Well, if the majority of the fans in these threads are any indication, the game could be gaming nirvana, but the community is going to be the very nadir of godawful.
Well, first let me say this gives a LOT of credence to the idea of KOTOR vs. many other ideas, including my own...that said though, I did think the continued use of "Interactive Entertainment Product" over and over was really strange to me, but appears this may be a common industry term for video game development.
All of this said though, I still don't get why they'd give this much away and not just state it's the MMO...really bizarre, at least IMO. That combined with some of the other statements makes me think they've got something funky planned, like console+PC MMO or something strange like that, as opposed to traditional MMO, something definitely different.

Let's not forget LucasArts also has the action adventure title Force Unleashed in the oven : http://www.forceunleashed.net/ < Good site to learn more about it.
For this reason I dout they would make another single player star wars adventure game so soon. Then again I could be wrong. Either way I'm happy these two are collaborating again and I'm sure that BioWare will continue to develop some quality games.
Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.

because swg is still online
Although I'd agree that may slow them down on saying it's a STAR WARS MMO, it shouldn't affect them stating it's an MMO in general though. Like I said, it's just strange the way it's being described as so out of the box and revolutionary and all. I'm not even suggesting that it has anything to do with the IP, which I think is most likely KOTOR at this point, but that the MMO itself or game itself is going to be really out there conceptually...and I think that COULD be great.
p.s. Deac, I think that playable build thing was a joke during the interview btw, at least how I read it.

I've kind of thought this for a while now.
Regardless of the game's IP, I've always figured that a big reason for all the secrecy regarding the title is that BioWare is trying something truly different, and do not want to risk getting ripped off by current MMOs in development.

GS: OK, OK, I get it.
GZ: I can say one thing: It looks awesome! [Laughs.] We can say a second thing, too: It's really fun to play. We're already playing it. We were playing it just last week.
Bioware is the best with the lucasarts content of SWG. Yeessssssssssssss!
OK. I can think slightly more clearly now.
As I have said, when I first started to play SWG, I thought the game must have seemed incredibly advanced not because of graphics but because of features. The diversity. The class customization. The vast world and feel of it. Customization with homes. Factories. Player run cities. Player run bars. Awesome features, great world feel. Great gameplay. Content was varied, many options.
I hope they take some of the great things such as customization, world feel and depth and implement them in this one with enhancements, innovations, and breakthrough concepts.

I have to agree with D here....I don't think he was making a joke. I think he gave a giggle because the game was alreay in playable form when most MMORPGs are still in development. As I understand it, the HERO ENGINE cuts years off development time.
Face it Vin....you are going to have to understand that a KOTOR mmorpg is in the works. NO MATTER how bad you don't want it.

Dude...Bioware's working on a freaking SONIC THE HEDGEHOG RPG.
Enough with the "Bioware is far too cool and edgy to do Harry Potter" crap already.
And since you and I have no idea when they actually decided to do the MMO, not just start working on it, the exact dates are nothing but guesswork.
the whole deal is nothing but guess work thats why im waiting till bioware confirms whatever it is they are doing. But ill tell you what i would play a sonic hte hedgehog mmo if they could pull it off.
OH, don't get me wrong Shanks, I've never stated that I have anything more than a theory, that I've backed up with some logic and facts.
Sadly, KOTOR as an MMO stops at the "theory" part.
The facts weigh against it, particularly after the EA buyout of Bioware, and the only thing all this hype is based on is the most ridiculous web posting of a "news story" (read "rumor typed in a way it sounded important").
EDIT: forgot...the "news story" and that some tool registered lucasartsbioware.com LOL!
really the biggest support the kotor theroy has is the hiring of ex swg devs
Man that is scary! Run by LA the company that pushed SWG NGE, developed by ex SWG devs. The people that helped create the nightmare that was SWG NGE. If Bioware is doing a Star Wars MMO its dead already. (EA = just as souless and greedy as SOE)
Isn't SOE going to to only host/account management/billing sort of stuff for PotBS? The developers (Flying Lab I think) whoever it is is still going to manage the in game details, nerfing/updateing/content/doing all things in game?
Now if Bioware was doing a Star Wars mmo, KotOR/New Jedi Order whatever Star Wars timeline and SOE had the right to host/account management/billing sort of stuff. Wouldn't that kind of keep both parties happy?
We all know that SOE would probably throw a freaking parade to get out from under the abortion of SWG. If SOE were to host the new MMO, they would kind of save face with both the SWG/Bioware MMO by having their hands in both pockets and be able to shutdown SWG more quietly probably within a year of this new mmo. Now like I said I may be out of my element here, I don't think Bioware has ever hosted an mmo, my above scenerio would..........
SOE pros... 1) Shutting down SWG 2) Hosting this new Star Wars MMO, so still getting paid somehow, probably more money than the current SWG subscriptions. Bioware pros... 1) Complete control over gameplay. 2) They don't have to worry about hosting/billing sort of stuff. LA pros.. Everybody make money.
Just a thought so if I am misinformed I will wait for corrections.
Ok a couple statements of my own, assuming a star wars mmo is made by bioware:
If SoE ever touched any piece of the mmo, many would unsubscribe or cancel pre orders on the drop of a dime. And I wouldn't touch it in the first place. Remember vanguard? Same scenario would happen. I guarantee it. In fact I predicted in vanguards beta that soe would end up buying the game from sigil in one way or another. Funny how it happened so mysteriously and quick.
Them shutting down SWG in favor of bioware releasing this would be a good thing though imo. SWG needs to die hard. Its now an abomination. lol. As long as SoE has no part in the new game.

