Can someone who uses the term "cookie cutter instance" tell me exactly what that means to you? I get the impression that you are saying each instance is the same except for the skins on the NPC's.
For example the new Exar Kun instance requires the group to adopt many different tactics thoughout the instance to complete it. You can't just DPS everything and hope to have a chance to finish it.
after talking to a friend of mine who is on the inside he told me this much.
the devs know that they will lose most of the player base with the jedi nerf. so they wanted to make it look like they are putting something in that everyone wants. that is why the devs claim hoth is going in and i said claim. my friend even claimed that the devs know hoth would be too much work so that is why if it does go in it will be a cookie cutter instance.
what is funny is go look at the forum posts about it. so far no one wants it in as a cookie cutter instance rather then want it in as a high level pvp planet.
rofl...it's just some concept art. This is just like when they showed the clip of the guild-owned star destroyer that got everybody all worked up. This is the very definition of vaporware.
After reading back Hoth coming in, all I can really remember are the Dev's talking about putting the Guild Made ISD's in the game...
You know I've spent that last few years being in the gray, granted I think the Dev's have screwed up with some things in game. And I feel the Player Base has some of their own faults as well... But well I think it's time to put up or shut up and I have this much to say...
Screw the Dev's and screw SWG.
Rather then fix the game and do it in the way that people want, this is what they have to offer? Hoth? Something that even I myself know is a bad idea to put in as it would be the biggest let down into the game. Are they even going to be moving the timeline up for this?
You Vets are right, this game should be shutdown or have Classic Servers put up.
Since Julio "SWG jacket" and Nancy "cant read too much" were "fired", the new Dev team has proven to be trustworthy.
Did we get good Beast Master? We did. Did we get various collections? We did. Did we get good new instances? We did. Did they learn how JtL works and made new ships and quests? They did. Did they packup old houses? They did and they will again. Did they show us their Dev team, introduce every of them and do players like them? They do.
Will we get Hoth Encounter? Unless SOE fires our Devs, we will. Will we get new LFG system and guild interface? Looks like it. Will we get Droid Commander? Yes.
Oh and about 70% of SWG players prefer PvE (official poll).
Hoth probably will come to the game - don't be dismayed by haters as most havn't played the game in 3 years.
I played a week ago Sam. Where are those screenshots showing us healthy server populations? Still waiting on those...
Hoth isn't coming.
Bria, Bloodfin and Chimaera are known for high populations. 2-3 days old screens from chimaera, just random PvP and random event with GM in Eisley, this is how Chimaera looks every day (except for the giants lol):

your pics in the other post show that the numbers are much smaller then the fanbois claim.
and before i go on @mikemb your still a fanboi please don't act like you are one of us cuz you are not and never will be.
as for your content. people hate bm. people don't like collections. and no one likes the cookiee cutter instances. this dev team is a joke and everyone knows that.
That's exactly my point. 30 people in Rustess, 30 in Mos Eisley... Where are all the other people? I found a total of 3 people on all the planets that weren't in Rustess or Mos Eisley on Bloodfin last week, I found MAYBE 70 people total.
That was on a Friday night, CST.
Thank you for posting screenshots but sadly it only confirms how low the populations are.

"Did we get good Beast Master?" Not really. Its a huge expense in equipment and enzymes. Then after the 3 days of spending millions of creds and experimenting, your pet may end up hating combat or other activities you enjoy making it less effective because its unhappy. Is an insult to what Creature Handler was.
"Did we get various collections?" If you like grinding for weeks and months to find the ultra rare drop you need to finish it. They are a time sink. Nothing more.
"Did we get good new instances?" Another grindfest. Do the same instance over and over and over and over to get tokens. Thats if they dont bug out on you most of the time.

I think the people calling for a return to the pre-CU game are asking for the wrong thing. Considerign that the engine is now five years old and the original code is apparently unsuitable for any realistic, significant improvement, I think we're all better off just leaving SWG, letting it shut down, and putting our hopes into some new form of SWG II -- maybe in whatever Bioware is making, which may or may not be based on Star Wars. All the reforms this game needs just can't be done with the current game's situation.
I say all this because I played SWG from 10 days after launch up until December of 2004, so I never saw all the CU-NGE-expansion stuff....until today. I downloaded the trial because a friend and I are on a bit of a Star wars kick. My characters from 3.5 years ago were still there (even sitting in the same spot I left them), and except for JtL, overall I didn't see much different than when I played. The npcs and missions were still dumb as rocks, there was nobody around on Starsider except for Tatooine, and I just wasn't very impressed (and remember, I didn't really see anything new). My point is, that while I was completely addicted to SWG back then and still remember it with fond memories and nostalgia, it just wasn't a very good game even before the CU and NGE.
Now, almost 5 years and two major debacles later, still seeing bugs unfixed, the AI still terrible, still no GCW, and "revamps" being done over and over (with more promised), I think it's been reasonably established that the game can't be improved in any significant way -- thus my call to let SWG die and hope for a new Star Wars MMO.
Adding Hoth isn't going to change anything. I can see more stupid npcs standing around, more awful missions, no resurgence in population. The core game is just not that great, and is apparently not suitable for improvement. We don't have to play SWG just because we like Star Wars. The sooner we let this game go away, the sooner a new Star Wars game will be made.
I think Hoth is a good thing for current players. I hope it gets pushed through. They do need more artists. Yet I do wish they would release a classic server like EQ has done- another SOE game. One thing is that they will finally do is the Legacy Quests will not be revisited but pointed directions to Kash, the new Meatump Themepark, Musti, etc. I am still wary of Smedley and the constant nerfs of items that take a while to get. Fluff is fluff.
Thinking about it, I can kinda see why it would have to be PvE. With PvE, they can control the outcome and who wins. The approval for Hoth was said to have gone right up to LucasFilm, so I'm sure they need to make sure it's done as expected - Imperials win, Rebels run. If it's done with PvP, then it's quite possible the Rebels could break out and win - or if they're set to lose each time then it's probably not gonna be alot of fun for the Rebels after a while.
Still, it'd be fun to have the Hoth area opened up just as a PvP battleground.

Then again the PVP can be meaningless like it always has been and not have any tie to the story at all.

You know what they mean. When people say cookie cutter mmo.'s. ..Its the same here. If its PVE then its the same every time. If it were pvp and they add atmosheric flight..i mean the real deal..and pilotable AT-AT's that dont look retarded...thats something that is NOT cookie cutter. Thats something that is starwars.
See you in the dream.. The Fires from heaven, now as cold as ice. A rapid ascension tolls a heavy price.
This is the first time they've ever mentioned Hoth being added.
As an official statement, yes. A lot of devs poked their noses into the many Hoth threads going way back though, kicking ideas around likewise at past summits and fanfest events. All just brainstorming and mostly from the playerbase, but then the playerbase has always had better ideas about the direction of the game than the developers anyway.
...The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.

Tecmo Bowl.
Did they ever add in thse ISD's that they had video and everything for like 3 years ago at a fan fest?
http://www.speedtest.net/result/7300033012
Not in the way that was shown in that video. You can board and liberate an ISD as of Chapter 8 though.
What is truly going to happen in "Chapter 11"
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chapter_11
If I am not the only one who made the comparison, apologies in advance. Soon as I saw Chap 11, I couldn't help but think.

Rip
Hoth is an ok idea.
Classic Server is an even better one.
Hoth as PVE is a terrible idea.
On a side note, Iwantmyswg, you sure are a vitriolic little thing aren't you?

There has been dev talk about Hoth since shortly after launch. Nice to see them finally doing something about it. I fear it is to little, too late.
