So for those who seemed to have just got thru the 60 - 70 grind how are you facing the now looming 70 - 80 grind?
Just finished Kara for about everyne here, working on SSC and Temple. Guild still tryign to get it together after the drop from 40 man instances and huge guilds to 10 - 25 man guild where elietest guild members got to go to Kara and you did not.
Honestly, the termoil in so many guild cause breakups, newer smaller guilds, guilds failing. What will happen if the 40 man is the new norm again? What about the SSC / Temple loot that will be replaced by greens when you hit level 72?
For me, it has put a horrible taste in my mouth. When work myself to death killing in PvE and raiding every night only to find that my Epics are again garbage?
Post what you think!

Neither. A new game coming out that is better than WoW would hurt it. I don't know of any definitive WoW-killer games out there but a couple might.
A new expansion will only help them. In MMORPG-land too much is never enough.
The only thing that can kill WoW is time. This expansion will quite possibly do a decent dent to the population. The next one after won't though. It's building an immunity, first one was like a bag of woodships upside the head to the population, lots of people quit, this one will be a bag of feathers, and all the ones after it will be nothing at all, unless they stray from the formula.
You missed the most likely answer: Neither.
I dont think wow will ever die, if eq has been up for this long then wow should age as well, lol swg is still slugging along, i do believe wow has a long shelf life of say uranium.
playing eq2 and two worlds
This is what happends when you play teh Pawth Loot game. Stop caring about loot and if you no longer enjoy this game, quitt. Items is really nothing of importance in this game for me, i play really casual now but at release i was in top guild and did it, saw it got tierd of it since its totally pointless.
Honestly, I did not find leveling to 70 with any of my two characters to feel like "grinding". I just went through and experienced the content and in the process leveled - Having one character horde and another alliance helped change the pace for me and allowed me to select which zones I wanted to go through.
I'm actually looking forward to the expansion because...well, it is new content for me to play through. I don't raid, I'm a casual player - by many definitions - and I am just now rounding out some of my reputations (yes, those are grinds, for the most part).
While I enjoy many aspects of the game, and dislike some others, I don't feel that leveling in WoW is grinding at all - And once the new leveling changes go into effect for 1-60 in patch 2.3, it will become 50% quicker than it is today.
Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.
Lao-Tze
I dunno if it will be %50 quicker, but it will add a bit of acceleration. This is a nice change to a game that realizes new player burn out happens faster when all of the friends who brought them to the game are 4 months ahead of them leveling-wise, and 1 year ahead of them gear-wise. Yes, burnout does happen much faster when you are in a guild with high level friends, who are much to busy raiding/pvp/etc to help speed up the process, because you really can't play with them until you are at their level.
So, once again, Blizzard aknowledges an impass with expanding without alienating the entire population. Wish SWG got this when they smacked down a few week grind to an unpalatable pain in the ass.
Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.
Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside
Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.
If you're guild is STILL trying to adjust to Kara then your guild sucks ....sucks hardcore.
There were a lot of guild break ups at the start of BC but not anymore because all those earlier break ups were because of the slackers that could tag along to a 40 man raid and do nothing and still get loot from it.
Now, a lot of small guilds are thriving because of the focus on smaller raid sizes. You can be a top tier raid guild with only 30 core members. Theres less dead weight members and less drama.
Um, yeah, just how many Tier 3 sets were replaced by level 62 greens? I'll give you a hint: none.
Heard a lot of this "the sky is falling" crap when BC came out too. And all the people quitting because of it ended up gaining WoW 2 million subscribers. So, please, quit.
But on WoW.. It needs to die... it wont... but it needs to..
Not trying to start any arguements....Just an opinion
new expac breaths fresh life into the game imo. I was a tier 2-3 geared char before burnign cursade and loved the xpac, big frigging deal your gear isnt great at the new lvl cap but you still level like a champ and advancing ur char in other ways not just gear is a huge plus in my eyes. I am currently a gladiator char sitting 3rd in 5v5 my battlegroup about to get glad again for season 2 and I cant wait for the xpac. New skills new zones new lvls to gain new loot to get etc breaths huge life back into a game that I l do love. I dont really raid anymore in burning I did enough raiding in pre burning I cant stand instanced raids they require to much effort and ur constantly held back by some newbs regardless of how well you play I only PvP .
I dont get the "faster levling thing". why add levels and make it faster to level? won't it just end up taking the same amount of time anyway?
No expansion pack can "Kill" a game unless you consider like things such as Star Wars Galaxies' "NGE" expansion material. Then in that case, they can.
The question is more, can the new expansion keep World of Warcraft afloat?
We've seen a steady decline in WoW subscription numbers, and thats not to say its on a downward spiral to hell where it'll parish and never come back. No no, its just that WoW is no longer as popular as it was in its Hay day a few years ago. This happens with all MMOs and WoW in its' own is... medicre. Having come about at the right time in the right place. Thus its popularity. I'm not saying its a bad game, not at all. But i'm not saying its great either. There comes a time when the public moves on and a game must either adapt or forfeit. We'll see what WoW does.
As for the original topic at hand, the expansion pack? I don't think will "Kill" World of Warcraft, but it definitely won't keep it afloat like the "holy grail". WoW seems to be near the end of its rope to me, not saying its going to die tomorrow.. but thats its 15 minutes of fame are over and it will slowly begin shifting to the back burner while new and exciting MMOs continue to splatter the market with their mindless repetitions. Blizzard's next MMO be it Starcraft or who knows what else will no doubt blow the market off of its feet just like WoW did.. but as for WoW itself? The expansion is too little, too late. Its on a slow decline. Enjoy the game, play it up. It'll be around for a long while.. don't worry.. but it certainly isn't the god-send MMO everyone made it out to be back in the day. It never was. It was just here at the right time and in the right place.

