Who cares about AoC, its nothing more than a carebear WoW clone with advanced button mashing. Nothing compares to Darkfall because its a full loot sandbox. A company isn't gonna take out a 27 million dollar loan if they don't have a game. Maybe AoC will come out before Darkfall, maybe not.
I guess you don't know the difference between informative and ignorant. Who cares about AoC.? Many people do. A company can take out a ton of money and not deliver on their promises. For all we know Darkfall could launch with less than half of the promised features, along with less than half of those even working as intended. It is a low key developer doing their first mmorpg and promising things not done in previous mmorps. There is a reason people are skeptical.

The fanboi smell is starting to remind me of vanguard.
All kidding aside, you'd think MMOs players would learn to be more skeptical about things like this by now.
From what I've seen of the various mmos on their way, DF has shown the least.
With what just went on with Vanguard, THAT has to give SOMEONE who is reasonable and logical pause.
Let's not get into the fact that this is the DF company's FIRST MMO.
I have to ask the folks looking forward to this game, why they are not at least a little skeptical/worried? I mean seriously, what factual history about the company's ability to make MMOs is giving you all confidence that everything they say is 100% factual?
If it were a company like Blizzard or even the much hated-SONY, I could see. But a FIRST TIME DEVELOPER? Seriously?
If this game did not have the pvp options we are all looking for in a game, would you all be so quick to bite what they are feeding?
Open your minds and think critically people. Put aside you want for a REAL PVP game (I agree its needed in this industry) and look at the facts out there.
There is just no logical way you can compare the state of readiness of AoC, WAR or other games to where DF is. DF is no where near on the same scale.
It is hypocricy if you are ok with a releasedate being changed in a game you support but not ok with a lack of a beta date in a game you don't support. This was about dates not about what game was real or not. Can you at least keep to the subject ?
It comes down to information... I would be OK with DF being pushed back if they had an active beta or Tasos came out with ANY concrete information concerning skills and combat mechanics.
You really just don't get it do you. People are not calling the game vaporware because of missed beta... it is the over all lack of information and misleading comments by the Devs. How is that hypocrisy?
Just because YOU cannot face the fact that DF is missing more then dates on a calendar does not make the people who can hypocrites.
and for the record since many of you fan boys have scoured my posts to proved I have said the game is vaporware... I do not believe the game is vaporware... I believe the game will be crap.
Continue to think that. However the stone cold fact is that MMORPG's are changing. MMO's took a huge step when Wow came out and increased the level of professionality of MMO's. It increased the level of expectations of other gaming companies which were developing MMO's.
However another huge step was taken when TES4: Oblivion came out. Now people are beginning to make the transition toward action MMORPG's instead of target-fire dice rolling RPG's like WoW and WAR.
AoC and DF are taking huge steps in the MMORPG franchise and it's been proven by AoC that it's what people want.
I give games like WoW another year TOPS. After that, there will be another ringer in the game which will absorb much of WoW's already shrinking fanbase.
However, I don't like to proclaim games to be successes before they actually are. All I'm simply doing is stating that the fanbase for MMO's is changing and that people are demanding MMO's that require true, unvarnished skill and that is exactly what Darkfall offers. So, no. Darkfall has not become a success yet and it's possible that it will be crap like you say. However, Darkfall is in the right place, doing the right things at the right time.

I give games like WoW another year TOPS. After that, there will be another ringer in the game which will absorb much of WoW's already shrinking fanbase. LMAO... I love the statement about WoW... I hate WoW but it will be around for a very long time. There is a much larger base of people who think social and raids > PvP. PvP is growing in popularity but I doubt if will ever overtake the raid masses out there at least in the US where the bulk of profit for MMOs comes from. I think it is a naive and wishful statement you made here. Since both NA and Asian subscriptions have grown over the past 6 months... I am wondering where you are getting your "facts" about the shrinking fan base?

