My God this is amusing if for no other reason than seeing an unreadable wall of text that would make most posters on this site envious.

SWG: the only mmorpg that's more fun *not* to play.

  • ThunderousThunderous Member Posts: 1,152

Wow what a great screenshot of how pathetic that really is...  I bet 1/2 of those are AFK PETS!!!  That really is sad when even the development team knows that SWG isn't fun to play and implements a system for them to level up AFK.

On one hand it's smart...  People PAY them to play AFK.  On the other hand it is truly the sign of a dead game.  Either way it's just sad.

I blew the image up in photoshop and picked through it. Around the outside of that mass of text - you can pick out 8 AFKs. The closer to the blob though - the more impossible it became. So the number of AFK can be no less than 8.

The majority will be AFK, even without the tags up.  Pet macros seem to prevent the auto AFK thing from kicking in.

For those that aren't aware of what's happening in the screenshot, they're using pets to grind levels.  At the moment, when a pet kills something of a level around or higher to its own, the owner of the pet gets full XP.  In addition, the pet only needs to get a hit to get full XP, it doesn't matter if they don't get loot rights - as long as the owner does no damage.  So, naturally, this has been taken advantage of as it is a rather easy and quick way to level - people can go from level 10 to 90 in 3 days with this.

This however, is a flaw and an oversight according to the Devs and is being fixed with the next update so that pets also need to get loot rights on the target to recieve XP.

Events like this have happened in the past.  During the CU, it was pretty common for the Ryatt trail to have multiple groups of grinding Jedi AFK'ing the feral wookiees both due to the quick respawn and because it was safe from being tracked by BH droids (although a BH could go through each trail instance and find you the old fashioned way).

If you played SWG during any period of time, then you've been in the game when something like this was happening ;)

CU yes, NGE yes, Pre-cu, most people spread out if they were grinding since you could steal XP from others. If it was loot camping that's a different story, that's been going on since the first day people figured out macros.

Hehe although the screenshot is funny please realize that SWG has ALWAYS been filled with afk grinding and "bots"

buffing was and always has been a huge source of afk'ers although its hard for the present day entertainers to be afk most of the time in order to get to 90 the same method is used now as was when the game was first released.

AFK buffbots have always existed and I used to use one all the time and they still exist as medic buffbots for the "doctor buffs" or medic buffs for the newcomers

afk grinding for loot is something also very familiar and to be honest when Iturned the game on the fact that there was the usual guy in front of the cantina in moenia grinding the thugs there etc made me smile as SOME things NEVER change

this is one of those game elements that has not changed and never will because of the macro system in place in SWG.

So if your under the illusion that this is a new thing please realize that this is not.  which is why I always also smile when people glorify the past SWG version (i call them versions or games lol because I dont know what else to call em) as the best game that ever was when all those elements of the previous game STILL exist the only thing that has truly changed are things ilke the profession layouts and they took away decay.   Those are the two big things along with removing of experimentation from subcomponents because some items were indeed becoming over powered even I as an ex combat medic from the "previous version" have to admit that being able to throw a poison farther then the supposed hard cap in the game had to go.  (that and the ability to tripple incap but stacking disease with poison.. another wonderful feature that caused no end of problems along with gtef and those things that supposedly made the game "great").

In any event this WAS the game when it was launched and IS the game now afk macros is something that has been done since release if not before in their beta..

So when i see the label fanboi on new players I kinda smile because truly the ultimate fanbois on this board are the vets who want everything back the way it was because it was the greatest game that ever was.  THOSE are the people unable to see through the problems that existed then and some of which still exist now.  Realisticaly looking at it this is one of the last remnants of that system that was "bad" however there was a whole lot of bad that people lived with in the previous version of SWG those elements are gone thank goodness lord knows I hated that triple incap and had to logout once due to it as I was followed to the cloner and had an entire inventory of armour I had only just bought ruined before I even put it on!  Think the game has problems now? It had more problems back then!

