    UO for sure.

I loved being a miner with no defenses, it really kept the fear in your heart. I am still scared to this day if I see anything with RED text.

    EQ hands down.

I miss their unique approach of making players earn everything they received.

FFXI held my interest the most, and always keeps me coming back when other games lose my interest

Asheron's Call 1, easily.  These days, EVE.

  • HexxeityHexxeity Member Posts: 848

Everquest with yesterday's player base and today's expansions and updates.

Back then, it was a bunch of fun people putting up with terrible game mechanics.  Now it's no people in an amazingly deep and varied game.  Sigh.

Best game experience that isn't a hypothetical mix of different parts of history?  Hmm, that's a tough one ...

I guess it's still the early days of EQ.  The only game to match the awe-inspiring setting of EQ is WoW, but WoW never had anything close to as decent a community.

Asherons Call was my all time favorite.  One of the things I loved about the game which is kinda different were the sounds.  To this day if someone played the sound of portaling or casting Armor on yourself or fizzling a spell I would know which on was what.

What made that game special for me was the community.  Hands down the best I have ever seen.

    1- Everquest (still going)

2- Asheron's Call (would love to play again)

3- Dark Ages of Camelot (tasty PvP)

    1. Dark Age Of Camelot

    2. World Of Wacraft (Pre-Burning Crusades)

    3. Everquest 2

SWG pre-cu/cu, the game was endless fun. Never have I enjoyed myself in a game so much. I'm still trying to look for a replacement. 2 years later, and still nothing that compares.

I also like Lineage 2. I had an amazing time playing it. Made some amazing friends and joined some cool clans.

    Favourite Game
SWG - Sabanak, Retired Jedi, Bria

    Playing: Nothing

    Waiting for: SWG Pre-CU

Retired: SWG, CoX, Vanguard, MxO, Guildwars, Archlord, Auto Assault, EQ2, Final Fantasy XI,
Lineage 2, Saga of Ryzom, DAOC, WoW, AOC, WAR

It was the best for me as well.  Not only does nothing compare, nothing comes remotely close.

SWG before they did anything to it. It was an amazing thing.

  • HengistHengist Member RarePosts: 1,315

    UO without a doubt.

SWG Pre-CU was pretty solid as well.

Both games I took more enjoyment from, than frustration from any bugs that they ever had. WoW was probably one of the most polished, but even without the amount of bugs I experienced in the other 2 games, I still had more fun with both of 'em.

    DAOC > AC > WoW

  • Tuor7Tuor7 Member RarePosts: 982

    Best Hack-n-slash: WoW

    Best RP Game: AmberMUSH

    Best Hybrid: DragonRealms

WoW was a lot of fun until you hit the endgame stuff. That got pretty repetitive after a while.

AmberMUSH was a MUSH (not to be confused with a MUD). I'll never experience that sort of RP again. Times have changed and that sort of environment is gone forever.

DragonRealms is an amazing game. It probably represents the best a non-graphical MUD can achieve.

DAoC was by far the most fun and involving in it's first 3 years. Fond memories of EQ too, but I also recall tons of reasons for leaving and moving to DAoC.

MMOs Played: EQ 1&2, DAoC, SWG, Planetside, WoW, GW, CoX, DDO, EVE, Vanguard, TR
    Playing: WAR

Ultima Online 97-2000 was the best times I had in an MMORPG. Also sucked most of my High school years up :)

    EvE -

    Because it lacks elves

Asherons Call - easily the best MMO I have ever played

Lineage 2  - yeah it has its issues (mainly the grind from hell) but it is unmatched in many respects.

Looking back at the last 3 or 4 years of this genre, nothing else except DAoC has really been worth the time investment.

    AC1 followed by Pre-CU SWG.

And one thing I'm curious about. I've heard several people in this thread say that, in essence, they'd give their left nard to play Pre-Trammel UO again. Why don't you just go play on a private (emulated) server? There are several good ones aren't there?

Ya there are plenty of classic private shards.. In all honesty they probably have more people playing them than on the official shards. Anyways I have played on a classic shard from time to time. I dont think I would go back to UO, I mean it is 10 years old now. And the thread was what was your favorite MMO ever. Thats the answer a lot of people will say who was there back then.

The reason reason Pre-Trammel or Pre UOR is talked about so much, was the all out freedom in the game. It has pretty much set the restrictions seen on all of todays games. Some loved it some hated it. But one thing was for sure, if you wanted to live long, you hunted with a group, not because you where forced to like a lot of todays games.

I dont want to back to old UO. But I would like to see a new game built similiar to the rulebase of old UO.

Asheron's Call 1 for sure, might go back if AOC doesn't do as well as planned.