I lvled to 70 then just went egh and left. it wasnt that great it was hard becuase most of the raid guilds on the server were pass kara so i couldnt catch up. perosnaly i think both WAR and AoC would knock off good chunk of wow subs. also cant remember the site but it listed the wow sub as this 6mil asia 2.5 NA and 500k euro so really its not as big in NA as people make it out to be. just the easiest(not gameplay wise i know there are hard parts) for people to learn to play.
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.
If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms

In regards to your phat epix getting pretty much useless in the next expansion:
Dude, it's a game. Aren't you playing it cause it's fun and not to prance around in purple pixels?
I mean, if you're not having fun playing all these instances and getting the loot, then why are you playing it?
And I don't think the next expansion will kill WoW. That makes no sence. I do however think that the player base will scatter a little once Warhammer Online and Age of Conan are released. The only thing in my eyes that completly can kill WoW would be Blizzard releasing another MMO. Which will not happen as long as they're making billion of dollars each year on WoW.

Keep old players entertained, tempt new players to join and ex-players to come back.
I read from a Blizzard poster that the increase would be around 15%.
Why do people keep asking if WoW is gonna die? People still play Diablo. Warcraft 3 is still one of the most played RTS games out there.
New content in all MMOs can do things to guilds, especially the first and second expansions, because those are the expansions that change the game the most, and guilds that have gotten comfortably numb can't handle all the new shit.
But guild breakups aren't the end of the world. You join new a guild and make new friends.
If anyone knows how to make their games survive, it's Blizzard.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
This is so much true. Problem is WoW is build that way and therefore majority of the players are moaning about they lose their farmed gear, because they don't consider getting the gear fun, only the fact they can show off their purples.
REALITY CHECK
With a population of reaching nearly 9 million how is it going to die? I think you're forgetting that most of that population is Asian grinders. Do you think they're crying about having to go from 70-80? They'll be the first ones there and the first ones to sell "teh uba l00tz" for RL cash. Population will probably go up even. The only thing that will hurt WoW is time and other games. It will be around for a long, long time though. I mean it will be there until blizzard wants to pull the plug. And I think we'll see server mergers way before the game is about to get shut down. Once they have 1 English server and 3 Asian servers. Then start talking doomsday. Until then WoW is going to be a part of the MMORPG genre no matter how much people hate to love this game.
Just for the record yes, WoW left a bad taste in my mouth. I feel like I'm going to puke pastels every time someone shows me screen shots of their ubah character. But fact is fact, games don't just go poof after being #1 in population.

But don't you see!? WoW needs to be here, FOREVAH!! So that all the MMO newbs like myself can play it and finish the damn MMO tutorial and start wanting more and more....
After playing WoW I want more PVP, wich I will get in the new expansion, so that's a plus. I want more crafting, well, I guess crafting will be the same, but hey, who knows what new stuff will we be able to make, in the next patch engenieers are geting to make a flying mount
I want more other stuff too, but untill I see some realy inovative games I don't see a reason to quit WoW.
It's pretty fun to see you didnt really need to see innovative game before you decided to start playing WoW. Now it's your priority.
REALITY CHECK
That's what I meant by completing the MMO tutorial (WoW), now I'm ready for a real game.

The real games are out there already. The future is not bright until maybe Darkfall will come out.

I know, I know and I tryed many of them, but all besides EVE realy do look ugly and choppy. I'm far from beeing a graphic whore, hell, I realy like all of the GTA games but I can't take half life 1 now and play it like something new and fun, it's still ugly and it hurts my eyes, similar to some older MMORPGs, they might have some deeper and more chalenging systems, but not enough to actualy justify the uglyness and lack of polish compared to WoW.
To drag me away from WoW, but without any real inovation, a game would have to be as polished as WoW and set in a SF setting.
