I, right now, will say that I firmly believe that a number (not all, but some) of the most vocal and voracious fanboi trollers here ARE on the SOE or LEC payrolls.  It's the only way that the activities of some make any sense.
There, the accusation is out in the open.
Why the hell not, SOE has accused me in the past of being on the payroll of their competition (the "cabal").

Thats fine, hide behind the "ZOMG! you're a fanboi" routine.

Lets think about this. If I were suckling from the soe teat, (getting paid by soe to be a fanboi here) why would I choose these forums? Its obvious the "haters" are the loudest majority. I mean hey, I'm not the fanboi posting threads like "Define how happy SWG makes you!"

No... we have plenty of "haters" posting their own threads about how they'd define SWG.

Read my post again. I post here because I want the right to rate games. I'm not here to change anyone's opinion. I too boycotted the game and canceled my accounts for a while, and whole heartedly support those that do the same. As with most things in life, money talks and sometimes, it talks the loudest. Get on with your bad self, give soe the finger and don't pay for the game. Woo! Grats!

I just want to point out that I'm having fun, and I'd like to understand what it is that makes you guys still so angry.

Don't worry salvaje, I still like you.

    **Returned SWG Player**
Yeah, I used to hate the game because of NGE as much as anyone, but I've been playing the game since Feb. 2008 and have honestly had a good time. If you hate the game, fantastic, move along. Its all been said before and your continuous griefing just makes you look like a sad individual with nothing better to do.

This is one of the fanboi tricks that are tried from time to time to somehow disqualify us from saying anything about the NGE.  It goes like this:
"Ok, you don't play the game, so you can't comment on it"
Then evolves to:  "AHA!  GOTCHA!  You PLAY the game, you hypocrite!"
This line of argument= FAIL.  Almost all of us practically get spammed with free trials on our own accounts, and any of us can use the regular 14 day trial at any time to check the game out.  So we can stay current in being able to critique the "great" work of this Dev team without paying SOE a red cent.

Thats all good and well salvaje, but it raises a greater question. If you hate the game so much, why do you still invest your time in it? I mean, you're obviously spending a decent amount of time with each free trial to check out each new publish.

To truly evaluate a new publish and its new instances (for example) that means you've taken the time to do the pre-req quests and then run each new instance. So lets see, thats about 2 hours per each pre-requisite quest, and an average of 2-4 hours per instance. Thats quite alot of time you must be investing to do each instance (2*4+4*3 = 20 hours, give or take).

So that makes me wonder: if you hate the game so much, why are you still investing your time and energy in it? Ok, fantastic, I'm glad you're not wasting your hard earned dollars, but its still quite an investment from you if you know the each publish as well as you claim to.

So really, my point doesn't change and your argument is still invalid.

You're either still investing lots of time in it (as a non-paying returning veteran) or your logic = FAIL. Which is it?

Mmmmm Salvaje, he has a point here I think, your sig states you will never return while there is NGE ,but you keep checking to see if the NGE is getting better ? ........ please explain,my grey matter is'nt what it used to be so I would like know your logic...

What he does is what I do every now and then.  He pops in to see how the game is for a little spark of nostalgia and finds out that the trainwreck is still in progress.  Yes, we do spend a lot of time talking about the game that we used to play.  I guess it's cause it was trashed so suddenly (June 2003? to November 2005).  Other games fade out of mind eventually, but SWG didn't get that chance.  SOE burned it out too soon which leaves us wanting closure, if that makes sense.

SWG is dead.  I don't mean that in the sense that there's nobody playing it (although there is a remarkably noticeable population problem they're having), I mean the magic that the game used to have.  Whenever I logged in, I felt like I was really in the Star Wars universe.  It's really sad when I log into the game with the same name and find that it's just a shell, just a game and not a world anymore.  Immersion, customization and community were all intertwined making it perfect for me.  Made it perfect for a great many people.

Despite your opinions, the game is doing alright.  The wow-clone stuff makes it get new people all the time, the majority of mmo players who are the ones who actually like wow-clone style games.

It'd be nice if it was still pre-nge and all that.. sure.  But a lot of people around here act in the same way as say.. a child who got his favorite toy taken away and cries foul about everything and anything that is not that specific toy.  Tampertantrum and all.  And we the general population on mmorpg.com get to hear all about it every time one of these swg vet posts gets plastered on the front page.

And don't bother calling me a fanboi, i am not a wow-clone liking person, and didn't play swg:nge for more than a few months while waiting for other things to come out.  As far as an mmo goes, it does alright, it has decent story, decent play, decent crafting, decent amount of people, and what other mmo out there besides jumpgate (with its 6-7 people online or so) that has twitch based flight sim space combat? That was fun. To limited in scope for me.. but fun.

Not my kind of game, but alive and kicking still.

Is it possible many of the vets here that cry foul about it and soe (and you better not own any sony electronic products either.. sony online entertainment is soe) and have not actually bothered to look at the game? Yes.  More than likely.. human nature is such that once someone has a grievance against something, no amount of rational thought or argumentation will convince them otherwise. There is also the fact that a lot the hardcore mmo player types are also the same types of people that I am, in that once I make my mind up about something, everyone else's opinion is trash n00b crap.  (Well it was.. i got older and wiser.  Go me)

Is it possible many vets went back to the game to give it a try and actually enjoyed it? Of course it is.  They were there when I played.

Is the game utter trash?  Absolutely not.  It is better than a large portion of mmos currently out there on the market, reguardless of it being dumbed down wow-clonish.  Again: just because a small segment of the mmo crowd who likes more hardcore complex games don't like a particular game, doesn't make that game any less valid for the rest of the players out there.

