it will be EXTREMELY hard not to make an MMO better than AoC

especially if core elements such as strength and armor works from the start

i wonder if funcom's MMO Wizard 2004 is shareware version

Well i think it depends on one's preference.

Being an action gamer WAR is closest to mentality. Its the game where i will log in and go to bash some skulls, sack the enemy's capital city, play some scenarios and log out(much like what i am doing when i am playing games like bf2 or enemy territories for a closer  resemblance). Now dont get me wrong people  ofcourse the game will have a lot more of content just pointing out what i like in WAR and something that came up to me just now, the fact that you dont need a guild to join the massive battle that's something nice(all that wrapped in one of my favourite universe, being a gm to p&p war for some campaigns i love this world).

AOC on the other hand is following a more typical MMO  recipe but with a single player's game design melded in it(i think that this is good except the instances, because i believe that a single player game's design kicks the &^%$ out of a mmo). Also aoc is a more 50%pve 50%pvp game(in which you have to be in a guild to join the big  battles) unlike WAR and this is where the main difference lies.

Now to the main question of this topic. We cant really say now(except the fact of the two games direction) simply because WAR hasnt released yet and aoc is in a broken state with missing content.Seeing that WAR will come out as a lot more polished game and judging that aoc will be polished around that time the best time to compare these two games will be December or January, where also war will have solved most problems(if it has but i think it will,i mean how polished can it be released?).

PS.I am currently playing Aoc i have to say that i like it,ofcourse its not reccomended to many people since its not in a good state and i would like to witness its polishing as a game and also the release of  WAR but i ufortunately i cant for about 6 months(Damn you merchant marine why cant i have internet in the ship).

I would say the end of this calendar year is a phenominal time to release a well built MMO that has some heavy PvP and good PvE components to it.  RvR is just the icing on the cake - for people that never played DAoC believe me when I say it was the cat's meow.  I used to spend hundreds of hours just running around the frontiers in anticipation of keep attacks and defenses.
So in my mind, based on global feedback about AoC and how it is being received by the average MMO gamer, I think WAR has an awesome shot to take the rug out from under it.

Yea right.  AoC will be more polished when WAR comes out.  We'll start the compliants and whinning all over again with WAR.  Just watch!

I have to downright fall out of my chair laughing when I read threads like this, precisely because of what the quoted poster said.  EVERY SINGLE FREAKING RELEASE is supposedly going to "dethrone WoW", "be better than AoC", "be the next godsend to all of gamerkind".....BLAHBLAHBLAH.

Hasn't ANYONE learned yet that our "Game Messiah" is a figment of our possibly overactive imaginations?  I've become a ....hmmm...  what's a game atheist called?  Whatever you'd call a "Greatest Game of All Time Atheist"....that is what I have become.

And I will tell you WHY....

Almost every MMO since WoW has been lauded as "the one that will blow WoW out of the water."  Yet, NONE....NONE....have delivered.  And trust me.....there is NOTHING in the virtual world that I want MORE than some amazing game to DO just that.  I am so acutely bored of MMOs right now, I could cry.  But I will no longer place my "faith" in the "next great MMO release."

THERE IS NO GAMER SAVIOR.  I renounce my faith in MMOdom.  I will not give my allegiance, my loyalty, nor my posting time to yet another game.  From here on out, I will not judge ANY game until it has been released and SURVIVED, no....flourished....for at least a year.  Then if it STILL looks interesting to me, and the forums are not full of people languishing over all of the game's atrocities and sins against us........

I will allow a small glimmer of hope, take the chance, and actually PLAY THE FREAKING GAME before I go on and on about how "wondrous and magnificent" it is.  I'm not praising any game that hasn't displayed a tried and true worthiness.

    Incidentally.........

I am sick to death of the same old same old fantasy orc, dwarf, elf, bullshizna, and I'm hoping against all hope that someone somewhere will come up with a new idea that will actually be refreshing, and wonderfully immersive.  The only possibility I've even considered is oh....maybe The Agency?  At least it seems like it may be SORT of different.  But time will tell.  Trust me....I'm not putting any faith THERE either.

But, I want to know what everyone THINKS about this.  I know AOC is having a pretty successful lauch (financially at the very least), so I think it will raise the stakes on WAR to do the same.

Frankly...the games aren't the same from what I can determine...so there is no "better than" in my eyes.    Warhammer will attract old time Daocers and Warhammer table top fans plus others.   Its all a matter of taste,  if you're a Conan fan you'll go Conan if you're a Warhammer fan you'll go War, some folks might play both.  ( I played Daoc back before levelled battlegrounds and TOA)

    All up to the individual........imho.

