I bought EQ2. I played around on that tutorial island and this game looks really awesome. But.....I went to one of the main cities on 3 differant servers and they were all empty. I think I saw maybe one person. The trade channel was empty. This isn't just one server, I tried on 3 differant servers and they were all empty. So I'm probably gonna cancel my account. Shame though, this game seemed so much better then WoW. So is EQ2 pretty much dead?
Comments
not that i am aware of. Last night there were 5 heavy load servers. I play on Nektulos, a medium population server...Neriak was packed (i actually lagged out in the crafting house "Down Under" in Neriak)
Well anyone have the subscription numbers for EQ2?
whoah, might want to re-word your topic before the fanbois see it,theyll rip you apart.
Best thing to do is log on a few servers and use the /who function for different level ranges eg 1-10 in a few of the starter zones, then perhaps player range 20-30 and so on. Do the same thing with the highest level zones to get a feel of what the endgame is like.Do this at random times of the day and write down the numbers for each. After a few days it should give you a general idea of what the pops like on that particular server and whether its worth playing there.
Ive noticed most servers seem to be medium load generally,so maybe youre just in parts that are currently unpopular or everyones out in the wilderness.
SOE
SOE
.....I meant any available to the public?
Estimates place EQ2 at approximately 182k subs as of March '07.
One thing you have to keep in mind is that EQ2 is absolutely massive as a world, and in addition to that; many players are at the level cap by now, so the higher level areas are probably populated.
Try playing on a medium or heavy load server, as suggested earlier.
SOE
.....I meant any available to the public?
None,SOE avoids putting out sub numbers (hint hint)
Last time I checked (couple months ago), EQ2 has plenty of people. I doubt it has changed since.
I recently joined the EQ2 crowd. If you noticed while you were on the tutorial island, it was decently populated. I think its more of the fact that its such a big world and most of the players are playing the higher content. It doesn't really matter to me in the long run though, I am just using EQ2 as a placeholder until PotBS.
EQ2 has been open for years. The world is absolutely humongous and the level cap is currently at 70 soon to be increased to 80.
Most people are playing higher level, though there are plenty of people playing low level. I just rerolled a monk and am currently level 10. I noticed that it was quiet last night and the night before but thats usually not the case.
I'd also like to remind you that in some places (In Canada its Thanksgiving for example) this weekend is a holiday so they are with their family.
I played on Antonia Bayle up until recently and for the most part there wasn't many people in the main cities. The higher in lvl area you go the more people you will see. This game is massive, so expecting everyone to be in one zone is not reasonable. Only reason I would be in town would be to sell/buy something or if I was going to craft.

First this...
Heck even wow servers with queues seems empty besides the main cities.
Then this...
You impliciating that your are making things up in your first post. Don't see why you would need numbers when YOU know it is empty?
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
Agreed,,.I am new for about a month (going into second month now...)..It really boils down to the timezone you log in, and the specific servers selected and finally the area you play in.
Antonia Bayle is a huge server, lots of people, lots of guilds...but also a lot of high levels..but, I never fail to see someone. Always people running around...
As someone else mentioned previously, your thread looks to be more of a troll than a question..but, that also is what is unique about this game and the community compared to the others...no need to attack back. We will accept your post, and tell you how it is...
The game has seen many new people coming in who are bored with their old games...(WoW, LOTRO, etc..)...Why? The game is more involved, more detailed, with more to do, and more area's to play in..and due to it's solo friendly nature, a lot of people will be playing on their own. Also, the starting zones are so varied, that some have more populations (Greater Faydark has more people than Qeynos for example)
No...I think your basing your criteria on a visual look see, and that is the mistake...this game is so huge compared to the others, with varying landmasses, tons of instanced dungeons...no one hangs around town too much as we have better things to do...(or we are hiding away crafting, or decorating our homes...etc..)
Join a guild...then you will see how the population is..
Cheers!
Almost forgot...
For a dead game...it is interesting that the fourth expansion is now coming out as well...
That is 4 expansions in the same amount of time it took Blizzard to put together one...
man, go to a different server
Well, to give a contrasting viewpoint here:
An expansion or the number of expansions isn't really a good way to tell how a game is doing. I know EQ2 is doing more than "just fine", so don't take this the wrong way...
...but try talking to the people that bought the AC2 expansion pack about said packs being an indicator of a game's good health.
I was there when the whole AC2 Expansion thing happened. I played AC2 for over a year, then updates were reduced from monthly to bi-monthly. This was to allow dev time to work on the expansion. The expansion came out and it was a flop. It was poorly promoted/advertised and shortly after they announced AC2 would be no more. And I hit the cancel button on AC2 and decided not to purchase LotRO which I had been waiting for since it was Middle Earth Online. Sadly they continued to sell the expansion after the shutting down of the servers had been anounced. AC2 was never doing "just fine" having played both EQ2 recently (1 week ago) and AC2 for a year up till it was announced it was to close down. I can tell you there is no comparison at all. AC2 had 600 people at prime time on two servers. EQ2 has 22 servers or so and I'm sure they get at least 600 at prime time at least.

