Wow, some folks certainly are taking the MMOWTF awards seriously. Dan was just trying to provide variety in his own awards. I honestly don't see the problem. Dan went way out of his way to acknowledge the SWG hate, but in the end the MMOWTF awards, which are based I remind you, on a tongue-in-cheek editorial column, are just for fun. There is a reason that these awards don't have badges or even polls as do our sanctioned awards. Once again, the MMOWTF awards are just meant to put a smile on people's faces.

You can also just use proper statistical analysis when developing your survey. Just weight certain answers differently, like SWG and Vanguard that disappointed a lot of people and would get a higher number of votes out of anger instead of being objective. Then apply the formulas and bingo. For the most part I think you results sound reasonable although there might be some other games out there that are more deserving of these awards than Vanguard.
This is different from most mmo's as its a licence taken from another company on an existing franchise or world like Star Wars, Star Trek, Stargate, Lord of the Rings, Conan, Dungeons and Dragons, Transformers, Robotech, Knight Rider, Buck Rogers, The Six Million Dollar Man, G.I. Joe, Gunsmoke, Gilligan's Island, etc. etc. etc.
MMO's with in house ownership and development that come from original ideas are not IP's. WOW and EQ would be examples of those.

I'm really surprised Hellgate London didn't win even more awards - after seeing what former key members of Blizzard did with the Guild Wars franchise, I couldn't wait to see what the Flagship team would do. After all, ArenaNet never set out to make a true MMOG, but certainly that seemed like Flagship's true goal with Hellgate. Diablo set in post-apocalyptic/cyber-punk London with cool classes and really big swords/guns? Seriously, how could the final game be catastrophically retarded? As much as I'm not a SWG fan, I'd say HGL really takes the murloc fruit cake this year.
Well, having never played SWG pre-NGE I guess I escaped the plague of brain worms causing all this wrath. My personal favorite as anyone can guess...LOTRO for worst IP...I can't get over everyone trying to say that by having the restrictions Turbine does with the license that it makes it a better game...THAT is a hoot! Asheron's Call has some of the most rich, deep and well written lore EVER for an origional MMO. EQ/EQ2...Warcraft (stradegy or mmo) EvE ect dont even come close to the lore in AC. Unfortunatly since AC was never really advertised most people never played it. I am enjoying LOTRO atm but even I will admit, its just a time filler untill the new releases of 08 start to hit the shelves. That doesnt mean Turbine never got it right, they did once.
I think the entire industry got a black eye this year. Besides Lotro, there was not one decent MMO released this year.

It also shows you didn't even read the part you claimed to have read correctly. First, WoW and PotBS were tied for the win for worst graphics. Astonishingly, this was from the voters counts, not Dans' opinion. In fact, Dan states he picked Roma Victor.

But I must say I deeply resent the Darkfall comment.... (but I completely understand it....
And as for the WoW vote, I agree to some degree, but it is a good to make a game low end machines can play. It is also intellegent to make it a unique style like that so that it wont "go out of style" it doesn't get outdated like realistic graphics, because it isn't meant to be realistic.
I don't get the votes for POTBS as worst graphics. What the hell? Did the voting public just look at old screenshots? The graphics in the open sea and in battles are beautiful. The towns are very nicely rendered, and Tortugas is one of the neatest looking cities I've ever seen in any MMO. Avatars are average, but it's still getting tweaked. I'm just astounded anyone would call the graphics "the worst" considering all the other stuff out there.
And for Christ's sake people, understand that saying "SWG is the worst all time" is not throwing away votes!!!! Get some common sense in your head!
