ripptor is not very smart eh? Interaction doesn't mean you can't go to that part of the world , think of WoW you can go to horde city as an alliance and vice versa but you cannot trade with horde or talk to them or party with them. YOu can go there and duel, possibly fight if attacked etc. Maybe there will be a AH for cross faction trade.
I think you don't understand what interaction means, there's a difference between interaction and forbidden/closed off.
So your saying, if you travel to Elyos lands as an Asmodian, and you come across one of them (maybe you can't attack them/trade w.e) and decide to direct a rude emote at them - is that not interacting?
If Ken had said "you can't engage or trade or speak" with the opposite faction outside Abyss, then it would seem his intent to differentiate not being able to go there, and being able to go there, but not being able to do do anything with the players. So obviously your not very smart, and need to learn to read.
It is definitley worth getting super worked up about something that may or may not be true some time in the future at a date yet to be determined depending what coutnry you live in.
Anytime-anywhere World PvP is a great Idea as it adds to realism to conflicts. What Blizzard didn't anticipate was how almost ALL the servers was one sided battles(majority of players are Alliance) and there was nothing they can do about it. If you played the Horde, you would know what I mean as to how unfair the constant Alliance raids were at CrossRoads and Tarren Mill. We were always out numbered 3 -1. Don't get me wrong, I had fun even though most of the time it was only me and a hand full of other Horde against 100+ Alliance. Then it started to get tedious when most of them decided to make rogues. The sollution? They made "Balanced" Battle grounds to avoid one-sided Raids. Like it matters, the Alliance just camp outside the Battle ground entrances. Incentive to world PvP? Maybe if it was Balanced. Just because WoW is popular doesn't mean it's flaws are tolerance-free.
I'm sure NCSoft wanted World PvP also, but didn't want to suffer the same issues WoW has. They learned from WoW's mistakes and added the Server controlled 3rd Faction Power Balance Feature(The Balaur) to avoid one-sided battles.Could they have just added that feature to the entire world? Maybe. But this system is new and unsure if it would even work effectively. Who knows, the Abyss could just be a testing ground until the Balance feature is perfected.
Aion is aiming for pvp and non-pvp influenced gamers. If you think WoW is um.. so "WoW" and great, Why don't you just play there the rest of your life?
So your saying... just because of the possibility that world pvp might be 1 sided, they should remove an important and integral part of the MMO experience? Thats retarded
Better they have the system with its imbalaces to start, then improve it over time, than avoid this aspect altogether and cheapen the overall experience.
BTW noobshit, I never said wow was a great game - I merely commented on its overall well designed inclusion of an important aspect of pvp. As for your comment on it aimimg for pvp and non pvp gamers - thats what servers are for, would you agree that even the non pvper would like the oppertunity to enter another side of the world with his main - if not to fight but exlpore it and experience how it feels to be unwelcome?
It might also be that their desing is actually great, and ripptor is just wrong.
Shame that there are so many people who judge a game based on some features told about while it's in desing, when ultimately it's not the features that make the game, its the execution of those features.
And shame that people think that when they disagree with professional team making and MMO about how to make a good MMO, then the only possibility is that all those professinals are wrong.
OK - Just to set the record straight, your IQ is equivalent to your failed literacy test score. "its not the features that make the game, its the execution of those features" ....what?
They know how to make a good MMO? more like they know how to make a half good mmo, think hard about the last mmo they ever made that was considered Good or better for the western market? (Guild Wars wasn't made by NC soft, only published). Just because they are professionals who have been making games for years, doesn't mean they haven't made qualified Pieces of Sh*t - they have made mistakes many times before, and though they have a good rep in Asia - fact is, they are making an MMO supposedly for western gamers, and to my knowledge, they haven't done that right yet.
Player imput is paramount for them (they even directly stated this), as they are aiming for a home run for the western market, so posts like mine house valid concerns that i beleive many gamers will agree with. IF it turns out that I am wrong, and we can ACTUALLY access opposing factions areas, then it is their fault for misscommunicating information - as they should know the playerbase reads into anything they say and sometimes turns it into something else - which can be very bad for PR...

Noobshit? "Sniff,Sniff" I think you're the one with the soiled diaper.
If it was possible to improve it they would've done it by now. If they add it now and can't improve it later, then it's WoW all over again. Regardless of how important a certain aspect is, if it's gonna cause too many complaints, they would rather not implement it. Not everyone shares the same views as you do. If they did, then all the games would be exactly the same. A game can't be called unique if all of them must have these "important aspects" automatically implemented in all of them, assuming they work. I love PvP, but what are my chance of finding the ultimate pvp experience if everyone has different tastes?