DF has the right ideas, but everything else is incorrect. It is in the wrong place (untested start up company without a publisher). It is doing the wrong things (No QA department, No publisher, No PR). It is not the right time (FFA PvP with full loot rules is a small niche market). If this was a new genre they might have a chance... Unfortunately this is an established genre and a very contested subscriber pool. Aventurine has shown us nothing that would indicate they have the ability to make it in this highly competitive field.

Originally posted by atziluth Alright fair enough... just point out in the movie where it showed player health, any skills, combat mechanics, player UI, or item descriptions. Just show me that and I will concede they have release a game play movie. Otherwise all they released was a staged model interaction in a virtual environment. You see it all the time... you know the movies in pre pre alpha where they are working on model animations.
Leaked video from 2005 (the Youtube link has the date wrong); music added in after the fact. Enjoy. In it, you can see player health/stamina/mana and the basic outline of the interface. Values aren't changing because they're all set super-high for testing purposes, but it would appear to fit your bill, would it not?
Oh, and there are also screenshots from 2003 and 2007 showing off the interface. Look through the IGN RPGVault interviews for the 2003 shots and the Visuals catalogue on the Darkfall website for the 2007 one.

Text does not change, health and mana do not change, no indication of skills used by interface image... this is not a working interface. No values displayed, nothing that would indicate the shown "interface" is anything other then a static border on the screen. Again please show me mechanics... I can photoshop a red line on any of the images and call it a health bar... Your taking static visuals and trying to pass them off as an interface... that does not fly. Oh, and there are also screenshots from 2003 and 2007 showing off the interface. Look through the IGN RPGVault interviews for the 2003 shots and the Visuals catalogue on the Darkfall website for the 2007 one. Can't find the 2003 shots you mentioned, but the image on the DF site is not a user interface. In fact it only strengthens my argument because they released a picture of a development interface. You can see where the Dev can pick any item skin he wants and use any FX he wants. This is all about visual again not mechanics. If you would dig up these 2003 images I would love to see them.

I'm okay with the pushed back release date because it's better to have a polished game than one that is full of bugs. Vanguard anyone? What is the OP trying to say anyway? That forum trolls keeps trolling?
It is the third time AoC has changed their release date. Last time they did it because of DirectX 10. This time they did it because the controls were too difficult to learn. And the trolls is ok with this. But if the developer of another game keep a low profile and has canceled a clan beta the vapor cries are loud and clear. That smells like two standards, one for the game they like and one for the games they don't.

Aye, one dev hasn't broken any promises other than one clan beta, the other one has delayed their game 4 times since the initial promised releasedate in 2006. Now we will not see it until 2008.

You can call it a double standard if you want... that does not make it true. AoC has released a ton of content where DF has released what 1 video every 3 months? Spin it any way you like . Delaying a game by 6 months is not as bad as delaying a game by 5 years and counting.
For God's sake stop doing inline quote-responses, it makes a mess of replies
Ahem.
One, you can see the scrolling text at the bottom, and if you look carefully you can see that those are damage messages. Two, if you look at the first "proper" gameplay video release, you will see HP bars pop up on players as the targeting recticle goes over them, and you can even see said health bars go down when people get whacked with a weapon.
As for the old IGN screenies, I can only assume you didn't look very hard because I found them by doing a quick trip to RPGVault, searching for Darkfall, clicking on "Previews", and scrolling down through the old DF Peeks of the Week until I found the entry talking about the game interface.

