How about this... Your opinion is of no use to anyone if you played for less than a week.

    Thanks.

To some extent, what Tyron said is the fact. I agree with your conclusions of the shortcomings of this game. So the best policy is to choose another game~~

I played from Early OB till the end of retail when FoM shut down,

There was literaly no other game like FoM, sure it had its problems...but they was slowly getting fixed.

Now i dont play any game.....Only FOM will do...

As for graphics............well they are just the icing on any cake and the ones in FoMk would be adequate were the actual gameplay and setting better.

I'm not one to disagree, but when the player run missions and politics DID work, it was AMAZING. I wouldn't trade that kind of an experience for anything.

Author of this thread has no idea what is he writing about and is probably overdosing his meds as well.

I've played many other games out there, but only fom has give me the unique experience I was looking in all the other games I've played to date.

It sure isnt perfect but no game is, thats why they are called "games".

if you're looking for something even more realisting, with lower pings, better graphics and all the other shit you think that FOM lacks... well then punch yourself in the head and go outside, try that scenario for once.

Some  cartoonish games are like WoW are there for everyone to play them and be good at them. Games like fom get you sucked in for the thrill of action and diversity in them... but at no point it is said you will be good at it.

Its like with rl... most guys are whiners and loosers.

I don't care what anyone says.... I loved this game! I think a lot of people would agree with me on that heh

I can see why most people would think the game sucked but to me it had a lot of things that no other MMO had and that alone made it great to me.

I can't wait until it's released again, I know I will pay to play it!

Agree, I will be there the experience is vastly more different then any other game out there.  Great times were had by all.

This game was the only game to keep my attention for 3 years on and off.

Yes, it had nothing to do at times.. and I made a few suggestions myself about adding some form of content, but this game was still the only game I ever really enjoyed.  So much that I can't even find an enjoyable game/mmo to play now.

Yesterday, I spent about an hour searching for a game to waste a little time on.  I was sifting through lists of real-time strategy games, turn-based strategy games, online games, and multiplayer games.

First off, there were four game settings in all of those lists.

Medieval fantasy with armor, arrows, elves, and magic.

Medieval historic with armor, arrows, horse back knights, and trebuchets.

Historic 'through the ages' type games with cavemen, archers, musketeers, and riflemen protecting huts, castles, and military bases.

Space flight combat/colonization.  As if I wasn't bored enough of EVE already.

Not to mention the amount of times I realized I hated MMO's after searching for multiplayer/online games on google.  Hello, I don't want to try any of these lackluster bullshit generic mmos about fantasy elves flailing their magical attacks in the direction of pretty blond humans in a merry party of Dwarven axe men.  I don't give a shit if you can raise your own pet or become possessed by a beast.  Its all the same shit.  Over and over again.

In these new mmos, you start the game and immediately talk to the NPCs around you.  You get a quest and head out into the field to kill magical monsters so you can level up to have boring PvP that is more random than anything.  You attempt to stun the target, you miss.  You attack for 32 damage.  Player attacks you for 35 damage.  You attack for 11 damage.  Player misses you.

FoM was different.  It had freedom.  Sure, a lot of things could have been added to it to make it more exciting, but it was still better than most games on the MMO market.

Now, in order for FoM to survive, they have to make it into a generic leveling game.  Hence Elementum, guild wars, and body enhancing.  All because some simple minded people couldn't grasp what FoM truly was.

The politics give us more of a feel of reality ingame and it did work quite well more so in beta because there was more people playing but as soon as fom went P2P it was a detterant. The game was totaly worth the money, but the community was needed to play it. Like some one said earlier the community was getting to small to play. In beta FOM had it right, but by adding the P2P it ruined the community if they have implemented to same structure in rebirth but adding free accounts they will be able to get alot more cash and hopefully implement the stuff they have cut back on for the budget.

As i was a LED DPI from OB - end of FOM it affected me alot more no players to train i trained about 1 every month it was very stressful being unable to do my job. I think they have a perfect game it was the community who left after OB who ruined the game.

I dont want FOM to loose its essence and features like politics, player run missions, ranking system but i guess we lost it with the new budget.

All I have to say is I miss the days of running around Andromeda late night with my EC co-workers just goofing off and having fun.... up until someone showed up who wanted to kill us all

I agree that they need some form of free account if they want to get the type of numbers they had during beta. If they were smart they would do what a lot of smaller games have been doing and have a free account and then a premium account.

