SWG had a "bubble" of returning subs with all the trials and CH6.

My sources tell me it's fallen back to it's historic NGE collapse curve since (because they got people back, then decided to spend 6 months between publishes).

They are advertising for developers, yes.  But like everything SOE has it's hands on, you have to pay close attention to the details...  SOE is hiring Devs.  DUH, they always have been (mainly because they can't keep them).  There is NO assurance that these Devs would be SWG Devs.  Not in the least.

If SWG surged so much and made so much money as a result, why is the gap between CH6 and 7 wider by MONTHS than any publish gap in game history?  That is NOT a healthy sign.

Prior to CH6, SWG's sub trend was on a curve towards theoretical ZERO happening in early 2008 (this is why development cycles have increased in length since 2006).  The CH6 surge just bumped that back a couple months.  And given that it was based on smoke and mirrors with vet trials, etc, I wonder if they actually made any money off it at all.

The devs know the gap between 6 and 7 is large, thats why they released the revamped Imperial themepark seperate from the main chapter publish. Also they announced that chapter 8 would be live before the end of the year. New content drives subs, I am sure those that have taken a break will be back like they always are.

I'll also expect my 4th 21-day trial by the end of the year.

It would be on par with the 3 of had since Dec. '06 to Sept '07 so far.

If that does pan out that would be 84 days out of 365 that I've not had to pay for.

It certainly pays to not have a subscription.

    Taken from the Launchpad note:

"Are you a talented programmer? SOE is hiring!

Are you a talented and experienced C++ programmer looking to join one of the best companies in the game industry? SOE is looking for you! Game Systems Programmers are charged with working closely with the design team to design and implement key game systems in Star Wars Galaxies. As a Game Systems Programmer, you will be creating and maintaining combat, character progression, and other key game systems in a massive virtual world."

Seems to be quite clear to me that it's for SWG ;)

The "gap" between publishes is an artifical thing really.  If we were to use the old publish naming scheme, Chapter 6.8 (the major bug bash with a bunch of new things as well) would have been considered Chapter 7.  Chapter 6.12 (Imp Themepark) would have been considered Chapter 8.  To say that nothing has been done since Chapter 6 went out is pure spin.

What is the current gap between game expansions for SWG?

Last expansion SWG had was Trials of Obi-Wan at the end of October 2005.  There was going to be one last year but they cancelled it to focus on free content instead and to fix up the issues in the game (such as Expertise, bugs, etc).  It sounds like they want to introduce content on all the current planets before they release any more expansions, which probably should have done before RoTW came out since many of the planets have lacked content for some time now.

Chapter 7 is sounding like it will be alot like an expansion though.  It's going to inculde 5 new highend instances (ToOW introduced 6), including quests leading up to the actual instances.  There will also be a new Collections system which involves a bunch of different ways to get new rewards ranging from simply collecting certain items and getting the reward straight away or collecting a bunch of stuff then unlocking a quest series to get the reward.

if they had wanted to do so, they could have marketed Ch7 as an expansion (imo) but they chose to release it as free content... whats better? Expansion-like free content or an expansion for which you have to pay?

Oh I'm not complaining :P  Their overall conclusion is right, the planets we currently have really need to be filled out before they worry about adding on new expansions again.

Personally, it amazes me to hear that peeps are bored in game.  I still have quests from all expansions and a craptonload from the initial game I'm sure.  Of coarse....I do pvp or BH 95% of the time

Better start learning to like Space, it's going to be the focus of Chapter 8 :P

I've done most of the quests but not all of them have been done on a single character.  I still need to do some badge whoring though, still missing a good number of them even after 4 years...

The grind isn't that bad, just group up with some of your hippy friends and head off to Kessel.  Get them to disable a few Gunboats for you to finish off and you'll get I think around 15k-20k XP for each you kill.  If you're truly brave you could go to Deep Space where there's alot more to find but you have the risk of PvP (/tell me the day you go up :P )

Oh I'm not complaining :P  Their overall conclusion is right, the planets we currently have really need to be filled out before they worry about adding on new expansions again.

yep i was reinforcing your point. . . there is so much content out there - but like I tell everyone, you gotta find it! Its not spoonfed. . .

Personally, it amazes me to hear that peeps are bored in game.  I still have quests from all expansions and a craptonload from the initial game I'm sure.  Of coarse....I do pvp or BH 95% of the time

i'm just now getting into space, ffs. (and i hate it) - I havent yet completed the legacy quest, azure cabal, rebel themepark. its all what you make of it...

Better start learning to like Space, it's going to be the focus of Chapter 8 :P

I've done most of the quests but not all of them have been done on a single character.  I still need to do some badge whoring though, still missing a good number of them even after 4 years...

i'm not bad at space... jsut the grind is slow

The grind isn't that bad, just group up with some of your hippy friends and head off to Kessel.  Get them to disable a few Gunboats for you to finish off and you'll get I think around 15k-20k XP for each you kill.  If you're truly brave you could go to Deep Space where there's alot more to find but you have the risk of PvP (/tell me the day you go up :P )

    cool. sounds like cheating :)

You know how those impies are.....

Im an ex-SWG player, had a pre-CU jedi and plyed it untill NGE came live than i canceled 2 accounts. Recently i have bought station access because im playing EQ2 and wanted to take a look again and see how SWG is ging and maybe meet some old friends again. I was happy i could  find some friends still playing, see my old town, meet some guild mates, that was very cool but that was all the fun. Unfortunately, at least for me, its impossible to play such a crap. I really hate NGE and what the game has become after it. Besides, servers are still quite empty, places that used to be very populated are all empty. I used to love this game and really anted to play again but ... no way with NGE. Gonna still pay for station access for a while so i can play a bit of SoH too but not really worth it.
