY class EVERY spec can solo 1 - 70 at their pace. I am not a wow hater I still have both my accounts but I am just kinda tired of the same old thing.
The game to me mind you lost the feel of doing something unique. Again all the old world quests you can do 1 to 35 fast then 36 to 55 is the same quests for everyone because they all give the same exp as the 30- 35 quests. Me when I PVE i love quests. I love killing so and so to get his sword and turn it in for a fat reward and exp but when all i get is 1g that i can farm in less then a minute but spent an hour doing that quest that bugs me. See unlike EQ where you spent your whole time grinding wow you start out fast and soon go to gring back to fast back to grind with nothing left but a grind.

In my personal opinion, the worst thing about WoW is not having better incentives to group with people. You are stuck solo grinding most of the time cause people don't want to group unless it's for instances to get loot. There should be really big XP bonuses to grouping, after all it's a multiplayer game.
SOE and SWG to this day have a on going ad campaighn in TV and satalite tv networks world wide, still trying to recover massive losses from NGE.. Id say I see 2-3 Star wars ads per 1 WOW ad on satalite /cable stations.
Which game has 8.5 million subs...and which has 65,000 subs (including station passes to play 9-12 other games with SWG) ?
Nope Advertising will not change the fact if a game does suck. in my own opinion NGE sucks bad.
