I'm personally betting that Bioware's MMORPG will be based on Mass Effect or their own original I.P, they have stated that they're not working with lucas arts and they even went in a bit of a dispute with them over kotor 2 so I wouldn't get your hopes up on that area guys. Yeah it is stupid that these fanbois come along to the veteran forum just to nag us, I don't know why they do it personally, they know full well why we're pissed off and they know full well that we're never going to trust the company that took away our game ever again.
problem is, they (BioWare) has already stated, the IP is NOT their own

Yes they just added 3 new devs that start next week (and DeadMeat stated that is a net increase in the dev team numbers), Chapter 7 goes live tomorrow with ALL NEW content. Chapter 8 content now includes a ALL NEW boardable space station, many new ships including new POB's. Give it up this game is not going away, go stand in line for the new Bioware product, I will be playing and enjoying the current game for years before you get into that game.
If three is a net increase, that says a lot for the very, very small size of the dev team...

Gutboy,
If chapter 8 makes it before the end of the year, I will be very surprised. We are looking at March 08 if they can even keep the current pace. The dangling carrot trick is terribly old at this point...

LMAO I remeber the old days when we all used to jump at that damn carrot. At least most of us were smart enough to finally turn around and smack SOE upside the head with our plastic lightsabers

The writing is on the wall, we all know that Bioware is making Kotor online now. Between the rumors, interviews, and Bioware/Lucasarts anouncment yesterday that they have been working on a project together. The only reason we don't have an official anouncment is that SOE still officially has the rights to Star Wars online. I'd hate to see the last of the SWG community get screwed because they are holding out some last hope that SOE might actually do right by them. SOE has their 4th or 5th string dev team on SWG now. SOE has no expansions planned, and I'm sorry but those chapter publishes are not new content. Their is no money being put behind this game anymore because when the contract is up it's going to Bioware. Soe wants you to bieleve that the game is going strong because they want your subscription money for as long as possible. Don't let them screw you over like they did with the Vets.
Im currently playing SWG. You can go play KOTOR Online. Oops! I forgot that you can't.

1. Have more content 2. Play a combat system that is queue based, fun, and actually works. 3. Encounter only slightly fewer players than the average SWG server.

That had to hurt lol! well said. In fact, I'm feeling rather nostalgic myself *goes in search of KOTOR discs*
I post here because I am a veteran (launch day vet). The new "village" has NOTHING TO DO with what is there now. In fact only one of the three instances takes place on Dath, the others are on Tatooine and Lok. The heroic encounters are not just the same mobs with increased health. If you do not do things correctly as a team of players you will wipe the instance. And the stated goal of chapter 8 is to have it out by christmas, I personaly look forward the news ships missions and the new space station.

And once you figure out the one true Way the Devs decided they should be done (and they nerfed other ways to get through) you can macro your way through and go to sleep.
SWG could limp along for the next decade but when the plug is finally pulled, there will be those on this forum (the OP among them) posting in big bold letters "SEE! WE TOLD YOU SO!"
*sigh* we are talking years before this game emerges... I really cant see the point in getting excited and patiently waiting for a game that may not even see the light of day. Just seems like more veteran disgruntled SWG fans.
EA didn't dish out $800 million for a game that "may not see the light of day"...
SWG could limp along for the next decade but when the plug is finally pulled, there will be those on this forum (the OP among them) posting in big bold letters "SEE! WE TOLD YOU SO!" SWG will be around a few more years.
I agree, SWG will limp along.
I ran into and mentored a few new players during my last vet trial. The new players loved the game (particularly crafting), but when I told them of how it once was...
They wished they'd found out about SWG sooner.
There's still a lot there to like. The catch for us vets is the NGE can't ever match what we knew preCU, with all the many faults the preCU had.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.
SWG has been relagated to Station Access Pass filler, much like Matrix Online and Planetside. There will be NO expansions, there will be no upgrades and the chapter publishes will take longer and longer to go live. The plug doesn't haver to be pulled, the game is essentially dead in the water as it is. The only reason the game isn't free to Station Pass holders is because they can still squeeze $$$$ out of the target audience for new in-game gifts with each repackaging of the game.
The game is actually growing, in fact a easy way to check that is the amount of hiring of devs they do. The are adding 3 next week in fact (devs said it was a net gain in devs not replacements for people). Chapter 7 is loading on live now and Chapter 8 will be out by Christmas. The devs have stated (as recently as yesterday) that they will be pumping out new content alot faster than they did this year.
adding 3 devs doesn't seem like much compared to how many there were before. They're just hiring to help fix what they damaged. I think the most clear sign of SWG growing is for SOE to make another expansion... a RETAIL expansion too! none of this digital download crap, that's just SOE being incredibly cheap.
About how the writing is on the wall.. Now that EA bought bioware.. whatever they were working on will be total crap. That the NGE will look like the best game "evah" compared to it when EA gets done mandating changes.
You can have the "yes" and "no" crowd..
While those that don't believe EA can taint whatever BioWare was making can list.. all the post MMO's that EA bought.. While the owners assured us that nothing would change... and nothing did and the games became gleaming paragons of mmo'ness.
Oh wait you can't.. because every company EA bought (including mythic) has gone down the golden toilet to steaming poo poo land.
Pre-NGE, SWG had 70+ Devs on the team. Today they have about 20. One left, they've hired 3 more, so that means they have about 22. That isn't much.
SOE is competing for Devs in a market that is in a bubble situation. Everyone and his uncle has a MMO startup running right now, so Devs are much in demand. So they are grabbing anyone they can get.
Considering that most of the SWG devs are "noobs" (inexperienced, many of them are on their first ever Dev job) you could say that SOE is using the game as a minor league team.
I expect the end of SWG to be sudden... It also could happen at any time, even today or tomorrow.

While you may have a point... this is Bioware we're talking about. Besides, since LA and Bioware had made this agreement before EA bought Bioware, EA HAS to honor whatever is in that contract, whether they like it or not. UNless of course EA draws a new contract, in which case, then yes you might be right.

Lets get "real" here. I'm back in the game and SWG is certainly NOT growing. If your on bloodfin or bria, u might think so because of the mass exodus off the ghost servers for any1 that can afford the $50 bucks, but it is certainly NOT growing.
I would imagine that there is a big test going on now. If they can't recapture some new subs with C7 and C8, that they lost BTW with C6, this games future is probably not looking so good. Hopefully, they will not count "vet" trials in their sub count this time, like they had to when Smedley anounced that they had 100K subs. Sad part is, that they actually might draw a few new subs and these people will find nothing but frustration due to the C6 Combat Downgrade.
And with the LA/BIOWARE anouncement, SWG's end could very well be just a matter of time now. My guess is that LA would like SWG to continue with some limited sucess as this is probably the base they expect for the new MMO. After that game comes out, I would imagine LA couldn't care less about SWG.

Yeah I said in another thread, at least 75+ members in the dev pre-CU, 1 for each of the 32 profs and most likely 2 for Jedi (due to multiple force trees), art team, bug team, space team, such and such. I remember one of the main Jedi focus devs didn't cooperate with the BH focus dev when trying to address the tracking droid problem (when you couldn't track Jedi with them).
And if I'm not mistaken, 2 of the ex-SWG devs joined Bioware Austin for this new project and isn't Ralph Koster one of them?
Honestly, this new dev team SOE has for SWG are actually putting forth effort for their current subscribers, though the collections is simply a time sink to keep people busy, chapter 8 will be better with onboard capitol ships and stations, I may be curious on that when it comes out.

No, Raph has started his own company, producing the project called Metaplace. You may be thinking of Gordon Walton.