Well, you kind of missed the point.
My point was that judging a game's health solely on it's current expansion pack status and quantity isn't the most wise way of going about things. That's all. You analyzed my statement a bit too deeply.
I never said AC2 was doing "just fine" at that time either, that was mostly said to get the point across that I wasn't trying to seriously compare EQ2's success to AC2's failure.

But, you also discussing one expansion...vs...FOUR...AC2 is the worst example you could have used...
If EQ2 was doing so badly, would they be ready to release a fourth expansion? Why do that if they were dying? This is not your first expansion in hopes it will bring in more players...it is an expansion to continue growing players...there is a HUGE difference..
We can judge EQ2's health on this latest expansion also due to the fact that with expansion 3 (The FAE), Sony saw growth due to it's popularity...so, yes, we can gauge health here..
Cheers!
This sounds like a troll post by the OP.
The game is fine and healthy. Plenty of people are playing.
THanks for the feedback, but you don't bring anything to the table

*sigh*
The statement wasn't even directed really at EQ2, it was mostly a general statement. And, yes, you can have plenty of expansions made with a declining player base, since the first one may not necessarily bring in the target amount of players.
UO after EA's takeover, for example. Then there's the late expansions for the original EQ.
The point I was trying to make was that a statement, taken by itself, that a game with 4 expansions must be doing just fine, is a bit misleading. That's all. Everyone is over-thinking my comment and taking it as a jab at the game. It wasn't. I was just pointing out a bit of interesting logic, that when taken by itself, can be quite misleading.
I simply used AC2 as an example because it was the most blatant and well-known failure of an expansion pack launch released.
"This sounds like a troll post by the OP."
Yup, asking a question=troll post
"The game is fine and empty"
Nice typo
" Plenty of people are playing"
If you actually read what I wrote, you would see that I went to 3 differant servers and the cities were empty. That's why I asked if there are people playing.
"THanks for the feedback, but you don't bring anything to the table"
Are you this retarded? Since when is a question feedback? since when is a question supposed to bring something to the "table"?
You're the troll here.
[I have not posted in such a long time, I notice the interface is different.]
(1) EQ 2 is alive and well.
(a) EQ 2 is more populated, on my server, than it is on my WoW server. [Yes. I play WoW, EQ 2, et. al.]
Shame though, this game seemed so much better then WoW.
(2) EQ 2 has more content, features, classes, and I would say "fun" than WoW.
(a) If you play, I am confident you will also include "community," inter alia, that are better in EQ 2.
I tried on 3 differant servers
(3) Did you try Antonia Bayle or Nagafen?
(a) I play on Antionia Bayle, and I assure you the community is more alive and fresh and new than any current WoW servers. [To my knowledge WoW has not released a new server since TBC, circa 6 months ago. However, EQ 2's Antonia Bayle feels fresh and new because of the masses of new players joining, many from WoW.]
