Yesterday, I reinstalled the game. Last night, at 9:30 EST, I logged in to Corbantis. I found myself on Tatooine and I spent the next 3 hours going from starter town to starter town and even hit up some of my old favorite PvP spots. I hit up every watering hole I could think of. Subtracting the entertainers doing their thing, I managed to see a whole 5 blue dots than myself.
Obraik, I ask you what server you are on and what time you notice this huge population that has returned? Corbantis is officially dead.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

Congratulations you have mastered...
Can't counter an argument with a valid discussion point? Fishermage(aka Fisherprice) recommends you cut and paste: ad hominem
"You will come to the conclusion that the only people crazier than the managers who thought this a good idea are those who put up with it and pay for it." - Salvaje (who paid to play the NGE for 18 months) /golfclap
The 3 busy Servers in the US are Starsider, Bloodfin, and Bria lots of people on these servers.
You can transfer or create a new toon I created anew toons on all 3 of these, I like Starsider the best good people less lag.
Ajax
I won't argue the "good people" part but I played Starsider the day it was born up until this last "free trial".
I will not be able to agree that its "populated".
Altho it could be more populated than the other US servers (besides the two you mention).
I can sell stuff easily if I put it up for sale... but it makes me feel like I am going to be violently ill every time I log into the game.
Mostly due to all the places that are empty... half of a dead city here.. half there.. because large parts got missed in the pack-up somehow. Its like the end of that Hoosiers movie...
You see this big empty gym... no one on the court.. dust bunnies in the air.. but you can hear the voices of those who were there.
makes me sad.

StarSider has grown to the point its starting to get chat lag just like Bira and Bloodfin.
The game is growing on the populated servers while the others servers are drying up.
I'm sorry your sad but A lot of us are having fun.
So stop posting false information please!

LOL the target audience.................................Its only false if no one believes it............................................................
Wish i had that dancing banana to past here.....................................................
For you ...................................................................
Basic logic suggests that the "populated" servers are not growing per se....but that the dead servers are transferring to them. Just as many others have done.
You could very well be having fun, and I applaud the fact you are. But, factually, the game is a sinking ship where everyone is rushing to the last floating piece of wreckage still adrift. I hope, for your sake, that those three pieces are enough to warrant keeping the game running. I can't say I've seen any other p2p model that could run on three servers though. Perhaps the Station Pass will keep it kicking. Who knows?
I sure don't. Don't particularly care either, though I'm sure you do. You aught to push for in game advertising, it would help them cover costs and keep your three servers running longer. I imagine that, left to the current devices they have, that it will inevitably implode all over itself. I mean....chat lag? For gods sake...just how trashy is the hardware they run with over there? I see games with an easy 6-15K active players on a server that do not suffer chat lag like that. If anything, SWG should have the least lag of any game currently running.