Troll, while you have some points, you fail to realise, that while it is similar to DAoC and WAR (not AoC, you can go anywhere), Its a step down from the best example, WoW - which happens to be the biggest, most well-recieved and most popular MMO of all time - which has world pvp (even tho its not as supported as intanced pvp/arenas, etc). In fact, if you read about PvP gripes about WoW, the number 1 complaint (maybe besides class balance) is lack of incentive for World pvp - as many players feel forced to BG/ARENA for gear/honour, when World pvp should have more rewards, as it is the best kind, most loved form of pvp. So they ARE making a big mistake....
You're assuming because WoW is extremely successful, it's ONLY one aspect of the game that makes it so.
MANY people HATE world PvP, especially FFA PVP, which I compare to running around the mall and killing all members of a certain race, sex, etc, just because you can. Yeah, that's that's brilliant. Remember Wow has non-pvp servers too that thrive just as well. Just because YOU love pvp, it doesn't mean everyone else does, and thinks there are flaws in AION. Jeez. Stop assuming everyone is a PvPer, and a mindless one at that.
I seriously don't understand how anyone can just "relax" in a level/quest zone, with the constant worry that they will be ganked at ANY GIVEN TIME, usually when they are at 10% health, and usually by unwaivering odds (as ALMOST ALL pvpers I've seen in 10 years of gaming, are just PURE cowards). Killing just because the game "allows" it, again, brilliant. Personally, I HATE that feeling. I like to group, tackle tough missions, quest, explore, cooperate, make friends, etc., in an MMO. These are things that seems all but lost with so many MMO's these days - especially new ones. Remember dungeon exploration? Wow, what's that? Games today, IMHO, mostly "suck" and cater to "pvp kiddies". Especially the mindless Asian grinders. Much of the magic of games like EQ (which I loved AND hated), seem gone.
Look on the shelves too.. ever since doom and quake, everything turned pro war.. swat games ruled the market.. kill kill kill kill kill!!... adventure/thinking games all but died, as well as the glorious RPGS I grew up on.
Enough with all the god damn PvP.. there's enough games that are dominated by it already. We REALLY don't need any more, at LEAST from MY standpoint. All the people who grew up on Doom/Quake/UT, etc, seem to know NOTHING else.
Why not more ideas like cooperation, as in base control, as in Tabula Rasa? Of course their approach (I was a beta tester) seems stuck on an infinite loop, but why not take it a step further? Why can't they devote more time to AI, like RTS games, and have players band together to stop a SMART (AI) -based legion of this or that enemy? Why can't they storm towns? Send "good" npcs screaming for guards and help from co-op'd players fighting back the enemy and their nasty boss. Is this even in a single MMO?
Yeah so, I go against the grain.. so what. The majority has their mindless pvp.. why not keep some well designed RvR pvp (Daoc), AND have smart RvR AI vs Human co-op play? Yeah, I know, I'm nuts.
I have a been a huge fan of this game for a year now, and was really gettin hyped up about this game until I saw something that made me think, NCsoft has F***ed up again... In a recent interview with Developer Ken Choi (think it was #6), he stated that outside of The Abyss (the pvp zone where PvPvE would take place), there would be no interaction between the 2 races. This means 2 things: You are limited to 1 part of the world when you choose a fraction (this is a MMO, remember), and THERE IS NO WORLD PVP. They claim to be aiming at Western MMO players, then they go and make a incomprehensably stupid design choice. Making it so that if your Asmodian, you can't experience the Elyos side of the world, and world pvp/raid towns/fight for dungeons is just rediculous - and would seem the biggest mistake ive ever seen in an MMO - this can barely be called an MMO anymore. If they had any sense (of what the hell they are doing), they would at least make it so that if your Asmodian, and are in an Elyos area, you can't attack them, unless they attack you 1st, but NOT stop them from experiencing/interacting with the other faction altogether, thats shortchanging the costumer to the extreme. If they don't change this before launch, this game will be a HUGE failure - sure, some people might buy the game and not know this sad truth, but once they find out, they will leave within a month - G G...
Sounds a lot like City of Heroes vs. City of Villains. Villains are trapped on the isles and Heroes are trapped in Paragon. You only see each other in pvp zones or on special task forces.

You are misrepresenting the WoW pvp issue here. Warcraft is in fact the biggest MMO ever, but it is overwhelmingly a PVE game. The vast majority of warcraft players focus soley on PvE. Stating the lack of incentinve for world pvp is the number 1 gripe you are either intentionally mistating facts or you are misinformed. Is it an issue with some players...I am sure..is it on top of most peoples wish list...nope.

Well, this is certainly opinion isn't it. Quite frankly, I think it's fine. So I guess they didn't mess up. And no, it won't be a huge failure. It will appeal to players who are attracted to this type of gameplay.

