Vanguard - Brilliant

  • You crack me up, winter.  First of all, those sites are not at all accurate nor up to date.  The only stats I would accept are from SOE themselves.  I am just basing this on my experience in game and on other forums.

I have popped in to check in on Vanguard every once in a while since I quit and the population right now is higher than I have seen it in a long time.  I am not saying that Vanguard has a high population,  All I am saying is that it is growing and is getting a relatively high influx of new players trying it out or asking for a trial.

I dont see the point of your posting.  If you dont like the game, thats fine, but please stop attempting to deny the simple facts of a game that is improving and growing.

And I am not necessarily asking people to spend money on the game.  All I am saying is to take another look at it if you are looking for a new MMO.

After looking at some of your posts, it seems you may just be a bit butthurt that your PC couldn't run the game on release?  If thats the case, the performance has improved and you should be fine now.  My relatively high end PC could barely run it at release either.

I played from launch and leveled a Blood Mage to level 50, but there just wasn't much to do because everything was unfinished.   I came back for the free month around Christmas, and I think the game was better on many levels.   I really am tempted at this point to check it out again, but it's probably still has a lot of the same issues that lost my attention.

Does the world have a soul now?  It seemed so devoid of lore and epic things to do.  I liked the music, had no problem with the graphics, but there wasn't anything special about the general feel that game gave you.

How is the economy now?  Is it still 2 plat for a small ship, and a plat for marginally good gear?

Pvp options on Pve servers would be nice.  My ego doesn't ride on ganking people.. I enjoy team PVP on my terms, but I'm not a big enough fan to play on a pvp server.

Is crafting worthy of putting time in other than to get rich?  Has high end crafting been fleshed out?

    just wondering

If u don't like this game and is in love with Conan, great for u...a game is all about having fun nothing else.  So why don't u stop coming to this forum to reply 3 thousand topics - including very old ones - and go to play AoC? We don't get any money from SOE to come here to say good things about this game, actually we pay for it...so don't play the retard, please.

great game for carebears, er I mean pve'rs. Waste of time for pvp'rs. Its a total flop on the pvp server, the pvp is unbalanced, and theres no reward for pvp. Im so sick of running mazes like the rest of the lab rats. I need a challenge, and Vanguards not going to bring it. yay for PVE games with PVP duct taped to its ass as an afterthought. Good for you pve'rs Im glad you like it. Pvprs? look elsewhere .

Thanks for being obvious.  I'd swear this is an informative post, but unfortunately this has been said since day 1.

it's also been listed on the 100-things we'll probably never get to list that Sony put out when they took over.

And by that, I mean its never been listed as something they were working on.

Same old crap just a different day.

lol they just got around to putting helmets in the game.  Albeit at the expense of a massive loss of character customization.  Quest bugs still exist.  Graphical anomalies still abound and the world is still incredibly empty.

Have they made improvements?  Yes, some.   But this game is still in the minor leagues of MMO's

I played Vanguard and enjoyed it for a couple of months doing pve and pvp made a bunch of 40+'s then i startet craftng and found out just how pointless vanguards crafting system is.

But if u find grinding workorders fun sure give it a try.

I truly believe it is the best looking MMO by far, and no MMO even comes close when it comes to exploring and such, so I am soooooo tempted to go back.
I picked up AoC hoping it would suffice, and after a couple weeks am finding the crafting/gathering system to be lacking severly, and there is virtually zero exploration to the game, it is so linear. I am seriously thinking about going back to Vanguard, but am not sure.
How are populations? and the content after level 40 (for the soloist)?

after returning to vanguard after a 7 month absence i solo'd all the way to lvl 50, there are solo quests now for solo'rs like you or me, I was very impressed at how the game has turned around, the new mounts are really nice , the helmets are neat, but i got so used to not haveing a helmet that helmets felt weird so i chose to hide mine lol. A lot if not most of the bugs for diplomacy have been worked out as well. But i suggest if you really want to enjoy vanguard make sure yer computer is up to par with the newer games as it is still a huge game. I could suggest you to the guild I am in it is The house of lordes, and there website is www.houseoflordes.com great bunch of people there.

The lore everyone is looking for is found by doing the diplomacy sphere, while conversing in the diplomacy the conversations reveal what is going on , in and around all the cities and towns, as well as enables you to give civic buffs to the town for crafting and special fighting buffs as well.

player made gear is still one of the best ways to make money and is still one of the best gears you can get aside from epic gear and hardcore faction gear.