Not trying to agrue with anyone but I recently started the free trial and rolled on Bloodfin and it was llike a ghost town in the lowbie areas. This disapointed me becuase I actually enjoyed my time in the game. Not having played before the big fiasco i have no prejudices against the game and would gladly play if I thought grouping and pvp would even be viable.
p.s. Didnt mean to hit the quote button was just replying to the topic at hand. doh!
No signature, I don't have a pen
I'm on Chilastra. Do remember that ever since the CU there's been only the one starter city, Mos Eisley.
Ah, a fellow Corbantisian. The last time I actually logged into Corbantis was last December and I can say that the NGE wrecked the server. Here are things that I noted on my return.
1. Corbantis (once one of the big servers) had 1/4 the population that Pre CU had and about 1/3 of what even CU had.
2. NPC's were still shooting through walls and running at incredible rates in crazy inhuman ways. I sure don't remember getting shot through walls before NGE and the only way NPC's could run that fast back then was burst run. So it's broken now.
3. Buffs are even more ridiculous then they were in Pre CU. Two rows of buffs is just dumb. A flawed buff system.
4. The speed of combat is insane. I wouldn't even be upset for that if the combat system itself wasn't so borked up. Sure combat back then was kind of slow, but the battles seemed to have more meaning with such struggles and strifes of time in combat. The speed and combat system accompanied by the targeting system makes for a very uncomfortable and frustrating experience.
5. Some of the movement (walking and mounts) looks unsmoothe and unpleasing to the eye where as in the older systems the movement was beautiful, realistic and it made sense.
6. Targeting system is pure crap, especially if you're a medic. The old targeting system was way better.
Some parts of what I just said may be opinion, but this is how I think of the game now. To me the NGE is broken more than Pre CU was. Shannia, I'd be lying if I said that the game isn't a shell of what it once was. Poor old Corbantis. Poor old SWG.
Banger Oda - TKM/MSM/Med (Pre CU)
Asmiroth - Carb/MCM/NDoc (CU)
It's a shame people forget that.
It's a shame people forget that.
Funny thing is, I played my first two months of pre-CU without buffs and had nearly made it to MBH. I rarely left Tatooine and the only thing I needed to finish was the investigation line, but I had no clue how. I remeber traveling to Corellia the first time and I ended up in Tyrena and I thought, why does everyone say there are loads of people here? There was maybe twenty or thirty people there, nothing like Eisley and Bestine.
Eventually I figured out to go to Coronet and I found out what buffs were. Then the great naff hunts began and finally on to Dantooine for pickets. Those first few months of SW:G were the best. I just wish I could recapture that feeling again...
I know bloodfin, bria, ahazi, and chilastra have a fairly high server pop, but beyond that I don't really know many others.
Of course the point being missed here is that Corbantis and all those other servers had viable populations before the NGE.
So I ask what caused those populations to so dramatically decline in such a short period of time?
The answer of course is the NGE.
What would logically be the answer to reversing this trend?
Getting rid of the NGE, of course.
What are the devs working on?
Everything except that.
Which is why there is only one word to describe ALL the efforts of the past 2 years of the dev team: Fail
At any rate, we have yet another in a long line of examples of a vet returning to the game, being snookered into it by the fanbois, and finding out that everything we have been saying about it is correct and everything the fanbois have been saying lies. Which is why I continue to advise the fanbois to FORGET the veterans, your only hope is to somehow find that "target audience" the NGE was built for. We aren't coming back. See my sig.
It's a shame people forget that.
I think I was playing for 3, maybe 4, months before I found out about doc buffs. Even after that, most of the time "buffs" for me meant one slug each of Vasarian Brandy and Accaragm. Doc buffs were only for seriously dangerous activities, like soloing those "Hero of Tatooine" caves or harvesting Dathomir Avian Meat (I was a jack-of-all-trades, not a combat specialist) or Phase 4 battles at the Village.
Obraik, you and Krenn'sa are cool peeps. I returned on a trial because I did love the game at one time and played way too many hours. I wanted to recapture the feeling I had then but the nge has made the game a barren wasteland not like the community it once was. The game needs some serious graphical, ui, and gameplay mechanic updates or combination of a rollback and updates even then I don't think that's going to help.
Logged in to find friends list all offline not really a surprise but hey. Continued on from planet to planet, cantina to cantina, old hangouts to old hangouts and guess what? Empty. I have 12 days left on my trial but this game really is a shell of it's former self and it's sad.
Good luck to those that still enjoy it and hope to see you in the next!
Even in its prime there were servers that were far and few between when it came to people. They fell into the lets constantly make servers for new people, and never understood their population caps then never merged servers after their failed experiment and let them be.
While everyone carries on about nge this or that, at this point the game has been NGE longer than any other time period CU, or PRE-CU. Hell the game truly changed when they introduced Jedi and removed permadeath. People who moan and whine now just need to get a life and go find another MMo. Trolling is one thing, but at this point its stalking, and its kind of getting creepy.

Not trolling just joined the forums and wanted to state my findings on the state of the game on Chilastra at least, it's true. But for those that like non-community-empty servers that's fine and dandy.
I'm sick of everyone telling us to just take it and go somewhere else. The matter of the fact is if you went into Home Depot and as soon as you walked into the store and the manager kicks you out the door, how the hell would you feel. Enraged right? Ready to sue the company, ready to boycott Home Depot, ready to make it your life goal to see the company suffer. It's no difference for us then the example I just gave. The game completely changed and shoved it down our throat, if you don't like it leave. So we didn't like it and we left and now we still putting our picket signs in the air. Until SOE falls or SWG dies you won't hear the end of us.
It's so easy for someone to say pff w/e get over it when it hasn't happened to you. I'll come over there take your car/truck/suv/4-wheeler/motorcycle/snow mobile/golf cart/lawn mower/weed eater/garden tiller/tractor/farm equipment/bus/semi think I got em all and then tell you to get over it. Not going to fly is it? Exactly.
Anyway, Valcyn was dead when I jumped in the vet trial to check the state of the game, Bria was dead other then spammers in Mos Eisley not at peak hours but still a time when tons of people were on when it was before the NGE, unless if everyone was hovering in space, there wasn't anything.
My last input is simply this if you want to play with the devil, go for it, but don't come crying to me when they the shove their horns up your arse. They did it once, they will do it again.
Actually they did it twice, but I agree it will happen again. It has to or..............
Well CURB I could live with, NGE changed it forever.
Welcome to the forums btw Dra-kul
Tonight was your first night back?
Not that im agreeing or disagreeing, but he seems to be comparing a product to a product. Not something that occured inside the game specifically to something in the real world. Soe ruined a product that people loved...and people got upset. He seems to be saying "you'd be upset too if a product you have is ruined", so saying "get over it" only works if you could care less that any product, whatever it is, a game a car, ect.. you enjoy could be ruined. I dont see how thats comparing real life with a virtual damn game.
See you in the dream..
The Fires from heaven, now as cold as ice. A rapid ascension tolls a heavy price.
Well for sure you did not logon to Bria as it is the most populated server lies, lies!
Ajax
Yes that is exactly how I was comparing it. Thanks for clearing it up.
Next time read between the lines, I clearly stated it was not peak hours, but a time when tons of people were on at one time *cough* Pre-CU. All the evidence I need.
