I love the graphics....I love the combat....I love the interface..I could go on and on about the so many things in this game that are really great. (BUT) there is one thing that will make sure I dont resubscribe after my free 30 days and thats "no open world". Everything is instanced and I mean everything. Every zone is an instance where you have to locate which one your friends are playing in and then go to that one. But you must be in a group with them to see which one they are playing in. Its kinda hard to explaine but it really does suck bad! I dont know why they even have servers when every place you visit in the game has like 20 differant instances for it. Its not like a normal mmo where you walk out into the woods for some pvp and see the same guy you just killed in the same area looking for you . Because once you or the other player leaves that area ......when you return to it ........its a whole differant instance with differant players. Like I said its kinda hard to explaine and I guess you will have to try it for yourself....some may like this new mini server instance thingy within the servers but I cant stomach it at all. I like a huge free open world with in which I can run across the same people on my server at anytime anywhere! Today was sad for me...i really wnated to love this game and it has so much potential.
I think people are going to misunderstand me and for that I apologize for I am not the greatest with words. What I mean when I say no open world is...lets say everyone on the server for any given day wanted to meet in a certain zone to auction off items or pvp or just for the hell of it. We wouldnt be able to because everyone on the server is split into differant instances even for the same zone. Me and my friend logged on at the same time today and where in the same city standing next to the same gate but could not see or hear eachother outside of tells. We had to form a group and the join the same instance so that we could be in the same city at the same time..make any since?
No open world= No open wallet from me in the MMO universe. Good luck to AOC and those who do enjoy its "very" limited freedom.

completely uninformed post.. level up a bit and explore and then post hmn?
Here, this thread is my gallery, the world opens up a heck of alot after 20, trust me. And as for the first 20 levels, that to me, feels like a really enticing single player rpg.

Its like that everywhere, Balthaazar. Not just pre 20. Zones are too damn small in AOC. Too many invisible walls...even post 20
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
I havn't noticed this, I go out into the wilds and end up in all kinds of places, if you mean we have to zone.. oh no?

This is correct. The zones are tiny. Yes you have to zone ALOT. Hence no real open world.
Zone.. alot? I spent 12 hours in the barbarian valley and saw several different areas around and in it, doesn't strike me as tiny for some odd reason.

Im comparing it to other games. It feels small big time. I can t say anymore then that. I hate confined areas in a MMO, this is how it feels to me. If it doesn t to you well then i m happy for you.
Yes this is pet peeve 2 for me. It kills the immersion and i agree.
There's a little golden arrow on your radar where you can choose the instance of the part of the world you're in. If your friends are in that instance of the zone, then choose that one.
Never give up and never surrender!
Excatly what I dislike about the game

The problem is that people keeps comparing AOC to WoW.. AOC is not ment to be a wow look a like..
I Enjoyed Diablo 2, and that was a zoned game.. I also love AOC, thats also a zoned game. I also like WoW, but im not comparing it to AOC..
It's true AoC has more incommon with EQ then with WoW.
for those of you who think he means zoneing when he's talking about it being all different instances your just not getting it......If you played guild wars and your in the town and at the top you can choose what instance of that town your in well thats AOC but its like that for every zone. mabey this will help clarify for some....its also the reason I never gave it a second look
Im aware of that. But he said zoning, not instances. :-)
Im playing on YMIR, and the instance button hasnt worked for me yet. It just says that there are no other instances available.
I would like to know if what the OP referred to is the same as Tabula Rasa system where it has multiple "server/zone (1-10)" of the same map? In TR, if one server/zone is lagging, you could go to another (1-10) of that same map and would be without or have less lag.
thanks for clear this up...
this is apply to me. no matter how good the graphic/gameplay/sound/storyline.. if it is not like a real MMORPG... then i would no want to play..
I'm a big fans of Lineage 1 or 2.. (u might laugh old school) But that is real hardcore mmorpg that u see your enemy, i hate instance.. map that make it more like a solo mmorpg..
BTW my collector edition is arrive on friday )i might have to sell to EBAY.. (not worth $90)
No, this game is more akin to EQ2, as far as zone creation and handling is concerned.
I like it this way, instead of having 20 or more people all trying to kill the same mobs you have 3 or 4. You can still talk to everyone in that area even if they are not in the same instance.
And if you do want to be with the same people just group up.
I think you have misunderstood something.. That the game is zoned/instanced, doesnt mean you cant see other people around in the world.. There are lots of people to meet outside the big cities, even though you arent in a party.
As far as im concerned, the multiple parallel instances has been made so you get rid of the 100+ guys camping the same area for the same quest, which is one of the parts that really bugs me in WoW.
I guess people would rather lag all over the place, fight others over the same spawn point, instead of haveing the option not to. Though people would probably bitch about that too.
More loading zones is a trade off for the quality of the graghics. Vanguard was one large world and look what happened at launch. Even after 6 months 6 players near each other would lag the hell out of it. Even with a decent rig. Once technology catches up we can have AoC graghics with one world but until then this is the trade off. I saw this in Tabula Rasa and at first I thought it was strange but quite quickly I got used to it. Not that hard to just change 'zones' so you are on the same one.