I am not sure of the ship prices as my friends made me one so i didnt pay for it.

no pvp on the pve servers, you can dual people., but the game mechanics would not work to put pvp and pve together unless there was a special server for it that scaled the creatures and people to be balanced to do so.

Maybe arcken just sux at pvp, i had no problems in pvp, you do realize gear and stuff does matter for protection, to help yerself in pvp get some armor that is superbly crafted with resists, that may help.

Well, I agree its pointless, but its the same in every other game I know about. Making crafting a valid part of gameplay is not that easy.

I beg to differ it being pointless, player made gear is the best stugff you can get outside the raid of port wharehouse. There are a few items that are better than crafted but require a crazy faction grind to get, I am more than happy wioth superb player made armor over most lotted and quest given armor and weps

For all my criticisms, I will say that Vanguard is the best MMO on the market today. If you haven't tried it, you probably should.

That said, it's stupid for VG not to have a free trial. Let people try it and let the product sell itself.

Luckily, i don't need you to like me to enjoy video games. -nariusseldon.
In F2P I think it's more a case of the game's trying to play the player's. -laserit

A trial is due out very soon.

Also -- to those people pointing out that the PVP is stupid I would have to agree.  The only MMORPG out right now with PVP that "makes sense" is EVE.  I'm enjoying my free-for-all PVP server on Vanguard though.

Serious death penalties makes every close call an adrenaline rush, and every minor achievement a major victory. This alternative rule-set should be in all MMORPGs.

Funny that.

Played DAOC, WWIIONLINE: u can call these great games PVP Games

    Ok, a word from me:

I love the concept of vanguard and I played the game since release (actually resubbed several times), The game however has 2 serious flaws which i cannot bear unfortunately:

    1. Lack of character customisation - there are no optional skills to be chosen, no achievements, talents. You can just add some points to yuor attributes, but the choices are REALLY obvious. E.g. all warriors are just copies except for gear. This is really bad IMHO.

    2. PVP server is dead. I know most of the VG playerbase resents PVP, but I find it a serious motivational factor if I can be killed while questing and exploring. Makes it all spicy.

Character customisation is getting a serious overhaul.  According to the devs the character models was one of the reasons for poor performance.  Most of the CC was removed due to the reason stated, but has a bonus it allowed helmets to be implemented.  Hopefully the new player characters will be implemented by GU 6, but cannot be sure.
I agree certain classes have no way to define themselves, i.e. talent/AA system like other games, but due to the amount of classes on offer, there's a play style to suit everybody and certain classes like Monk, Necro, Cleric and Shamen have to choice a certain path at a certain level which to specialise in.  Bards have there own tools to compose songs, sure most bards songs will be identical but there's room for variety.

I agree with this. The PvP server is dead and unfortunately it is low on SOE's checklist.  If you are after PvP,  Vanguard is not the place to be.  I like PvP, meaningful PvP with rewards and penalties etc.  I'm hoping if VG gains subs SOE will invest more resources and design a great PvP ruleset in the future.

I agree with most of the posters that vanguard has really turned around, I originally started MMOs with FFXi and then to WoW and Vanguard has everything I loved about both games. Its got awesome group content, Im talking hundreds of dungeons to spend an evening in getting loot and exp. It also has plenty of quests to keep you busy while looking for a group which is the main thing I didn't like about FFXI, you couldn't do anything without a group.

You guys can wait for a trial if you want but you can get a copy of vanguard for less than $20 almost anywhere if you want to give it a try, as long as you like Pve content, grouping or solo, I can almost guarantee most people will like Vanguard now. If you are primarily a pvper or don't have a PC with at least 2Gigs of RAM and probably a 7600GT as a minimum Id say hold off though. Before I upgraded my PC I didn't enjoy it nearly as much with how terrible it played and how bad it looked with everything turned way down.

What really bugged me about Vanguard was the lack of a common sense travel system.  There were these stupid poles in the middle of BF Egypt that I had to somehow summon to and it just felt quirky and put in as an afterthought.  If they improved the way the world is put together and you can actually travel like a normal game, then I'd try it again.  Otherwise, I don't want to get frustrated again with Vanguard and find myself saying over and over again "Who the hell thought of this?"

Not sure if you are regarding the new way to travel or the old way, but most if not all the magor towns and hubs have a transport, it used to suck bad but the new way is much more accesible to go where you need to and group wqith people in other towns and continents.
