There is absolutely no reason for me to pay $50+ to try a game I know I won't like.

This is a funny argument. Considering they've probably broken all previous pre-order mmo-records, and most of the gameshops worldwide is close to selling out, if they haven't already, I'm not sure I understand where you're going. You say they get what they deserve and still their sales are beyond their own expectations? If you were a fanboi I would understand, but the rest of your post is negative. Your reasoning confuses me. You sure they get what they deserve - from your personal standpoint?

i decided to give up on wow, i have been playing it literally since release, loved it when arenas were first created.. never could do well in my favorite bracket (2v2) because i dont run cookie cutter setups.. and just overall always seem to lose to the same "counter combos" finally had enough of losing to bad players with better combos so now im going to play AoC instead.. even if AoC isnt balanced at least its something new and at least i wont have to deal with the stress that arena brings

You have to be a fool leaving Wow in the middle of the end game for an instanced loading box.
one could counter by saying that you's have to be a fool to be playing a cartoon game full of 10 year old leet-talking smack-tards for three years or more when there are more advanced games available with content that hasn't been done to death.

Oh..by the way..if your loading screens in AoC last more than a couple seconds..you need new hardware. But that's why you still play WoW after all, isn't it?

And this has never been done before by ANY other game companies. . .Fact of the matter is AO has been around for a long time and still has people playing it as will AoC.  Not every game out there has to have WoW based sub numbers to survive.

If the game pains you that much then don't discuss it on these forums.

      LOL

Heaven forbid anyone have their own opinion in today's society!?

Sactoking you are no longer allowed to post "on these forums" because you aren't a AoC fan....

WTF!? please tell me Locklain wasn't serious with this post?

After trying AoC, I am going to give my box to a friend when it finally comes.

It doesn't do anything for me, it's just dull and certainly nothing special.

I am going back to EvE and EQ2.  Maybe retry at some point in the future but I doubt it.

    Have Fun.

    On that note....

These arguments are getting very tired.

The game is out now, the fans are playing it, and the others are here bitching about it.

Seriously it doesn't matter. The awe inspired will always refuse to see past the lackluster.

on the flip side of that coin, some people will just refuse to even try something before bashing it.

What both sides need to understand is this.

People are going to love AoC and play it.

People are NOT going to play AoC and hate it.

To fight about this issue is useless. I think everyone can tell by now that AoC broke no records here. It seems to have launched with an OK semi-smooth reception. Despite is "Pre-Order" blockbuster record breaking sales!!! It doesn't seem likely that it will reach the 500k mark in either 1 region be it US or EU. It surely will not break the 1 million mark as many more games come out this year as competition.

It has it's followers and those will remain, It will stabilize and there it will sit on it's throne of niche players. Just like EvE, EQ2, DAoC, AO, FFXI, LotRO. Notice I didn't put Warcraft in this category because as far as I am concerned, and I am sure no other sane person will argue, it is in a league all it's own and it will still be many years to come before any MMO dethrones the King of MMO's subscriber wise. Though I do not play WoW, (I did for many years) that is just the simple truth of numbers.

Obviously AoC does some things different, but from the opinion of many it is nothing new, just has a spit shine to the graphics. The graphics will blind enough people for this game to succeed, regardless of gameplay. Which I am also sure the gameplay cannot be as bad as some will make it out to be.

Anyway, the useless bickering and constant offense / defense in regards to AoC is tiresome.

Wether you play AoC, WoW, Insert random game here.....

It's all about the game and how you play it. <--- they made a song about it

So play the game, and enjoy it, and if your not going to play the game, then why post about it, unless your giving a review and opinion on why you should or should not play it.

If your not going to play it. There is a section on the MMORPG homepage called "Under Development".

Check that section out and look for your next hopeful, there are plenty there.

I personally look forward to WotLK and WAR. Hoping WotLK will breath some new life to wow, though doubtful and well WAR because I played DAoC 7 years. I know what good PvP is. I know who invented the best PvP on planet earth, and if they can even achieve a fraction of DAoC success with WAR's engine, it will be a day worth waiting for. Hi-Res super polygons mean nothing when pitted against the best PvP mechanics in the world. Course this is just an opinion of mine in regards to pvp and in no way should others think I impose my opinions on them.

Glad to see AoC didn't crash and burn on day 1. Still has a long road ahead though.

Have to agree about some liking it and others not, It all comes down to personal choice.  I do have a question about the "blockbuster preorder record"  Are they only counting  it as a  first release record? Because  iirc when  Burning crusade came out it was pretty ugly, something like 2.5 million sold  immediately and no copies on the shelves for about a week.  I don't even know the numbers on original WoW's sales but the fact that they had so many players and not enough servers means they had a pretty big launch as well. If AoC is the new record, you just gotta love marketing spin

Leaving WOW.. but I' ve quit it off and on over the years.. switching between eq2, eq1 progression server, vanguard, and other games in trial versions.. Nothing has really kept my attention for long.

Im really in AoC because of friends there as well.. will see how long it holds my attention.

I am really just killing more time until Fallen Earth comes out.

    Lets try this:

    /who cares

    0 players found

Seriously, people are here to talk about Age of Conan. Not WOW . At the top of the page is two words. Game List. Click on it, scroll down to World of Warcraft and then access the forums there. You can blether on about how good WOW is there amongst fellow people who enjoy that game. Off you go then.

Good points. I just wish that the people who didn't like a particular game would go post in the forums of the games they DO like, and not post repeated hate posts / troll threads.

This site is getting rediculous. Someone will post a thread asking a question, or starting a discussion, and some hater has to come turn the thread into a flame war.

That is an expansion that came out 2 years after the game had been established...

No...that is not what they are comparing it to..

WoW had about 250,000 boxes sold...and that is what they are comparing it to...

LOTRO did about 200,000 sales in 6 months...lol?

No...this was a pretty big sale...and if they retain even half of that in scrips...they will be successful.

Thats because the people that hate wow and other good games are just a vocal minority in the gaming community and unfortunately are the majority in the forum community.  Their sole mission is to invade forums and whine about how bad the games are until some idiot developer makes the game nobody wants to play except themselves.    I mean just look at the numbers WoW is #1 with 10 million  , Guilwars is number 2  with 5+ millilon sold,  numbers dont lie, forum trolls do.

McDonald's has sold millions of Big Macs. Does that make it the "be all end all, best sandwitch ever"?

No, it's cheap, fast and easy. Like wow.

Serving to the lowest common denominator does not mean you have a superior product.

Mercedes are  the BEST selling cars in Germany.

Does that make Mercedes a Mac Donalds car ???

Of course not , it is selling becaus it is THAT good.

meh...I'm willing to bet there are more VW than Mercades sold....not everyone can afford a Mercades. That's like claiming that Hummer is the #1 seller in US