Either way I just hope they go through with everything and I don't mind paying them to play again :)

  • ricko32ricko32 Member Posts: 17

I do think FOM was the most orginal game with politics that mattered and it was the only game where a ranking system actually made a change. Like if you was ordered to do some thing and you disobeyed them then you would be punished no other games are really like this.

I probably wont be around for FOM rebirth because i am joining the Royal marines in august but i really do hope that it is as good so when i come back on leave i can have a go and say hi to all my old LED buddies

Hey folks, its another lonely FoM soul here. I'm happy to hear its in redevelopment, but I really think its never coming back.  FoM was the only game where people could all line up in a small area and sit and do nothing for hours and have fun.  The whole unpredictibility was addicting.  The completely player driven world was awesome too.

Some day someone will make a good game again, but I'm not entirely counting on it.  Maybe some of us should start looking into game engines and seeing if we can throw something similiar together.

Hey Ina welcome to the forums!!!

This game was acutally cool. I bet you're probably one of those kids who only play CS:S because it looks pretty on the eyes aren't you? Not for the whole gameplay experience but how amazing you can make a player model look or how awesome you can make a 2x4 plank of wood look.

Well listen up, FOM provides a sort of gameplay that most games don't. The Open PVP aspect to everywhere and anywhere. A player ran game that allows the players to decide politics, not the GM's. Giving this freedom really doesn't make anyone God and deciding for you. Go play WoW, only people you can fight is the Alliance/Horde, well maybe I want to gank this dumbass in my party? Oh lul, I can't because they don't allow that. Carebear much. If you have a problem with someone in FOM you can solve it two ways, diplomatically, or gank the god damn person.

3 Clans, 4 Companies, 3 Protection Factions = Alot of politics and sort of your own little world of trust, deception, and greed.

There have been some epic stories in Face of Mankind Open Beta. Retail was COMPLETE SHYTE, but Open Beta was truly great.

Mercenaries backstabbing companies for bigger contracts from other companies.

Constant war between the Global Dominion(Police/Military) and the Clans.

Controlling the market the way you see fit.

    Civil wars within factions.

As the game trailer said, "Your action effects someone, somewhere, somehow" is really true for this game.

But now that they moved on to retail, the game just blows chunks and gameplay and graphics have gotten even worse. So, salute to you Ojom and Duplex for screwing up a great game.

Currently a FOMEmulator is being created at the moment, the retail version of course *facepalm* and I'm going to have to say the people who are creating it are a bit shady and the Community Manager of it is a total failure.

there was only one thing I did not really liked, and did like equally . It was the open PK / PvP

I only played in OB, because how the game mechanics worked on the PK / PvP ..  was the reason I did not purchase.  I had a lot of fun playing this game during that time. as I said I had a equally love hate on the PvP system. it was too easy for campers to gank new players, which was happening quite often. There was no safe place to use the market to sell, which was another spot that campers stayed.

I liked the way the game was played, I just had mixed feelings about the pK'ng

That is about all I can remember.

That I liked it, enjoyed my time playing, but because it was too easy to get ganked as a newb starting for the first time, I saw problems with that, I remember I made suggestions back then . related to having one safe area, but the camping gankers hated it.

If you ask me, that was the games larger weakness for new players. It was too Open  PvP / Pk game

the graphics? they moved it. it was hilarious. ill play this game if its F2P, all items. no premiums.

Love the gameplay in FOM. Would pay for a meaningful FPSRPG. Games can have the best graphics in the world and still suck

Just uninstalled this game, I was getting killed for no apparent reason every where almost getting chain killed.  The CMD faction must be a real weak or small faction no protection at all it seems even in the places the faction controls that's where you get ganked the most.

I tried to protect my self but it was pointless.  It was hard to tell who is friend or foe because not every one in my faction wears same color armor and i cant get the attackers name because they shoot from behind 100% of the time.  just seems like a bunch of kids running around shooting people for no reason.

The game just seems pointless and boring,  It already failed once and you would think they would work on making it more new player friendly.

that is correct, CMG actually have a weak military but strong economic value,, part of face of mankind is getting killed alot, you must get used to it, its not a game for everyone, you need to aquire a taste,, and vent is pretty much a required thing to get anywhere..

Is there a reason why this game is in Beta still? (This is assuming from the OP, back from Oct. 2005, that this game was OB from 2005-2007, and CB from 2007-2009?)

yea, it was gunna go live last weekend, but a faction attacked another faction on their world and a huge lagfest started. so the game's gunna be on in OB for a while longer
