There aren't any true game breaking bugs it's just the game lacks "polish" some content is missing after lvl 45 or so really. The game is great and had it had the last "polish" done, it would have been even better.
It's a question if you're willing to grind some mobs after lvl 45 in between some quests or not. There should be a lack of loot in the high lvl dungeons but they should be implemented in a week or two, with the outdoor "boss" tagged mobs finally dropping blue stuff as well, right now they just drop a large amount of money, which is great aswell since you'll need every penny (you're likely to only have 1g at lvl 40 when you need 3g or is it 4g?) i really haven't looked at the correct prices of the horse mount yet.
A mate of mine whose a few levels above me said the grinding was NOT a problem, so it's like going back to old school mmorpg grinding, while waiting to get high enough for the next stages of quests.
But the game is stable, rock stable for most, at launch i only DC'd once after 3 days playtime, and the "lag meter" was in green but yesterday i did find a few times where the lag jumped up and then down, was like 3 times, don't know why but were the only times it happened, also when a DC happens (since the 23rd i've had 3-4 DC) you can always log in right away, 2 of those realizing it was server restart.
But you might have a system rig that's jinxed to AoC, one of my mates who has an ATI card have grave problems, while the other with an ATI as well had no problems, i myself using a Nvidia, have none.
If you want to enjoy AoC a little better than those who actually still enjoy it now, then maybe wait a week or two, when they launch the patch with new armors, then you'll have more to look fore and your boss tagged mobs while lvl'ing might also drop something blue heh.

In the first sentence of your post, you said that just under 70% ... are unhappy or not pleased with AoC in its current state. That statement is accurate though does not match the "fact" you purport in the title. I'm still debating whether to purchase / play AoC and have waded through the posts here at mmorpg.com about it. I found the data in the poll somewhat interesting in that of those that reported that they were not pleased with the game's current state (n=767 at the time that I'm looking at the results), 82% (630 of the 767) *still* report that they are "happy". It makes me speculate that the game's current state must not consist of truly "game-breaking" bugs (at least for the content that a majority of players have encountered). Moderately interesting data, but not enough to get me off the fence either way. But a thoroughly misleading title to your post. Shame on you.
I for one have played since Beta, and watched it come a long way. I run 2x 8800GT Sli w/ 4 gig of SLI OCZ ram and a Core2 Duo 2.4, and I have absolutly no Disconnects, very little lag unless in a very large battle then I get about 35FPS.
I use Split Frame Rendering2(Nvidia Control Panel-Global) and a few other tweaks for video and the SLI does make a difference if you know how to build a machine. Swap File Turned off Completely, I run 32Bit XP and this way I have no lag issues with my Hard drive cacheing that swap file.
There are some quest that seem bored to some and fine to others. The people that have soo many problems, are most likely going to leave, but hey I am staying until it is done ,then pawn all the noobs coming back, lol.
I really beleive it is about the players playstyle. So far what I have seen, was Guilds that came in the game on EA- ,Used everything they could "manipulate" to power level, then sit back and complain about nothing to do because a lot of the higher end stuff is still being tweaked and added in patches. And it does get better every patch thus far, at least for me.
If you like to Quest, Loot, Sell, And Travel this game has a Great Storyline. The naysayers are always all over every game released, you know the rule, You can't please all the people all the time. Seems there are plenty of people like myself, that enjoy this game and are really looking foward to the future content they talked about adding.
I am no fanboi, I am just pleased that the game is out, and I can play something new with unique combat and adventures to explore. I have played every game on the market I bet since 89, From Spear Of Destiny to Star Wars Galaxies, and this game by far is better on release than most of the ones I have played.

I have to take issue with your concern about sample size - it doesn't matter if the population is several hundred thousand, an N of 1300 should provide more than sufficient power for a single question poll as long as you aren't trying to get accurate parameter estimates with incredibly small confidence intervals around the response with the fewest responses in the poll.
Asking *current players* about their experience as you suggest may result in a biased result if you were trying to gauge whether people were "happy with the game" as it would exclude people who had stopped playing but not yet unsubscribed, could not play due to problems, or had unsubscribed. Having a poll that does not ask / verify that respondents have purchased or played the game is also a problem.
The biggest problems with the poll, in my opinion, are whether the sample is representative, and the generalizability and interpretation of the results (difficult due to how it has been crafted).

Personally I like the game, it runs smooth and has good quests. The different classes are all fun to play and so far I have 0 complaints about anything in this days old game. I am also been happy with Funcom speed in addressing issues in the game, which for me have been few.

Your post is encouraging to me - I'm cautious because I'm running 32bit Vista and 2x 8800GTS SLI and have had a few problems before with virtual address space usage since I have a lot of video memory (which was a problem for me with The Witcher).
I completely hear your point re: give it a try. I figure if I get a couple hours of enjoyment out of a game, it was worth it. Sometimes even if I don't enjoy a new game, I feel like my time was well spent if I can see something novel or innovative about it. Thanks for the post.

As posted before the OP is a fool for buying this game, he thought it was wow or some other cosole game he plays on his PS2.
Anyone with any sense will know that no MMO is released in prestine condition.