And lastly.. why the heck am i wasting time posting all this anyway? None of you will give a flying crap about anything anyone has to say that doesn't fit your opinion.  Nor will most of you even read more than the first 2 lines of this post.

Not necessarily.  If you think about it for a while, considering that he does what most of us do, doing the trial/resubbing for a month.  We don't stay, so technically we aren't back.  When I think about 'coming back' I think more of permanent residence, not temporary stays like most of us do.  Might just be me thinking that though.  Anyway, I can't refute anyones opinions unless they are outright wrong and I'm aware of it...lol

lol you guys ! ya really crack me up sometimes , Talk about an answer for everything

  • Asmiroth20Asmiroth20 Member Posts: 346

What do you mean 'you guys'?  If that means SWG veteran, ok.  People may have a common denominator (the truth that the NGE basically killed SWG), but aside from that most of us have different views on different factors.  Some believe the game should shut down, some want classic servers and some want another Star Wars MMO.  Sure some of people's wants in even those things are different.

But if 'you guys' is a form of trying to invalidate what I'm saying, then just think in a more logical sense and it will let you see that we aren't all the same.  When people are upset sometimes they are more extremist than others, but it doesn't make their feelings less valid than a person who calmly states their grievances.  I'm more of a think things through kind of person.  The only thing that I'm interested in is truths and morals.  So it's only natural that the NGE rubs me the wrong way.

        Cheers.

I kinda just assumed it meant never pay for it.

I think it's great that people take advantage of their free trials. It certainly helps me to reafirm that I made the right decision to not support this game.

Funny thing is whenever I begin to get a little curious how the game is going I get an email notifing me of a free trial. SoE saved me money - and I really appreciate that as beer isn't cheap :)

    $ logging into a trial to SOE= $0

I occasionally (maybe once every couple months) will log into a trial just to see if the population of Bloodfin has gone up or down.  It's down.

Also, I do this so as to NOT be ignorant of how the game currently is which allows me to continue to blow the arguments of fanbois out of the water.

Which is why you guys keep wanting to hang some sort of "hypocrite" label on me, because I am the one guy you can't refute and it bugs the shit out of you.

I won't say it's bad now but I'll say it's barely the shadow of what it once was.

Call me nostalgic or naive but after a while, I'll go back... just in case

You "swg/soe haters" must be one of the most pathetic things I've witnessed on any forums.

I played swg from the start and you know what, it was never good to begin with. Guess what, I quit and looked for a game I did enjoy, that's what normal people do, sane people.

What I didn't do though; I didn't spend my time complaining and spew crap on various forums, or start websites or blogged about how much I hate SOE or SWG. That's just sad.

MMORPG.com really should clean these forums up once and for all. I am not a regular on these forums, I come here for news and sometimes check for an interesting topics. It's just that the forums is cluttered with these people who really don't contribute to anything more than aggravating people.

They really need to start banning people.

    Current State:

    1) Economy is completely beyond repair.

    2) Expertise trees were well done. But added grinds and gear did nothing for PvP in this game (SEAs, nerfing certain SEAs, GCW Buffs, Heroic Encounter items and rewards, Restuss, all major grinds, etc) have made what was once a close platform for PvP reduced once again to mediocrity.

    3) For new players: You have a long grind to 90. Before you pat yourself on the back, you have twice that to do for credits and gear.

    4) I don't care if it's star wars. This platform made SW no longer matter.

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside

    Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.

PLEASE DIE IS THE STATE OF THE GAME

Die so we can get a new Star Wars MMORPG for the love of god. SOE is milking this cow to the last f$%@ing drop............Jesus!!!!!!!!

However,  gotta love the people who get pissed about people who want to vent their frustration at a a company that royaly screwed them out of some the best times on the PC ever. I feel bad for you peeps who never played or played and started in 05 or late 04 you think you know but don't.  In my opinion one of the most messed up bugged riddle funniest challenging interactive games to date is SWG.  THOSE WHO ARE CLAIMING VET STATUS 6 Months before NGE OF 05 are NO F$%CKiING Vets.  The real VETS do not post a lot anymore. They have moved on etc.........the ones who are here who post as pre-cu vets  are the loyal die hard, I salute you to end mofos supporting a game to the  end something I can't and did not do.

Hate to rain on your parade, but Mmorpg.com ban a SWG / SOE hater ?  its never going to happen ... these people are helping keep this forum going. And the only people they ban are people that say anything to upset  SWG Vets. after all Mmorpg.com would'nt want to lose 200,000 member now would they !

Ps " This post is meant a little light hearted fun" ...... Just in case you you want to ban me for that is !

I agree with this.  Except that the way mmorpg.com is set up, all your posts in this forum get plastered on the front page every time someone posts anything.  Perhaps they should take these nostalgia forums off that auto-refresh recent post list so that you guys can go ahead and moan about the good old days without the rest of us having to wade through your posts to get to anything decent or relevant about swg.

    Nice try.

Memories..SWG pre-cu was the best time i have ever spent in a mmorpg. The best community I ever seen. That's all gone..and hell yes..it is gone..But we sometimes go back for the memories..

As to why we still bitch and moan..SOE took that away from us..that and the 4,000+ hours of time invested in my char.Which was eliminated from the game...after spending $30 for an expancion..and to get no refund...they only refunded to pre-orders..not someone that was at the store when it opened to but it..and they only exchanged for the same title.

If you can't handle the raves and rants of the Vet's..KISS OLE RUSTY and move the hell along.

Sickened... and offended, to see what was once such a glorious and aweomse game, the way it is now... and to have thought when it came out it would wind up in such a sate... dying miserably... and begging for its end... would have been unconcievable...
