Just wondering what everyone else thinks blizzards next-gen mmo will be? (for those that dont know blizzard are hiring for a top secrete project http://www.blizzard.com/jobopp/ )
My thoughts... 4 Options
1) WoW 2 - imo totaly unlikley WoW is doing so well at the moment and has scope to carry on extending the content with expansion packs. Dont belive there is enough other content to release a second game with out it just being the same game with better graphics and a few diffrent options.
2) Starcraft - personaly I would love this idea, but all would depend on which direction they took it, no doubt it would be popular and it's diffrent enough from the fantasy world of warcraft that its not in direct competion with WoW
3) Diablo - loved diablo (1 and 2) so would like to see this as an mmo, not sure if blizzard will continue with this though as the team responsible for the previous games have left and its another fantasy game so it would be in direct competion with wow.
4) New Title - I'm sure when they decided to release another mmo there had to be some thought gathering on the idea of a totaly new title. They can still build on the success of the other games and any title with blizzard in (no matter how many people want to bash them) will be popular. This gives them the most scope in terms of story and expansions. Plus no people screaming this doesnt fit with the lore...
5) Somthing I missed?
My ideal would be a SCFI option 4...

It would be crazy NOT to do a Starcraft MMO. It is theone that most people want, it has the biggest possibilty to be as great success as WoW and it has the biggest possibility to pull in just as much money, if not more than WoW. If your company has any desire to make money, there is no answer other than Starcraft. Making a new liecence instead of this megahit would be an 8 year effort in stupidity
"This is not a game to be tossed aside lightly.
It should be thrown with great force"
I never played much Starcraft, and I've been out of WoW for a long time, but if they (Blizz) make a Starcraft MMO..... There will be no question, I will pay to play it.
Blizzard have officially stated that WoW 2 ain't gonna happen.. Can't find the link though but sure it's in last weeks MMORPG.com news somewhere...
Starcraft mmo would be massiveeeeeeeeeeeeeee
No gay jpeg here.
I would absolutely LOVE a Starcraft MMO... But, somehow, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Diablo MMO in response to Flagship as a, "THIS is how you do it." sort of response to Hellgate.
I don't think it will be WoW 2. They pretty much killed all Warcraft content for their base players of the earlier games w/ ridiculous time consuming raids and people who have WAY too much time on their hands IMO.
I have been a follower of the story since I was in 6th grade and I am 24 now. There is no way I can do all those raids or barely even normal dungeons with my current play schedule so I am pretty upset after the fact that they made Warcraft an MMO in the first place.
I just hope they don't do the same for Starcraft, I love playing SC single player w/ the multiplayer option. The last thing I want is another beloved game of mine to turn into a time consuming raid.'
Diablo on the other hand, I love but I think would be better if it was an MMO. Diablo was the first game I played over the internet and it's multiplayer was always awesome. I think the story would fit much better in an MMO setting since it doesn't focus on major character roles like Warcraft did. You basically just had the 3 Evils and your (nameless) guy. I think that leaves a huge window for including lots of content for a multiplayer based game.
If it is a new franchise I suppose I would be interested because Blizz has only let me down once but their track record will entice me enough.
"We haven't even started to think about a sequel," he said. "The team still has a huge wishlist of exciting features to add on top of what's already been implemented since launch. Not to mention, we're all still playing the game pretty heavily ourselves, and there's a lot more content that we want to see as players."
do yo mean this "New Opening: Game Physics/Collision Programmer - Next-Gen MMO"
they say physics/collision.it means the way objects interact with each other.i think they are refering to WotLK for the destructible buildings nad maybe for buildings destruction for future patches.i don`t think they are going to kill theyr own game with anotherone