It's quite possible people are leaving beta. Every game won't appeal to everyone. Additionally some people expect to basically play the game for free in its release state and get pissed when they can't.

Are the WAR devs watching the AoC release and subsequent events?

It's been like this for a long time now, and it isn't going to change.

    1. You only get to release once.

    2. A few bugs? Ok, no one expects perfection. A LOT of bugs? Not ok, people will say they don't want to pay for Beta.

    3. Content and features. Don't promise, if you can't deliver. AoC? Supposed to have Sieges, they didn't make it into release. By they time sieges are in, the new game smell will have worn off, and nobody will care. People are maxing out, and wondering what they are supposed to do. Duh, the end game isn't in the game yet.

    4. System specs. yes, we like shiny graphics, but we don't want a bogged down piece of crap that won't run well on even the most bleeding edge machinre. Vanguard already did this, and ow AoC. Stop it already, the top MMORPG has cartoony graphics, which run on low end systems. Get it? Make the game work on an average machine already.

So I hope the WAR devs have time to polish, so there are an acceptable amount of bugs, and implement the main features of the game, including the end game, and that the game runs on an average computer. Do those small things, and your chances of success go up exponentially, IMO.

WAR cannot help but be better.  If WAR turns out to be nothing more than DAOC with some new skins, it'd be better than AOC.

Remember, AOC is a linear RPG with very little MMO atmosphere; you hardly run into anyone at the lower levels.

WAR should be great, from what I hear.

WAR beta is more polished than AoC now ..

This could not be any more true. WAR could be released now and it would still be months ahead of AOC in terms of polish and development.

WAR is just too cartoony like WOW. I couldn't get into WOW, and I doubt WAR will be any different. Shame because I used to play the tabletop Warhammer. I want to like WAR, but I can't stand the Cartoony WOW style look. Not saying the mechanics are WOW. I am just talking graphics.

I will try it and judge at that time, but what I've seen is what I am going on.

Future MMO's I am watching is Earthrise and Fallen Earth.

Right now I am on EVE and AOC. AOC's combat is alot of fun. The PVP server is a blast.

People are totally overhyping issues that AOC has. That's fine, because it will take most of the annoying short attention span kids and bring them over to WAR. Enjoy!

And what do you get: a complete broken game system.

Not that anyone believed the BS you been spouting anyway but you just lost any semblance of honesty or sanity in your above statement that EVRYBODY did better in the last 3 years. There are many like VG that did alot worse. At one point I thought you might not simply be a troll, but the lies, you been spewing show what you are and what your OPINIONS are realy worth.

See you in about 4 months when you spew more of the same BS about WAR because it let you down.

    So tell me,

WHICH part of Conan is NOT broken ???

And BTW I HATE lies, I never lied about anything on Conan, except pointed out about 3 pages of shortcomings, broken things and terribly bad designer mistakes.

So answer me one thing: WHICH part of Conan is not broken ?

I can't say for sure, but I heard the cancel subscription part is working.

Overhyping issues i don t agree with. Kids coming over to WAR, well duh of course alot will, but as long as your game has boobs and decapitations there will be kids. Now to answer the question yes without a doubt it s better to me anyways. I m in beta and can tell you theres actually end game content, sieges that work, pvp with meaning, pve galore, more then i think the average WAR fan knows. The best part is alot of it is interesting pve. Not going into details for obvious reasons:) To end i can say it s much more polished then AOC is now and i m willing to say will be 6 months from now, and it still has a few months of beta to go. Anyways play what you like but if you want a good game WAR will be it.

WOW player for 3 years now, started getting bored with like three 70 horde toons all geared out with two sets. AOC came out, wooo hooo, bought it, played it, cancelled my account, back to WOW, omg, didn't think it would happen. Have a level 20 Ally hunter that I started building because I've never played Ally, feels new, kinda. Waiting on WAR to come out, hopes it's better than AOC is.

Well to put it bluntly, it couldnt possibly be any worse......

Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.

I once gave WAR the boot as well like many posters here. I was interested in AoC for the promises it held. I also fell for Darkfall's promises too.

But now that I see Sieges and Blood money and such didnt launch with AoC like I expected. I am now back on WAR bandwagon. I am pretty sure Mythic will deliver because I'm sure they will test their PVP very well.

hopefully AoC will be a great game in time but I'm picking the more 'open world' MMO option myself. I left WoW on good terms pretty much and I am accustomed to having openess in my MMOs. At least on the level of WoW if you follow
