It's starting to look really good. I'm sure it will be much more intense in final release when people are actually going to war instead of just testing.

YouTube doesn't do it justice. Here's a better resolution of it: mythicmktg.fileburst.com/war/us/media/flash/2008-01_VotM.html
Looks like WoW. I'm not saying it won't be great, but it looks just like WoW.
I don't know why people keep saying that. I think the people who have ONLY played WoW thinks it looks like WoW. In truth, it looks more like Daoc than anything (with MUCH BETTER graphics.. which is the way I like it).

Actally... seeing as it's techcially the only Warhammer fantasy game that has caught the attaintion of the mass market (seeing as Warhammer games are 'mostly' 40K based) and seeing as you can't turn a coner these days without seeing somthing Warcraft related, anyone not firmillar with Warhammer Fantasy will assume it looks 'WoW-ish'..
To those who know Warhammer Fantasy... it looks 'Warhammer-ish'
Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!
I know why it looks like Daoc!
It's because everyone's standing still when they fight!
(explained why in the other video though lol)
Edit: As an addition, I just can't look at that video and say "Damn, that looks good!" I think the characters look horrible, or at least in that video. The scenery is usually pretty sweet though.
Then again I'm someone who looks at EQ2 and Vanguard and think it looks horrible yet others always seem to disagree on that too :S
I'm just not much for technical beauty I guess
We beta testers will know for sure how it plays out in a few days from now. You can't really judge the gameplay on a 1 minute video. This video is more about the overall look & feel graphics-wise of RvR than anything. The biggest thing for me is that it doesn't look as cartoony as WoW. I absolutely hated that about WoW.

Purely understandable and subjective ^^
Still, until that veil drops noone else will know and I certainly won't take your word for more in a few days because you say you will be in beta
And not until a few months after the game is out will anyone know if the game has any longterm hold to be honest.
I personally don't doubt it'll be off to a shooting start, it's after that when people realize what they bought that's gonna be the kicker. (depending on how good or bad the game is naturally)
Depending on how polished the game is in beta, it may be a good indication of final product. The fact that they held things off to polish them better in the first place seems to be a good start (I hope)....I'm truly hoping they learned from the goods and bads of DAOC and came up with great product this time around.
With that said, I think RVR is going to be one of the big high-points of WAR. If they create reasons for end-game PVE as well the combination may be a win over WOW.
/rant
This game is really starting to form into its mold nicely. Thank god they postponed the release date to polish it, if they didn't then most people would not be looking at it as much as they are now.
Playing: Nada.
Played: WAR, LOTRO, EVE, WoW, EQ2, SWG, STO
Waiting: TOR

Well, unlike a certain FUNCOM, Mythic doesn't have a track record of failures when it comes to MMOs. That's why, unlike some WoW fanbois out there and other overly negative folks, I'm pretty positive about the eventual outcome.
If anything, those hyping up Age of Conan need to be more worried..
Both WAR and AoC look like they are both turning into great games, but I agree AoC has me more worried than WAR. I've been kind of loosing interest in AoC and looking more in WAR, it looks much more promising, and the PvP looks pretty good. But there needs to be more movement, does look like they're just standing there...

You're right, Mythic has a reputation for putting out a *great* game and then ruining it more with every next step they made, which to me just showed they never had a clue what it actually was that made their initial game great to begin with.
I enjoyed my 3 years in Daoc but I hold no illusions that Mythic was somehow a good developer, because I think they weren't, not for a running game at least.
They might prove me wrong int he future but I'm not holding my breath just yet.
"I know why it looks like Daoc!

Ok, I've never gotten this whole "standing still" charge. Especially coming from WoW fanatics since that game pretty much has the same "problem." If you're talking about how the character just sorta stands there before swinging or casting, that's called a timer. Otherwise, people would be insta casting and swinging no matter how powerful the weapon or spell. There would be nothing to distinguish the agility of a rogue vs. a warrior, etc.
The rogues in WoW may be able to do some chop suey with their daggers, but the warriors are much slower and there's a lot of "standing still waiting for each swing" action going on.
Yeah, but you can still move around. I understand the timer thing about the swings, but you can still run around and try to confuse your target (pvp only obviously). The characters in this movie are literally just standing there lol. I'm sure it just because it is an example movie or beta whatever. The game is looking good anyways, so it's all good.

