Damn. It looks like WOW that plays worse than WOW.

    Disapointing

WAR is not WoW, the racial types are similar but then they are generic fantasy races and all from the warhammer IP that’s been around for over 2 decades. If people can’t see the differences then obviously they haven’t played WoW PvP or raided endgame and have no idea what warhammer is about.

As for ‘next gen’ the Warhammer team has said that WAR is an evolved product rather than an innovative one, features that are tried and tested and been improved on with a couple of things that are new.

The tome of knowledge seems like a great example of evolving old ideas, games have had kill collectors before (EQ2) and granted badges for visiting places or doing certain tasks (SWG), but not all in the same game, given good rewards for the achievements or developed the story through them. The quest system of killing things before obtaining a task and getting credit for those prior kills also seems like a great evolutionary step. Also the tactics system which appears to be comparable to wow’s talents are changeable prior to battle that means everyone can have distinctive builds depending on the role they want to play without being limited to a certain ‘spec’ which often makes you effective in PvE or PvP but not both.

As far as new ideas the PQ system looks amazing, I cant wait to be able to just go into one and take part in something epic without having to go lfg before hand, if I get the same feeling I do when completing a dungeon in WoW for the first time then I think this feature will probably be one of the best parts of levelling in WAR. The crating system has yet to be revealed and this is another feature that has been touted as innovative rather than evolutionary, guess we have to wait and see.

Fact is its not out yet and people cant really judge until they get a chance to play for more than a couple of hours or read reviews at release. IMO its shaping up well and there’s still 6 months to go.

Playing it at the convention is what actually made me turn coat and decide I will play this game along with AoC. Maybe it wasn't fun for him, but I doubt that as most people who played it stayed and talked about it long after hour game time was up. Same things with AoC, the only complaints I could think of for either game is that on the connections at the conventions lag can sometimes be a pain.

Not sure on how you can say based on that video how this is not next gen seeing as how there is absolutely nothing in it.

There are plenty of ideas that have not been done in any other games that they are aiming for. Go to their main website if you want to know about it. I'm not their viral marketer. I don't really care if you will be convinced after that, as of now I assume you're just a troll.

What in the world is everyone complaining about? I went to that link and was just blown off my feet. That is PRE-ALPHA footage, and even that is several steps above WoWs graphics.

I notice people say its just like WoW, I am going to straight out say I don't believe you in the spirit that most of you say it. They are both fantasy online games, with a similar but still distinctly different art style, and a theme of dark humor. Thats it. The quest and PvP systems are wildly different between WoW and WAR, with WARs being vastly superior IMO. WAR is designed around PvP while WoW is based around PVE.

So, how is it *exactly* that WAR was playing like WoW for some of you? I don't even see how thats possible.

You people are so hilarious, and its also funny that you won't listen to anyone's "bad" opinion on the game.  Even if he is just trolling and never played it, its completely true.  Its pathetic how much of a WoW clone this game is.  You can either believe me or not, I have had plenty of time to play this and its nothing all this hype makes it up to be.

I played it at the convention as well. And I do not think it is as much of a "clone" as you are making it out to be. Would you like to tell me how all of the animations are cloned? Just tell me the names of 10 abilities in WAR and 10 abilities in WoW that are exactly the same.

It's definately not a clone.  Technically Warcraft is a spin-off of Warhammer... with that said, and all that I have seen with WAR, I have the same emotion as I did with WoW. Too cartoony for me, and basic...  I prefer a little more realism and immersiveness.  With that said WAR should blow the socks off of WoW however, since they are the originators of the whole genre.

'Next Gen' is quickly becoming sonomous with 'Vaporware' like Vanguard is/was.

I think WAR is more about subtle tweaks and improvements to a proven 'platform' so to speak.

I gather from seeing the game offerings continually being spewed forth that there are the more realistic graphic MMO's (DAoC, EQ, EQ2, VSOH, etc.) and the more stylized (for lack of a better term) MMO's (D&D, WoW, L2, GW, FFXI). I'd be curious to see a true poll on what most people prefer. Some ppl find the realistic MMO's essentially 'too realistic' such that they inhibit 'suspension of disbelief' , don't allow for 'fantastic enough of characters and equipment' or come across 'too serious for my gametime' type of thing. The other side sees the stylized games as cartoony, childish, cheap, etc. I think some of us play the MMO's differently. Some want to enjoy the MMO and almost "adventure" with their character they spend so much time developing while others almost want to 'become' the character or somehow see themselves 'as' the character in 'another world' or view the character as a true extension of themselves such that they almost feel they also exist in another 'reality'.
