DISCLAIMER: Now, I know that this forum is going to be skewed to WAR, AND I know this is the millionth post about this AND I know that it is silly to compare a released game to a unreleased game. Also, I have my own opinion aside from the pending results of this post.
But, I want to know what everyone THINKS about this. I know AOC is having a pretty successful lauch (financially at the very least), so I think it will raise the stakes on WAR to do the same.

I think its ludacris to compare a game geared towards Raiding & Hardcore Guilds against a Community / Co Op geared game like WAR.
I'll be playing WAR but the subjectiveness of which game is better I won't comment on. I know what I like and what I'm look for and I've chosen the game thats offering the best choices for me. Nuff Said.
Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!
Someone Blogged about this earlier, and I pretty much agreed with him: AoC failed to meet popular expectations at launch, and many people are unhappy about it. WoW is getting very old in people's minds now especially from the lack of end-game content. WAR is poised to make a very large splash in a positive way, provided it can deliver and really make good impressions.
I would say the end of this calendar year is a phenominal time to release a well built MMO that has some heavy PvP and good PvE components to it. RvR is just the icing on the cake - for people that never played DAoC believe me when I say it was the cat's meow. I used to spend hundreds of hours just running around the frontiers in anticipation of keep attacks and defenses.
So in my mind, based on global feedback about AoC and how it is being received by the average MMO gamer, I think WAR has an awesome shot to take the rug out from under it.
It's tough to compare. Definatly not apples to apples here. I think WAR will be more succesful in the long run if that's what you mean. Age of Conan appears to have had a good release and has a strong following so it will have it's own success for sure. But, WAR will probably be a bit more mainstream, like WoW.
Yea right. AoC will be more polished when WAR comes out. We'll start the compliants and whinning all over again with WAR. Just watch!

Sometimes the taste is so bitter it doesnt matter what happens. If anything, the players who leave now have a few options.
1- they will go back to the game when it is more polished
2- they will go to War and either will be more impressed by its launch compared to AOC that they will stick with it as it shows more promis.
there is more, but the 2nd one is what i feel, If the game shows promise in the start and it delivers that, then you usualy have a feeling that the game will continue to keep up that quality.
But for the short time i played AOC, and from what i understand the first 20 is the most polished, it still felt buggy and nonresponsive controls

WAR beta is more polished than AoC now ..
I'm sure that WAR will have as many problems as AoC did. -_-
NO! WAR won't be better than AoC! Everybody knows the upcoming patch for AoC is going to fix all of the problems people are having with it! A DEV even said so! The only reason it launched with the problems it did was because they were out of money! They needed another 500 dollars that they did not have so they HAD to launch and not hold off two weeks to put in these miracle patches. You will all see! AoC will be better than WAR, and WoW, and even Hello Kitty Online! What a stupid question!
No way to tell at this point. WAR isn't even released yet so how can anyone possibly know ? I've heard the strangest things like WAR won't even been finished due to financial issue and people are leaving beta cause they don't like it. That is all speculation though just like this thread. Noone knows.
Im just waiting for WAR. I do believe it will have a lot better initial start than AOC (from what ive read and heard). If AOC straightens itself out in couple months i might give it a go, but will drop it infavor of WAR.
Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR.
Playing EVE Online and AOC.
Wtg for SW:TOR and WOD
Think about it EA and financial problems?.. And people leaving beta? Yea.. a lot of people are leaving betas of many games ..because they expected finished, polished game, without character wipes etc... And TBH..it's better when these people will leave and wait till release.
Well from what beta testers have told me its amazing and gets better and better every patch.
Well since you brought it up, I played Hello Kitty Online quite a bit, and I think it is way better than AoC!
However after playing AoC I must say it was a complete waste of money. There was not too much wrong with the content, a bit lacking in areas, seems like they spent half their budget on the frist 20 levels and the other half on the other 60. The graphics are the best an MMO has seen.
The biggest failing of AoC was the customer service and the bugs. The amount of people writing petitions and getting deleted is amazing, people waiting 15 hours with no response. The tech forums have absolutely no customer support, half the issues are solved by the community, the other half have threads almost 1000+ posts long and no fix or response from Funcom. They have been updating often and each update is lucky to have 1 very minor bug fix.
If WAR releases a fairly polished game without any major game breaking bugs that makes the game totally unplayable then WAR will be laughing all the way to the bank, they will see double the release AoC has seen.
I don't want WAR to be better than AoC. I want there to be two big kids on the block (with the addition of more hopefully, with such games as Aion, TCoS, and whatnot). The WAR fans will play WAR and the AoC fans will play AoC. If some AoC fans come to WAR and love it, great, welcome! If they hate it, great, go back to something else. Since it's probably inevitable that people will complain and try to demote WAR when its released, only the true fans will probably play right at launch.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