Seems most of you forgot about the "Teleporters" that open at random time between Asmodians and Elyos zone, allowing each faction to enter the other faction area and therefore PvP ....
Sure its still in development, but nothing said that idea was abandon, so if this idea still is in this would be theoricly how it works :
In a Asmodian lvl 15-20 zone (Numbers are just EXAMPLE don't take them as granted !) , a Teleporter opens to an Elyos 15-20 zone. therefore Asmodian that goes threw that portal ends up in the Elyos territory (kinda hostil territory don't you think ?)§
And guess what, if Elyos finds that Asmodians that went threw the portal , they'll just grant him and shake hands !!! .... erm wait no, they'll grant him with some blades and arrows and spells in the face , yeah thats more like it ...
So there WILL be PvP Everywhere, but in a certain degree .... Just be patient, and wait and see
(now Again a little reminder, that whole teleporter/portal thing is still in development ! )

What? Thats your opinion... personnaly, I think most MMOs todays cater to carebears. Right now theres only EVE online that is really hardcore. Dont tell me wow is a Pvp game, the pvp in wow is something the devs attached on the side of PVE to make the pvpers shut up, but its not well done.
I also cant understand how someone can enjoy a game where the only dumb thing you can do is fight against a stupid AI... random/FFA pvp fixes that.
I'm still waiting for a MMO with real pvp. Like good old UO. ( Or EVE but not in space. booh )
Remember people! Its still closed beta in korea, I mean, they didnt even got to the Abyss subject on the test server...
And please do a intensive search about the game.. the guy is human, and a korean speaking in english... mistake? most probably... but Ive listened to it and I just think your taking the wrong conclusions anyway..
And about the Abyss, you will be able to pvp your enemy race obviously, take for example the castles, they can be conquered by both races, and to take it from your enemy you have to what?? Kill your enemy obviously..
But ofc you wont be able to interact with your enemy race, thats why theire enemys, u kill them, simple as that...
Oh and btw, there will be certain "doors" in each race worlds which will take you to a instance where both races can pvp with eachother.. Those "doors" show up randomly, anytime, anywhere... (like Orphen explained)
But once again remember, games dont have to all be hard core pvp, each game atracts certain type of players...
Aion is still being developed, theres no point in saying if it will fail or succeed until its final version is launched... but IMHO this game will be a big hit, most players out there dont rlly look for hard core pvp in fantasy MMOs like Aion, but mostly the immersive aspect of it.
During GStar devs introduced us to the portals concept, so cynthe is right.
In an interview, PlayNC representatives stated that there would be portals that would communicate both worlds in order to complete quests or slay the other faction.
Portals would open randomly during a short period of time and there would be some kind of announcement that would make everyone notice there's a portal opening somewhere.
During GStar's asmodians beta there were portals already, there are a lot of videos with elyos moving into asmodian lands and viceversa.
Portals look pretty much like purpleish twirls, and there are a lot of videos in youtube from GStar showing them, so hold your tears ^^.
I find this funny, because I was not really interested about Aion, untill I did see this thread. Maybe someone failure is someone luck. So, they gonna do it little like CoH/CoV style. So, PvE and PvP are seperated by zones.
Yeah, fundamentally. But the random portals will make it a bit more dynamic.
Originally posted by ripptor THERE IS NO WORLD PVP.
GOOD! VERY GOOD! On one hand, there is a designated PvP zone; what's the purpose of that, if the game is a world pvp one? Ppl need to level in peace and engage in PvP only if they want to, and not being forced by stupid raiders. You step into a PvP zone, you know what's going to happen, but other than that, training should happen in a PvE zones only. I played several games with this type of world construction and it really works: the pvpers still get their kicks, and the others can level with no risk of being ganked by idiots every 5 minutes. On the other hand, you always have the option to choose between the various available games; you don't like it, you don't have to play it. Rest assured, the game will still attract a large crowd, precisely because it's not a world pvp game.
FFXI Online has no World PVP either and it is very successful. Though I am not 100% sure this game will be for pvpers but there will be some pvp atleast.
Some MMO dev's make the continual mistake of comparing Eastern mmo's to Western. They say wow there are millions of people playing L2 in Asia, it must be good, players must want this. What they fail to realize is that there are about 3 billion Chinese/Koreans/ etc... compared to 500 million North Americans. Western mmo players prefer a different style of play. Asian mmo makers just don't get it. I agree with the OP this game is not going to do as well as War or AoC. It will be like CoH, it will do ok, but only ok.
Zig is right Gameloading...just face it- this game is vaporware here in the states....I would bet next years salary that it wont even come close to CoH numbers, which, by the time WAR & AoC come out, will be very sub par in the american market.
No way that game is competing with any of the big dogs, nor taking members away form their playerbases.
Fanboi or not (and I think you might be) , you will be proven wrong on Aion..there is nothing spectacular or next gen about this title, and you've got to come up with something great to attract US players....we are nothing like the asian market.

Sounds a lot like City of Heroes vs. City of Villains. Villains are trapped on the isles and Heroes are trapped in Paragon. You only see each other in pvp zones or on special task forces.
Lets crate a petition to devs that will change theyir minds :P we want PvP in enemy lands :P
If we get eunogh singhs we might be convice them to change their minds

Hmm
Just be patient, and wait and see
(now Again a little reminder, that whole teleporter/portal thing is still in development ! )

MMORPG.COM has worst forum editor ever exists
Yeah, fundamentally. But the random portals will make it a bit more dynamic.
GOOD!
