I love the graphics....I love the combat....I love the interface..I could go on and on about the so many things in this game that are really great. (BUT) there is one thing that will make sure I dont resubscribe after my free 30 days and thats "no open world". Everything is instanced and I mean everything. Every zone is an instance where you have to locate which one your friends are playing in and then go to that one. But you must be in a group with them to see which one they are playing in. Its kinda hard to explaine but it really does suck bad! I dont know why they even have servers when every place you visit in the game has like 20 differant instances for it. Its not like a normal mmo where you walk out into the woods for some pvp and see the same guy you just killed in the same area looking for you . Because once you or the other player leaves that area ......when you return to it ........its a whole differant instance with differant players. Like I said its kinda hard to explaine and I guess you will have to try it for yourself....some may like this new mini server instance thingy within the servers but I cant stomach it at all. I like a huge free open world with in which I can run across the same people on my server at anytime anywhere! Today was sad for me...i really wnated to love this game and it has so much potential. I think people are going to misunderstand me and for that I apologize for I am not the greatest with words. What I mean when I say no open world is...lets say everyone on the server for any given day wanted to meet in a certain zone to auction off items or pvp or just for the hell of it. We wouldnt be able to because everyone on the server is split into differant instances even for the same zone. Me and my friend logged on at the same time today and where in the same city standing next to the same gate but could not see or hear eachother outside of tells. We had to form a group and the join the same instance so that we could be in the same city at the same time..make any since? No open world= No open wallet from me in the MMO universe. Good luck to AOC and those who do enjoy its "very" limited freedom.
The whole game is not Tortage. Get to level 25 and come back and tell us this.

dint read all but at the concern of pre loading is a form of zoning i must say i totally disagree with that.
WoW uses a System of sub zones where the acutal sub zone is fully loaded into your memory and the 8 zones around you will only hold the geometry in a very basic form.
The only real surplus of WoW is that it uses what many AoC Players call "crappy" graphis but imho it was not only for Warcraft Graphic Style it also was used to enable WoW beeing as massive looking as it is.
It gives the people playing it a feeling of wideness and freedom.
The so far only known loading screens are when you zone in an instance and in the BC starting zones as well as the 2.4 patched island this keeps zoning at a very limited number.
I dont play AoC because it dont fits my playstile still i say its in its on way a rather nice game tho.
Dont unterstand why people must hick hack one another just because they like / dislike a ceratain MMO.
I agree but even without an open world its still better than any other mmos right now. how long i subscribe depends on how good the end game is. I'm hoping I was wrong all along and WAR is better. but I doubt it.
its an lmo a limited multilpayer online game . theres nothing massive about it .but that does nt make it a bad game . its not its just the first great lmo .
While I understand that people will disagree as to whether the game feels small and feels like they're playing in a sandbox rather than like playing in a huge and consistent world, I feel that if it doesn't feel like one huge consistent world, then it does not warrant a monthly fee.
Couple with that the player limit per zone, the problem is a deal breaker for me. Guess I'll just wait until Warhammer comes out.
Okay, first off we had people de-railing the thread because people were getting confused between 'zones' and 'instances'. Now, in the last couple of posts I am reading about people who think the definition of a 'sand-box' game is one where you are limited to small, sand-box sized zones. This is not what a sand-box game means. It is to do with player user content, etc, and nothing to do with size (er, hopefully only time in my life when I am talking about size!).
The problem is that people keeps comparing AOC to WoW.. AOC is not ment to be a wow look a like..
I Enjoyed Diablo 2, and that was a zoned game.. I also love AOC, thats also a zoned game. I also like WoW, but im not comparing it to AOC..
Did I miss something? I've read every post in this thread and, until yours, no one mentioned WoW.
Where does the OP say anything about being a WoW look-alike? Or about them wanting it to be a WoW Look-alike? Or... could it be that you invoked that completely out of the blue simply so you could counter and/or dismiss the OP's argument outright?
Someone else threw out the over-rated and over-used "Well what level did you get to?" argument. Again... another attempt to dismiss the OP's opinion based on some arbitrary "bar" conveniently contrived to disqualify it. They've earned their right to an opinion, just like anyone else by having bought and played the game.
Does it matter what level they got to? Especially when others are saying it's the same even beyond level 20 or whatever? It's no different than how people will use post count to quality or disqualify someone's opinion when they disagree with it.
That said... It's not a "WoW" thing. It's a MMO thing. What the OP is missing in AoC is a seamless, contiguous world where everyone coexists in the same area, at the same time - not in instances. I, for one, agree with him because that drives me nuts as well. It drove me nuts in Guild Wars when in the "hub" areas, it annoyed me "back in the day" when Anarchy Online was more populated and there were multiple instances of a given area.
It's the OP's right to dislike it as much as it is others' right to think it's fine. Don't have to agree with them, but for cryin' out loud... would you people learn to simply disagree with an opinion you don't share, and stop trying to shoot it out of the water, or discredit the person voicing it?
Look around you. Everyone is comparing AoC to WoW.. Maybe it isnt mentioned by name, but its prette clear that people are thinking of WoW, when you red their arguments for AoC beeing bad.
erm i ve seen more posts comparing it to guild wars . imo they are right . the only difference being theres no monthly fee for gw .
I understand what you mean man, I was gonna buy the game next week but then I googled open world AoC and it said that it's instanced, not open. I've played Tabula Rasa and it sounds a LOT like it. he zones have many copies of it. I want freedom. I'm really disapointed cuz I was really looking foward to this game. Guess I'll have to find another MMO cuz after playing 3 years of WoW , it gets annoying.
Btw, anybody knows of a good open world MMO? (not instanced liek guild wars or Tabula Rasa or ... AoC)
This is pretty much the reason that i dont play Age of Conan atm. The world is just too linear, after that zone you teleport to that zone and after that zone teleport to another zone. And the world got too much instances and loading screens, the world in Age of Conan doesnt feels like a world at all.