I really don't see SOE getting another shot to fuck up another Lucas Arts title!
Today, BioWare and LucasArts issued a monumentally boring press release announcing the two are collaborating on a "ground-breaking interactive entertainment product." The release promises more information is coming at a "later date," though all sights point to the long-hinted-at Star Wars MMO to follow the dysfunctional Star Wars: Galaxies.
When 1UP spoke with both Pandemic and BioWare about their decision to be acquired by Electronic Arts, we immediately asked what this meant for their existing publisher relationships. More specifically, did this mean a break from LucasArts -- no more Star Wars: Battlefront from Pandemic or another Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic by BioWare?
Their words were carefully chosen, but they left things open. "I don't think this necessarily closes as many doors as you think. BioWare, Pandemic right now have existing publishing relations with many companies and we're excited to continue those," said Pandemic President and co-founder Josh Resnick a few weeks ago.

Anyways... this is really going to be tea leaf reading now, heh. We catch every small tidbid, as if we were all little Sherlocks. Anyways... There is an article which says it mght be KOTOR III. But why make such a fuzz about a simple single player RPG? Or, so they say, it might be the KOTOR MMO and the Lucasarts MMO Bioware makes are TWO. I dont know... but it feels like rubbish, I mean ONE MMO is quite a lot of work, and TWO would surely be overstreching, even for a good company as Bioware.

Keep you on the edge of your seat and burn this into your brain till you can't stand it anymore?
Seems like its working according to plan.....
It's free marketing!....and it's brillant
I agree this is what they had in mind. I do think it could back fire if they wait too long to go public. When they keep hush-hush like this, fans tend to get out of control with speculation. It could set expectations too high, so when the final a words goes out...some may have a bit of a let down.
Maybe its both kotor 3 and kotor mmo in one. Like play a singleplayer version through the beginning part of the game and then go into the mmo for the whole game like any other mmo. Which is what Age of Conan is doing.

the 2 Doctors, , (the founders of Bioware really are doctors), have stated that the major challenge in their MMO is to bring that single player RPG experience to MMO where there are lots of players.
Another words not single player , X amount of levels, that Funcom is going with at AoC.
Anyhow, I do believe Bioware will come up with some original gameplay elements we have never seen in MMO, or bring those elements UP to a level that we have never seen them at.
I'm just glad that rumors of Starwars MMO by Bioware are over, unless they pull a nasty one, and say its Indiana JOnes
PS. No chance its just KOTOR 3, or console mmo, EA would not dish out $800 mil for that.

First of all, a lightsaber is not a wand. If Harry Potter was swinging a sword instead of a bent twig, the analogy would make more sense. Secondly, one is a story about pre-pubescent children in a boarding school, the other is not. Harry Potter IS for children... you like it, that's cool. But that just proves that you like children's books, not that Harry Potter isn't a children's book.

It’s like they wanna say it, but like something is legally holding them back from saying what it is out right yet, other than by dropping very carefully worded clues and hints. The current deal with SOE maybe?
What’s it mean? Look at the specific territory part in the definition.
It could mean that at this moment SOE has rights over the specific area of a SW MMO, which BioWare may not claim till after a contract between SOE and LEC is up. Because I believe that specific territory implies exclusivity, meaning one.

BioWare, LucasArts Working on New Game
Rumors of another Star Wars MMO come closer to fruition.

I dont know... but it feels like rubbish, I mean ONE MMO is quite a lot of work, and TWO would surely be overstreching, even for a good company as Bioware.
Tsk.... this silly secrecy. I dunno what good thats supposed to do.

–noun
2. the right or license granted by a company to an individual or group to market its products or services in a specific territory.