From what I have seen of beta I am unimpressed, and the general opinions seems to be the same. I know it is hard to accept negative critisim for something you want to like, but sometimes the truth is the best. I say this even though I actually like AoC and even though I will be playing Warhammer online.
AoC had a fairly good release, though there are huge problems. A lot of feats are broken, itemization is virtualally non-existant, and at lot of end game is not ready yet. But after after all that I am still playing and enjoying the game. Pvp is fine, the storyline is pretty damn good, and I see potential.
War has a lot of heat under itself, AoC is getting time to polish. Do I think WAR will do better? Yes, actually, I do. Well, to be more correct, I think it has a better chance. Whatever you may say about WAR the simple truth is it has a -lot- of WoW appeal and that will garner it many fans who might not know the world or story.
The ultimate truth? WAR is just another mmorpg from another company.. they all promise things. None of you know if WAR will do better than AoC. The simple fact is it can fall flat on it's face. MMORPG's are a huge undertaking, even for a company that has done it before and is a bit more prepared. The simple fact will be WAR's release, if the game is not instantly fun and if there are more than a few minor problems, the game will very likely sink. One thing that helps other mmorpg is that most of it's fan base are previous mmorpg players. WAR will get a lot of players whose first mmorpg was WoW during it's prime, and they have a very strong vocal influence that will destroy the game if it is not top notch at release.
Us experienced players know most mmoprgs do not release top notch...so we will see how it turns out.
Oh, and even though EA is their publisher they can still have financial problems. I have heard the same rumors and though unlikely it is possible. Even companies like EA are extremely stingy with their money and either give "allowances" per milestone or feel the game can not be completed and save themselves whatever amount that can.
This is a tuff one---- its like comparing a basketball game to a football game-yea their both sports that involve a ball- but other than that there isnt a whole lot in common
The only thing i would find compareable- would be quality at launch
Im hearing that WAR's beta is looking a lil more polished than AOC's was at the same time before launch--but on the flip side im hearing theres still quite a bit of work to be done before a successful launch can be had by WAR--
my 3 buddies in beta are all 3 CLAIMING there will be a push back to release date coming cuz theres a lot of work to be done---but hey some companies have some awesome developers/programmers so there may not
These games are really two totally different games focusing on 2 totally different elements of an mmo game
Im playing AOC now and enjoy it so far---- Im also looking forward to WAR for a different playstyle
im also playing aoc i like it not a bad game they rushed it out which was sort of lame but not so bad most mo launchs are rough the system still being broken end and some bugs are still their but funcom just needs to get off there asses and fix stuff which they are doing. but war will be great aoc is good game but it will not rival war 2 differant concepts. like them both tho.
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
I think WAR will be more successful in the end.
This is mainly because Mythic seems to be willing to cater to every type of gamers as opposed to Funcom, who seems to be catering to the hardcore gamers at the moment.
Moreover, while it might have been hard to decide prior to AoC's release due to great promises by both games, AoC is not turning out so good after launch. It is undeniable that there is content missing so this might put some players off, especially if Funcom does not make up for this by the time WAR and WoW's expansion are released.
I don't know about any of you but every MMO that comes out has a bunch of hype and when it's released it's not everything they make it out to be. Why people are thinking WAR will come out and have no major issues is beyond my ability to comprehend. I'm interested in both and am playing AoC, i'm also almost 24 and have more patience, yes things in AoC push it but i still enjoy the game for what it is and is going to become. if they stopped the lag spikes i'd be 50% happier, and if they smoothed out the graphics engine so i could turn them up (i'm above the recommended and running on low settings to get 40-60 fps) i'd be 100% happy. I've played Ragnarok Online, i know what grinding is and i don't think any game can compete with how horrible grinding is on that game. so i can live with having to be patient on higher level content which they've already stated they're implementing along with letting us know they know of what major issues there are that they are working on.
WAR sounds good, Mythich have a good reputation. at the same time, personally i find the graphics to be worse than WoW, and while yes content matters most, i'd like to enjoy the environment and playing in cartoon land doesn't help me do that. i really think both are good MMO's backed by a company that is and will be working hard to make them better and more enjoyable. I know for a fact that WoW had major issues when it was released... why are people ignoring that? why is everyone so freaking impatient. like everyone else, i do wish they'd just work on the game till it's 100% done before release but it has never happened and it wont ever because the people who fund the game demand it be launched when they see it's done enough to play.
But back on topic, I agree with a few of the previous posters. I want them both to do well, and both attract a solid base.
BUT.
Even in beta now, WAR is more polished than AoC was in beta 4-5 months ago. WAR, at this time, is really just polishing, whereas AoC was still solidifying/removing content 4-5 months ago.
I think that the wealth of broken promises to the community, and lack of end-game content will cripple AoC. Most people are rapidly become disillusioned with the game, which (honestly) is a shame; because it is - or could be - a good game.
In the long run WAR, IMHO, will prove to be the more successful and enjoyable game.
btw, is this EAs first MMO? i know the reputation of EA being a slave driver to push out games as fast as it can... but could it possible that they really are giving mythic the time and freedom to accomplish what they want?
EA is only helping with the funding, and if they were being slave drivers, I have a feeling WAR would've already been released
