I bought the Best Buy Preorder and it clearly says Exclusive: Pre order and recieve the Best Buy exclusive in-game war rhino and 3 day early access to the game..doesnt say anything about you might get early access. So i'm sick and tired of people saying we were not promised early access.
Who had the boxes produced for the pre orders..Best Buy or Funcom..
Either way the whole misleading thing is total BS and seems to me Funcom by limiting early access is saying , We cant handle the server load and the game is going to run like s... What are they going to do when this thing goes live for everyone, limit the amount of people that can log on and play each day when the servers cant handle the load?
No one bought 'Early Access' keys, certainly not the OP. They can only be purchased at the registration site and only during the time frame that FunCom made them available. GoGamer, if they called them Early Access keys, were completely off the mark to call them such. The only 'keys' they ever sold were the pre-order keys for the mounts, however they mislabeled them. It would have been nice if FunCom had perused all the promotional materials all the retailers used in selling the AoC bundles, but that didn't happen obviously.

You were not promised early access.
On the back of the Preorder box about 10 lines down: "Your unique code to unlock both items and additional details are inside this box". This means read your card inside the box.
Card says on the bottom: "Some restrictions apply, see registration page for details".
Then you go to the webpage and gives you complete details/restrictions.
Thats all there is to it. I am not sure WHY its so complicated for some.
I posted that elsewhere and reposting it here because people aren't getting it. No where does it say that you are guaranteed early access by purchasing the pre-order box. People ASSUMED that they got the early access and didn't bother to read the details. Sorry thats too bad but we all know what happens when people assume.
but the card is in the box and you cant return opened software! hehe
That's nice and all that yours says taht, however the one I recieved explicitly states " Early Access is a benefit of the pre-order" Nowhere on here does it say that there is "Limited Access" or that you "might" be able to access it. Also, there was no announcement on the website where it says to look "registration page". So yeah, some of us have a right to be pissed.
Wow..i am just dumbfounded by almost this entire thread, reading through OP's original post i see about 15+ tells and weasel words that this is not a promise of EA including instructions to go to the official site for further information.
Mabe i have just been around long enough for this to be obvious to me..idk.

You know, I read the entire thread and came to the conclusion that it was all the users fault until I read the disclaimer text at the bottom of it.
Now, this page comes from Best Buy, so perhaps the error still lies entirely with them. But if Funcom wrote the text at the bottom then yes, they misled their customers.
There is nothing there mentioning the early access was going to be limited. Sure, they threw in a weasel clause, (some restrictions apply, see website for details or something like that) but a significant fact that it would be limited access should have been clearly stated in this first disclaimer.
But again, who's to blame? Right now I'm going to say Funcom appears to have misled folks.

Well, I pre-ordered the day the collector boxes were announced and at that time there was nothing on any website saying that the EA was limited. Not on Funcom's website nor on Gamestop's website. I received my "pre-order code" on 4/25, went to the website and entered it, opted for EA and was granted it with no problems. I only learned much later that the supply was limited. Lucky me, I guess.

True, yet it says "You may begin downloading the game client software and installing as early as May 14th". The word "may" is a not a guarantee, then it goes on to say "Some restrictions apply, see registration page for details". Also after reading this "There is a nominal fee of $5 that covers the cost of the download and includes 10 days of additional game time". After reading that it should've been clear you weren't purchasing early access with your pre order, yes?
Most logical people would've thought "Hmm I may get it and have to pay for it seperately and restrictions apply, I probably don't get it guaranteed now". Even those that didn't check it and didn't get into early access would look back and say "Oh well, I should've looked harder". However we seem to have a plague of biblical proportions, not of locusts but whining punks screaming "Funcom gave me cancer WHHHAAAA!".

That's very bad marketing. If you want to allow peoples to get an early access then dont over produce early access package, just release a set amount and honor those who got the chance to buy it. My brother bought the pack and was planning to play during the weekend, guess what happened ?

What i understood by reading that is that i may ( as in i can but i dont have to ) download the client as early as the 14th, and that some restrictions apply. Now after reading the word restrictions the 1st thing that cam to my mind is the lvl cap of 20. I probably wouldnt bother looking either.
I m not blaming FC or the retailer here, but u cant blame the customer either for not following on a link on the fine print. The vast majority wouldnt.
So people just relax FC didnt scam you out of your money, just be patient and wait for 3 days to play on the official release date.
Of course Funcom is unethical. They are selling an in-game advantage, a 3 day head start, for $5 which is RMT pure and simple. Any developer that engages in any form of RMT is unethical.
oh noes, 3 days of my life wasted! i can't live anymore! noooooooooooooo! *goes jumping off cliff*
Obviously that whole end of the world theory was completely wrong...end of the world starts on May 17...cause ppl couldn't play AoC early. Now they will go out n cause general havoc causing global collapse. Now FC will hafta live with the fact that they caused the end of the World...that will teach em.

OK I'll agree with you on that, however you must agree then when it says you must pay for EA seperatly it's clear you don't have EA guaranteed when you purchased the pre order? If it's a seperate product being sold seperatley then you don't have it until you purchase it, correct?

Fact is, no matter whose fault this is, its going to hurt the game. Personally I think the blame falls somewhere between Funcom and the Retailers. Funcom/Eidos are the ones who came up with this stupid scheme and I have to say, limited early access is a new one on me. It certainly smells like this is some kind of clandestine server load test. Funcom seems to be going for a 100% failure rate concerning product launches. Im sure some of you remember the FIASCO that was the AO launch.
My copy will arrive next week and even though I felt the beta was weak, and the game probably needs another 6 months or so of development, Ill give it another go and see where I end up.

Everyone needs to chill out. The game is coming out in 6 days. It will not kill you to wait 6 days.
Funcom shafted their customers and their retailers! Bad business from a shady company.
I hope they go down in flames for shafting me and others for AO, and for those who got scammed for AoC.

They didn't shaft anyone. There is no such thing as an Early Access key.