No, I was talking about AoC. Aventurine has published no releasedate afaik. And that is kinda my point. Personally I perfer being kept in the dark than being misinformed. There are some things worth waiting for in life, but entertainment products ain't any of them
I am here to support sandbox/skilled based games because I belive freedom is the next evolution of MMO

Hi Atz, nice seeing you active and kicking a**, even though it is my own
We have been over this before. Actually AoC should be back in Alpha by now and not Beta as they are reworking their controls. As we have discussed before there is no reason to beta an unfinished product. AoC is unfinished now and will remain so until the control issues are resolved. Afaik EU summer vacations in in august but I agree with you that the summer beta is probably bust. And so what ? No promises has been broken and that says something about the integrity of the devs. And as long as cash hasn't changed hands, there is no reason to complain about the situation either. Unless you are an investor that is

You want an educated guess ?
If they want to publish the game themselves;
To hire the right people, buying the servers, setting them up, getting the game to run on the server, and sorting through 200k of betarequests, starting today I would think 4-5 months.
-> beginning of february 2008

all I need is basic gear, skill based progression, handful of skills, FFA, and some prebuilt towns to fight for. half those features on the list I think they can cut. like mobs, cut. quests, cut. mounts, cut.
Both of you have contradicted your self in your arguements but I'm not going to take my time to bring them up. I'm looking forward to both but I have and am keeping low expectations for both. Darkfall has bad marketing so far and for a lot of people it is disheartening not to see the fruition of a game. I high doubt Darkfall will have all the features talked about and if they do try to have all those features it will fail. There is indeed a difference between the two but i will reserve total judgement when they both come out.

I don't think you should hold promises against developers. It is in the nature of projects that the more you know about something the less you can do about it because knowledge is gathered over time and time is limited. As for DF, we don't know what features "is in there". You may call it bad marketing but please remember that marketing is in the realm of publishing not developing. They have even admitted as such. But they have such faith in their product that they believe that their product will speak for itself when it comes out. Bad marketing, perhaps, but as long as it is their time and their investors that will be affected by this desertion and not you. I say it is their call to make and not yours.
And as I have stated, if they have half of the features promised, I will still support this game. It is too few skillbased sandboxgames out there.

Changing your release date by 6 months is one thing. Changing your release date by 5 years and counting is quite another. You don't see the difference ?

Spin it any way you like . Delaying a game by 6 months is not as bad as delaying a game by 5 years and counting.
Anyways, enjoy.

I knew that you were talking about Age of Conan, I was just messing with you.
When do you think that you will have a chance to enter the Darkfall beta?
One game has not.
You can call it a double standard if you want... that does not make it true. AoC has released a ton of content where DF has released what 1 video every 3 months? I have asked repeatedly for the fan boys here to post detailed skill descriptions or item descriptions... so far none of you can. Aventurine has released nothing concrete except a few basic videos of models and scenery. AoC is in beta... DF was suppose to be in beta this summer... the Devs while not setting an exact date hinted heavily. Still nothing. No there is a clear contrast between these two games. DF will be released but it is hard to argue what state the game is in.
Hi Atz, nice seeing you active and kicking a**, even though it is my ownWe have been over this before.

Chicks messing with my mind ? Nothing new there
You want an educated guess ?
If they want to publish the game themselves;
To hire the right people, buying the servers, setting them up, getting the game to run on the server, and sorting through 200k of betarequests, starting today I would think 4-5 months.
-> beginning of february 2008

yep but you know they will have a billion explanations people hate to be proven wrong
There is a reason people are skeptical.
all I need is basic gear, skill based progression, handful of skills, FFA, and some prebuilt towns to fight for. half those features on the list I think they can cut. like mobs, cut. quests, cut. mounts, cut.Both of you have contradicted your self in your arguements but I'm not going to take my time to bring them up. I'm looking forward to both but I have and am keeping low expectations for both. Darkfall has bad marketing so far and for a lot of people it is disheartening not to see the fruition of a game. I high doubt Darkfall will have all the features talked about and if they do try to have all those features it will fail. There is indeed a difference between the two but i will reserve total judgement when they both come out.
and I WILL NOT BE PREORDERING DARKFALL
And as I have stated, if they have half of the features promised, I will still support this game. It is too few skillbased sandboxgames out there.

As a troll I'd say this is disappointing because the earlier ppl play this fault game the faster they give up on it and start looking for another one that is better.
