    Is it _really_ that different?

    ABSOLUTELY.

Guard Tember is sending you into a finely crafted environment map, complete with secret doors, traps, treasure chests, etc.  He's not saying "Go to Kobold Island, walk around waiting for stuff to spawn, and kill it".

oh, and P.S. "The Chief only spawns once every 2 hours, so I hope you're the first guy to click on him" LOL!

I would argue that the "World" in WoW is most definitely a finely crafted environment map, and IMO either one of the WoW continents is significantly larger than all the city areas, dungeons, and outdoor areas in DDO combined.

I grant you that there are no traps or secret doors in WoW that I've seen.   They do have chests randomly sprinkled about, some are even locked.    Actually I have seen an occasional trap where mobs will spawn if you open a chest, but you don't have the option of disarming it with a rogue like you do in DDO.

I've never had anything take 2 hours to spawn.    5 to 10 minutes yes, sometimes you have to wait for someone ahead of you, so 20 minutes tops.      But yes that is a downside of non-instanced quests.

Well Ridd, the problem lies when you have a dozen quests all within the same "finally crafted world map".  If I ran all the quests from 1-3 level in the same adventure zone, and each one was "kill 10 kobolds"..."now kill 10 kobold shamans"...etc., I would consider it not finely crafted at all.

Well you did say "finely crafted environment map" and  as far as I'm concerned the whole world in WoW is quite well done and quite fun to go exploring in and killing random mobs and horde players.

But yes, I don't disagree with you that most WoW quests don't have a whole lot to them.   e.g. "Go deliver this package to <x> over in <y>".    Oh wait, TR 5 had that.

I don't actually mind the "go kill 10 kobolds" quests.    Again I think those are very DDO-like in that in the end with most DDO quests you are just going into to "go kill 10 kobolds" whether it is in the sewer, basement of an inn, or whatever.   It's just  not a big difference, and you have a finite and easily achieved goal.   I like that.

The annoying quests in WoW are the ones that say go kill kobolds until you find the one kobold who randomly drops khyber's eye.    I do appreciate that DDO has generally not stooped to that level, although the necro/vale quests to fill the frames is treading on thin ice there.   Left wing, right wing, yada yada... I don't even have my necro frames done on any of my characters.

Please Vincenz tell me where this Chief spawns! I looked on DDO Wiki and it mentioned no chief. I searched on DDO forums and could not find anything. What's the story behind this Chief?

LOL...no chief spawn Seven, I was comparing a quest to WoW where you have to sit around and wait and hope for a unique spawn ;)

There are secrets in a lot of quests that people miss though, for example there's an Arcane Skeleton with a locked chest in Sewer Rescue if you look hard enough