Hehe although the screenshot is funny please realize that SWG has ALWAYS been filled with afk grinding and "bots"I'm sorry but in the two years I played the game I *never* once saw a huge group of people afk grinding like that. It's not that people are afk grinding that's the problem...it's how many of them are doing it.

If the game was as enjoyable as the NGE fanbois would like us to believe that many people wouldn't be afk grinding...they would be playing.

Why do you care if someone plays this game? You have posted that the "vets" are never coming back and this game will shortly die off. Is it that you think there can only be one Star Wars MMO and that until SWG is closed another can't take it's place?

Frankly people who get a divorce in most cases would long be over their ex in the time since "the dev's took our game away".

    c'mon!!

I miss the CU and pre CU just as much as anyone.  I still play SWG only because I can't stand fantasy crap and all other sci fi MMO's are just crap themselves.  HOWEVER, don't sit there and act like "omg!!! people are doing stuff AFK!!! the game must really suck now!!!"  because AFKing was PERFECTED during pre cu.  Hell, I learned how to make in game macro's just FOR afk grinding back then.  So if you use this anti AFK bullcrap as an excuse to trash the NGE, then all your doing is trashing pre cu/cu a hell of a lot more.

Oh, your going to get it now.

You are a pre NGE veteran who is still playing the game now.

You sir are even now being considered a traitor and will be jumped on promply. Get your shield up, or whatever it is you use in sci fi games.

there was no afk grinding in pre-cu

we had 20 man groups of atk players who loved and enjoyed the game.

and $OE banned afk grinders back then.

now they let their fanbois and credit farmers do whatever they feel will make them a dollar.

you've got to be joking afk grinding was a huge part of becoming jedi back then and doc AND entertainer.   (one reason i never did jedi..)  There were huge complaints then about it.    As for it being a banning offense it still is but Sony back then and now says the same thing about it.  Most crafting was done with AFK grinding by a large portion of the players..

Again maybe in your world there was none however that IS how bio engineers became bio engineers and docs buffed ROUTINELY using bots while they actively played another account.  Heck when ad barkers came out the ad barker would in your face announce buff bots so any gm could hear and see it.  They didn't do anything more about it then than they do now..   The macros ran in cantinas across the game and no one was in the closet about it.  You were asked to be considerate and tip instead of taking advantage of their buff bot due to the fact that it took materials to make the buff.

People levelling that way in every proff, people ground for loot and money that way.  They did then and they do now.   I dont care what anyone says I saw it then just as badly if not worse then I see it now.  In some cases you can't bot like you could then but in most cases you can bot like you did then.

really you have a problem AFK botting was a fact of life and you know it I have never ever seen someone in denial like you.. you have it bad. really bad and you call others fanbois?  are you kidding? Your the one who is probably the most fanboish on this board.  Everything was rosey and perfect and now suddenly with the same issues its not?  According to your fanboi views there were zero issues pre-cu and the identical issues that exist now that existed then are not there.   Take a look at yourself first because in all honesty you have glorified the past settting to the point where you treat it like some sort of religious experience.

Get some help man.. really you need to do something about your issues..

Sorry man, this was not possible. It was possible to grind items with a single click, but it was not possible to do fully AFK crafting. People tried, it was not possible. Period.

Yes, there were always afk dancers/singers, and much later in the game there were some buff macros (buffhouses), but AFK'ing was NEVER central to Pre-CU gameplay, especially in the early days. Why? Because: 1. The game was fun, and people wanted to PLAY it, not afk it, and 2. Except for the BH experience in the BH prof (and maybe CH at different points), you could master any prof in a week or less, and that included the crafting profs. There was no NEED to afk grind anything.

Once the first jedi came on the scene, there was initially the jedi heal AFK'ing but that was fixed by the devs after they realized people were doing it. There was no further AFK Jedi grinding until the lousy wookie expansion, BH's prevented it.

Bottom line is that people WANTED to play the game back then, not AFK it. And based on the amount of ghost servers, people don't want to AFK this gamenow, either.