It sounds to me like SOMEBODY (the WoW fanboi shall remain nameless) had a beef with Mythic concerning *insert overpowered class here* being nerfed. I agree that they need to pay much more attention to balancing the classes early on so that overpowered classes and future nerfs can be avoided, but that doesn't make them a "bad developer" by a long stretch. EVERY mmo has had balancing issues.
As a Warhammer tabletop gamer, I have to say, that didn't look so hot.
It REALLY looked like WoW. We all know WoW is a ripoff of Warhammer, but Mythic has gone out of their way to make Warhammer look like WoW. Some of the idle animations are WoW-ish, the low poly characters and weapons.....geesh.
I've defended this game time and again, but that video took some of the wind out of my sails.

Sounds like someone has his nose too far up my bum again and is drawing the wrong conclusions. My arguments have *nothing* whatsoever to do with classes being nerfed. I'm an altoholic, i never have just one class so I can easily live with some nerfs getting tossed around.
But nice try, maybe next time you'll hit upon a real argument to debase my opinion
From the video I thought the game looked more than good enough, but really its the gameplay and underlying systems that will make or break it. Hopefully this or AoC pans out.

I know this is an A,B conversation, but I had to but in. I'm guessing you were talking about the trials of Atlantis expansion, among other things?
Either way I've played DAoC and I've worked for GW retail (and I left amicably). That said, I'm going to play AoC. AoC just seems to offer alot more PvE side plus the PvP than WAR. I prefer some PvP, but I don't want that to be 95% of an MMO I'm playing. If I want that much PvP I'll jump into COD4 for a few hours. Plus, I prefer AoC's visuals to WAR's. For instance, I have yet to see a WAR movie where the character model's hair swayed in realistic fashion. That's not a knock, just a fact, for me. I prefer that kinda look .
I hope both games see success, AoC because that's where I'll be, and WAR b/c it will allow GW that extra capital to develope their others areas such as their tabletop interests, which I still play.

I understand people are getting tired of the "looks like WoW" comments but...
It looks like a more bland version of WoW (graphically). Where's the color? I understand it's just a flash and some of the quality is lost but I am not truly wowed (lol, get it?) by anything in the video.
I am unimpressed and I remain unconvinced that this will be a legitimate contender with World of Warcraft and Age of Conan.
I agree that AoC has some pretty awesome visuals (the only problem I have with it is the way they run). But they are almost guaranteed to run into a brick wall of LAG when it comes to massive warfare. I'd rather have WAR gameplay and graphics and a whole lot less lag than "hair waving in the breeze."
{Mod Edit}

Hmm, we'll have to wait and see. They already admitted to testing hundreds fighting against each other in the Border Kingdoms without any severe issues. They even identified that having NPC in those areas was a cause for some lag, and have all but removed NPCs to improve performance. I don't think it'll be any different than any other game, though I know when I did some PvP in DAoC a few months after launch it was a lag fest sometimes. Mythic adapted, and I see no reason Funcom won't do the same, should it be too laggy.

Maybe, maybe not, depends on the type of system you have and how you can deal with the graphical lag - the latency shouldn't be an issue. I'd rather play something with slight graphical lag now and again rather than play something that runs smooth, has been done before, and looks like a snoozefest.

I don't know. I'll have to see it before I believe it. Major Lag problems & gameplay tends to be Funcom's Achilles Heel. They've always been awesome with the graphics.. even with Anarchy Online. But when you get MASSIVE lag in the cities and the gameplay leaves much to be desired, you lose interest pretty quick. It's kinda like those big budget action packed movies with awesome special effects that lack in the STORY department. You can throw all the top of the line, top dollar special effects you want at it, but it still doesn't save the picture if it's not a well written, well acted, well directed movie.

Lag is all of our enemy, gamers and devs, which we all know. It happens in all games. I'm not going to say it won't happen in AoC, b/c that would be lying. It'll happen there and it'll happen in WAR. Funcom, though, in my opinion has extra incentive to tackle it to make their PvP fun as from what I've been hearing they, as a company, need AoC to be a success. I think this is in part why the game launch was moved from 3.25.08 to 5.20.08. What dev is going to turn down a few more weeks to get more and more polish and fine tune before launch? A silly one, that's who, and I belive that Funcom knows it doesn't have time/room to be silly. So, when they say they've played with 100 testers PvPing at a BattleKeep, I'm inclined to believe them. Now, as we know, not everyone has the same game rig and internet connections, so some gamers will indeed get lag with that many characters on screen. But if your system meets/exceeds the reccommended box stats, and you have a cable connection or better, then hopefully you will only experience a very tiny amount of server side lag.
