You cannot play an evil character. No, Horde is not evil; they're just... not Alliance. The evil in WoW is what you fight (sometimes) in PvE.
The last evil player characters were in Everquest, that I've seen, serving the god of hate as a shadow knight with the rotting corpse of a fallen enemy as a slave; using dark powers of robbing life and striking terror into the hearts of those who dare to oppose me...(no no no no! a WoW warlock with his cute little wisecracking imp doesn't cut it) Even EQ2 has replaced evil with grumpy. Talking with a snotty attitude is not evil, it's just not friendly.
Don't get me wrong, I dislike this about all the mmorpgs. Well, at least Lord of the Rings Online lets you sort of play evil characters with their monster play, but you start at level 50 and it's made for pvp not regular character play.
Burning Crusade was the most expensive expansion for a game I have ever seen! (What happened to $20-$30 expansions?)
In my opinion WoW does a great job of taking existing, popular features, and working them into a very fun and easy to play game.... so it doesn't make much sense that they're one of the only major games with no player housing.
Overall I like WoW a lot, but I figure with all the subscription money I've spent there's nothing wrong with saying what I'd like to see changed
i really enjoy wow, i will bitch about things they do, like my bitching about their sound change, but i still love the game. all the hate for the game is like anything else in this world, whatever is the top dog get all the hate, just like people hated everquest when it was on top, microsoft, new england patriots right now etc etc...it'll never change, whatever is on top will get the most crap.

Class imbalance, 100% itemized PvP, shit community, rep grinds, boring quests, lack of diversity among players, lack of different styles of armor among players, lack of good world PvP, twinks, ebayers who screw up the economy, lack of balance regarding the alliance to horde, or horde to alliance ratios, and lack of any new 1-60 content.

Bravo! I'd like to add to this: Small game world, original story limited to extremely time (pretty much useless now) consuming raiding, repetative gameplay, and PVP is limited to repeats of Arena's and Battlegrounds.
Another thing that urks me is how it went from Warcraft (orcs vs humans) w/ diversity among the 2 factions (mages vs locks - Death knights vs Paladins - shamans vs rangers)
The game just doesn't evolve. It's always the same constant thing from day 1. The world just feels dead and dull. They add new things but never do anything with the older content. Like why don't they go redo a zone or something? How long is it going to take to cure Felwood? What about AQ? If C'thun is dead and no one does AQ anymore, why can't it be a new Cenarion Capital city of some sort? When WoTLK is out and Arthas is dead, are you going to cure the Plaguelands and turn it into something different? Maybe add some quests to help clean the place up or build it back up? Then a patch later, make Stratholme a new city and restore Lorderon?
NO! It's always going to be the same damn thing and that is what pisses me off about this game the most next to the repetitivness.
WoW: The McDonalds of MORPGs, I still go there, but that doesn't mean I like it or would ever admit to it or don't prefer KFC.
And Kara, you have to do 3 core quests, one of them involves beating a boss that you pretty much beat with sheer luck, you will never beat him with skill, you will never beat him with gear, you just win by luck.
BC raids have become stupidly over complex and requiring too much time to complete.
I was reading the Aion forums, which is already being dismissed as another Korean grindfeast, dispite the fact it's expecting a more WoW like model. Which is quite sad because the bulk of WoW is still in the end game, the rest is just pointless. At least the Korean grinders make something out of the leveling process, WoW just shoves it in your way.
Cartooney, safe, simple, mindless, corporate, dumbed down mmo that's directed the mmo market into a horrid relm of big buisness destroying much of the innovation in place of market study of what can get the masses.
Dare any new MMO coming out defy this mold? I will always refuse to play junk like this.
2.3 patch just released, lessened the experience needed to level 20-60, and quest experience got boosted a lot.
The reputation grind got nerfed too, no longer need to deliver 5000 runecloth to get exalted with Darnassus, you can just do quests.
You can now buy season 1 epics for honor.
The game got less repetetive and more fun while leveling new character, and while PvPing.
Its the best there is out there.
Blizzard is working on next generation mmorpg, I think they make it more skill based like Diablo 2 and less level based. They are going for 1 billion subscribers
Blizzard has lessened the grind several times. That's complete crap.
They only fixed the time it takes to get to level 60 because all that content is completely redundant and new players had to wade through pointless repetitive crap in order to get to the actual end game bit where people actually play. They could've done that ages ago, but they've only done it now because they screwed it up completely.
The only difference is that you'll spend less time in STV, and more time wishing there was a Tank or Healer.
No one had to deliver 5000 runecloth to anyway, you just grind till you get the money for a mount because they super inflated gold in TBC but made you spend twice as much on new mounts you only need if you want to see end game content.
What they didn't do is help the grind at level 70, so now more people can camp the same dalies hoping to get the same rep and not find any tanks or healers.
They fixed things other companies wouldn't be stupid enough to do in the first place.

I hate that players of different tastes can't just accept that, shut up and let everybody enjoy what they like.
Hm, no. That has nothing to do with WoW. It's people on the internet in general, just more easily spotted on MMOG forums.

Blizzard isn't some evil empire out to destroy MMOs. They have a long track record of releasing fun games that are successful. They even hired high profile EQ players to help make sure WoW was fun. The problems as I see it are two fold.
1) the market pre-wow and for the few years after was dominated by bad games that release half finished buggy games depending on people to pay-to-beta for several years after launch or were just filled with mechanics that were nothing but roadblocks/time sinks to having fun. It was a very weak market that delivered gameplay in favor of game companies instead of players. Quality wasn't a word often associated with MMO releases.
2) WoW delivers the best over all product on the market when taking in all the considerations. Call it whatever you want it has something for everyone. It sure has its flaws and there are plenty of games that do single aspects much better here or there, but overall WoW caters to many tastes and makes the game playable and easy to get into.
I don't blame blizzard for having success, especially to the scale they have. It isn't like they planned it this way or even expected this kind of dominance. The way I see it is that so many other companies just flat out failed to make engrossing games that don't need to be fought with in order to have fun. The game list to the left is littered with titles that should have been great, but arn't. I don't blame blizzard for that and can't blame anyone else for cloning WoW except the companies that failed to deliver innovation the first time around. Afterall WoW is just a clone of EQ era games that did things right. Nothing is stopping the next generation from taking the good learned from WoW and making it better.

Doing the same boring quests at level one at max level + raiding end-game emphasis.
Due to WoW, the MMO genre has gone from hardcore to carebear.

Ruined the concept of the way MMO's should be, and attracted 12 year old kids.
Made generic coments on forums a fad.
I can do it in one word . . . community

After hitting 70 and do nothing but grind rep and raid, it becomes more like a job than it is fun.