Remember the good old days when devs made games just for the sake of making a great game?
They are forever gone now all they care is about how much they can earn from them, if they can't make millions they won't make that game.
REMEMBER THE OLD DAYS AND REGRET THEY HAVE PASSED.
Yeah, I would have thought so as well, but project-wise, it's marked as "Top Secret". Every other position for WoW is marked as for WoW. Also, WoW is not a Next-gen MMO. Third, they are doing a good chunk of hiring for the Top Secret Project: 2 Lead 3D Character Artists, 2 Lead 3D Environment Artists, a Senior 3D Character Artist, a 3D Background Artist, an Environment Texture Artist, and a Senior 3D Character Animator.
they can afford to do whatever they want. no new investors will be needed, and investors won't say no since they were only expecting 200-300 thousand users for WoW.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
There also hiring a Senior Game Designer for the "top secrete" title also... http://www.blizzard.com/jobopp/designer-senior-game.shtml
Sure would be cool if it is a Starcraft MMO...
their next MMO project will make or break my views of blizzard. just because they have no rabid-say-no investors on their back, they have whatever funding they need(whether from retained earnings, or investors+loan agencies lining up at the door). I predict that the next WoW expansion will be released almost exactly one week before they show what they're planning on making to people who have a stake in their company.
it's hard for companies to convince investors that now is the time to bring out a new IP, if blizzard passes up this chance I'd find it amusing(though not breaking to my opinions). If they try to bring out a starcraft MMO I'd be amused(save it for a rainy year type thing). If they capture the typical EQ epic grind genre again I'd find that hilarious.
they're perfectly set up to bring out something completely new, if they don't atleast show SoE how vangaurd should be done I'd be extremely surprised. and if they don't try one completely new thing in the game I'd be more surprised.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
I only played WoW for a few months—the whole endless pursuit of items and raiding scene didn't appeal to me—but I did appreciate that it was a quality product. I believe I read someplace that Blizzard said that "if and when" they made another MMO it would be completely different from WoW. Whatever they come up with, I'm sure it will be well made and hopefully appeal to the many for whom WoW is not an option.
Diablo mmo anyone? Maybe Starcraft?
world of the the lost vikings or blackthorne's rock and roll racing for sure
Blizzard rather wait and keep people hooked to WoW as long as possible before they spend a lot of cash to create a new MMO. My guess blizzard will wait at least a year before they start a new MMO project.
Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.
or start now so they have an extra year to work on it.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
Well.. Starcraft MMO seems more then likely to be honest. First respark the interest by making Starcraft 2 (the original is 10 years old now however you look at it, most of todays kids simply have no idea what a phenomenon it was/is). For sure there will be an expansion after an year or so. And then, when SC mania is here again and comparable/better than W3 is doing on Battle.net, bam, announce a Starcraft MMO. So, the release date might be about 4-5 years from now, which can be a reasonable timeframe to build a next-gen MMO to perfection. They would be crazy to pass on the potential the SC setting has and also would be crazy not to continue in the MMO franchise and we know WoW cant live forever. Even those 4-5 years might be pushing it.
Subscribtions: EVE, SWTOR WOW, WAR, DDO, VG, AOC, COV, FFXI, GW, RFO, Aion
+plenty of F2P, betas, trials
Female Dwarf player: WOW, VG, WAR, DDO
.
Due to the recent economic crisis and spending cuts the light at the end of the tunnel was turned off. Sincerely, God.
either way my interest is slightly perked because I remember blizzard saying that it's next MMO won't be anything like WoW. which rules out the EQish style everything.
they might even go so far as to have a player controled world. or at least a constant battle type thingy.
if you get something like starcraft I could imagine starting out as the working building a few buildings with my guild and upgrading to the different units at them. each unit has it's own leveling scheme for instance 10-15 levels for each unit type.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
Whatever it turns out to be, I hope they make it a little more challenging than WoW. But my guess is that they will stick with the WoW formula given its tremendous success.
There is no next project. According to the "experts" here on these forums, Blizzard is DOOMED! WoW's days are numbered and should be shutting down any day. At least that is what the experts here will tell you. Don't you know, Blizzard is faking it's cash on hand, subscription numbers, next expansion, next project. everything. According to the experts around here, if you are a Blizzard fan, sucks to be you because you will have no game and nothing to look forward to very soon.
Didin't you guys know that Vanguard, AoC, Darkfall, STO, PoTBS, Fury, TR, HG:L, Spellborn and all the others are all WoW killers. Soon, Blizzard will be no more and then many "experts" here on MMORPG.com will be happy.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
But from what I have heard, the great developers who made the original WoW have all left Blizzard.
WoW is a game, especially with TBC, that once you max level and grind all that faction and get armor sets, you realize that the game was mostly shallow, repetitive, routine, and probably addictive. From my understanding, the developers that work on WoW are all zergy-type of people who like to repeatedly raid the same mobs and instance over and over and over and over again.
Developers keep creating MMORPGs that force people to repeatedly raid (usually at the "end-game") when people really want 1) world immersion; 2) sophisticated character customization; 3) more exploration and adventure; 4) deep and rich Questing; and 5) a fun and workable PvP system.

WoW and fast food = commercial successes.
I neither play WoW nor eat fast food.
I think they will go with Starcraft. To do diablo would just basically create competition against themselves.
Torrential
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Rumor is Blizzard has a secret project called Hydra. Blizzard said they don't have any current project that has to do with warcraft.
I'm guessing it's either something new or diablo 3. I do doubt it has to do with Starcraft since it's not Starcraft Ghost and a Starcraft MMO should be insanely hard to pull off correctly. But if it is a MMO it won't be out till 2011 seeing how it took 4 years to make WoW.
I thnk they should create a Sci-Fi space based game similar in concept and application to their current WoW series. PvE servers, PvP servers and RP versions of both to give the gamers the chance to choose their own version instead of the one size fits all concept, hell I'd subscribe just to spite a certain other Sci-Fi game.
