I am leaving WoW to play this game.

Considering GWs doesn't have monthly subscriptions, I will continue playing it on the side.

This is a good point...it almost makes me feel like GW does not really belong here as you never have to "leave" GW

    What does everyone else think?

(PS: My copy of GW is still installed, and I usually start it up once a week to update, and maybe see if any friends are on or run around and kill stuff)

    Here's where I stand...

I don't like WoW, so I haven't even been playing TO leave it... but I do have a lifetime subscription to LOTRO.  However, over the months, LOTRO has just pretty much bored me to tears despite the free content updates which kept me going back for a week or so at a time.  The community of LOTRO is probably the best out of any MMORPG I've ever played... but the game's quests/combat/pretty much everything has become so very dull to me, it's like chewing gum that's lost its flavour...  the quests in the game are really not very interesting at all and combat gets really boring unless you're with an awesome group.

I played the AoC beta, and the quests were great.  The whole game felt more like an 'Action Adventure RPG' to me than any other MMORPG so far.  Not to mention this is the first MMORPG where I really like the way the characters look since SWG.

I haven't even touched my LOTRO account for like a month now... and I'm really considering buying AoC despite the fact that I would have to play on LOW settings.  The game is just fun and interesting, immersive with a lot of effort and detail put into the world.

The one thing I'm not yet sure about, is how strong the RP environment will be in AoC, and the overall community.

So in conclusion... considering leaving my LOTRO game behind for the superior experience in AoC... in fact I'm certain I would have done it by now if I had more time/money atm.

Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.

BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.

Im playing wow and im not leaving it, as i still have great fun playing it. AOC i might buy sometime next year, at that time it has been patched and fixed several times and should be playable without any major frustrations..

hmm AOC  getting alot of wow refuges ;P

  • openedge1openedge1 Member Posts: 2,582

Personally I plan to play AoC and keep my scrip to EQ2...

I have never been a two game person, but EQ2 has been an awesome game, and now AoC is truly awesome as well...

I could easily leave EQ2 as I am having so much fun...but, the community in EQ2 has been the selling point, and my wife enjoys it as well (but also likes AoC...)

Should be an interesting next couple of months

    Later

Will probably get Conan and keep my Eve subs for training and random murder.

With todays open, I am interested if anyone starting today has thoughts on this Poll..

Will you change MMO's or stay where you are...or subscribe to both?

    Thanks

I'm not surprised: wow players are going to leave their game for AOC not the others... CTF and "48X2" for massive pvp is perfect for wow players.  I'm a pvp player and I've just  canceled my order. (I mean AOC order) Combo system is fun, really, but i'ts not enough for a sub (imo) Need something else, need more content. I'm waiting for War as i 'm a DAOC /RvR player.  (DAOC +VG because i need a big/huge world, and this game looks like GW or EQ2; too small for me.)

So all of this based on what? Hear say or have you actually had the chance to get in game, level to 80 and explore..untill you have played it you will NEVER understand how big or perhaps dare i say fun it is.

    Hi.

I begun with the mmorpg genre with RO.

After that i did not play any mmorpg for years, till 2007's 9Dragons.

I still play 9D, but i also played WOW BC also in 2007 and part of 2008.

I wont leave 9D, but i left wow.

And I dont think i'll play AoC, i prefer another kind of content...

    WO might be enjoyable...

I had subs to AO and LOTRO running....canceled them when I got AoC CB access. I can't even play other MMOs now...AoC has me spoiled.

I have stopped playing Ultima Online, WoW and Tabula Rasa.

I have an active account with LOTRO, EVE and Pirates of the Burning Sea, though I will stop paying LOTRO as I really don't bother loging in any more.

Playing AoC I get the same kind of thrill I got while playing UO back in 97...almost. (Almost since I am getting old and really hard to impress)

    I wouldn't/won't touch AoC with a 50 foot pole.

Everything about this game (plus the fact that Funcom stinks) is screaming "GARBAGE" to me.

    So...just some Funcom hate?

SOE gets that attitude also...yet so many still play their games...

    Weird eh?

Maybe you should try a game before making an ulterior decision

Currently I'm only keeping a sub to EVE which I won't cancel. I'm having a blast in the Early Access and I've already pre-ordered so I'm a definite AoC buyer.

EVE is an insurance though. I always find myself going back to EVE. Can't see myself playing EVE in a long time now though.

Funcom gets what they deserve.  Anarchy Online was an unmitigated disaster.  AoC began with :

    1. "Mismarketing" the Early Access program
    2. Lies on the official forums regarding the EA
    3. Refusal to uphold their obligation
    4. Acknowledgment that Beta testing is ongoing DURING Launch
    5. Broken PvP in the form of respawn camping and instance jumping

Funcom is the Uwe Boll of game publishers.

There is absolutely no reason for me to pay $50+ to try a game I know I won't like.

You seem....let down? Did you preorder and not get EA?

Your personal feelings aside. The EA program was a great move I think. It enables Funcom to launch the game in three steps. EA with 100k subscribers, US launch (300k?) and EU launch (300k?).

Doing it this way they increased their chance of a successfull launch. And it seems like they have pulled it off.

As for beta testing still going on? Why on earth does that annoy you? Is'nt it just fine that some people are still working to find bugs and make the game better while it is in launch?

You will probably feel better if you go and wack a punch ball or something.

And this has never been done before by ANY other game companies. . .Fact of the matter is AO has been around for a long time and still has people playing it as will AoC.  Not every game out there has to have WoW based sub numbers to survive.

If the game pains you that much then don't discuss it on these forums.

    It's a Jeep thing. . .

I left EQ2 about 2 months ago for LOTRO which at time was only pretty much any "deep" and modern MMO on market.

Well now tere is AoC which so far looks more appealing then EQ2 and LOTRO

Refusal to uphold their obligation (Which obligation did they refuse to uphold?)
Acknowledgment that Beta testing is ongoing DURING Launch (Again, link to statement)
Broken PvP in the form of respawn camping and instance jumping (Fixed in EA and Open)

    See above

Over and Over the packaging has been shown to have "limited" EA...it was never a mismarket, unless it was on the part of the seller.

What type of lies? Is this in regards to people getting the EA after it was stated it was closed...? Seems a ton of accounts were also banned after this...seems mysterious...does it not?

Which obligation? More info please...EA...EA was not an "obligation"

As to ongoing beta "during" launch...is this the DX10 debacle? You are quite unclear on your statements...

And the PvP issue has been fixed...with massive damage to spawn campers if they attack those players...not sure on instancing yet...but, this is a balance issue if anything...and yes, they will need to find a way to prevent the many exploiters who live to just find every way to game the system they play in..

it is sad that this is the type of world we live in...but, based on current feedback, the game has tremendously been fixed, works well, and issues are being handled..

but...like I said ...company hate runs deep...and if you hate Funcom...nothing will change that...

Just make sure your arguments are a little more detailed

    Thanks

Look out the pitchforks are about to get rattled, how dare thee not wax lyrical and and sing this games praises to the roof tops. Fanboi's wepeons free! Attack at will ....

The Uwe Boll statement was a touch strong though.

Forced to stay in WoW and EvE online due to crappy computer.

But I can say this much, that every raiding guild in the WoW realm I am on have serious problems to get enough people now. Main reason is AoC, raid attendance is ofc lower due to summer soon here. But unlike previous years it didn´t drop this soon and not by this magnitude.

If so many WoW raiders are switching game how many pvpers will join then?

Funcoms timing couldn´t be more perfect if they wanted to attract bored WoW players.

WoW... I actually left it a couple of months ago and I am in limbo. I really want this to be it! At least until WAR!
