Hey genius, read about the game.  There's like this thing called "insurance."  You can like "buy" it with "money."  It like, "gives" you your gear back.

    Way to fail.

Doesn't EVE have full/partial loot? That game seems to be doing just fine with it... Besides, looting makes it that much more exciting.

There was another little game that launched with PvP loot, you might have heard of it: Ever Quest.

the difference is that Eve has safe zones, and Earthrise doesnt.

A bit disingenuous.  While there is no mechanic in the game which technically prevents a player from opening fire on another at any time there are strong, and harsh, NPC countermeasures in place in certain locations (like Sal Vitas, the capital of the city-state Continoma).

So if you want to kill some newb get ready to have an NPC storm on top of your head.  Plus you lose all of your gear if killed whether it was insured or not.  And the massive repercussions with reputation., et cetera.

its easy to run and hide in EVE and when you dock in stations you cant be attacked, but , you still have to undock to move anywhere else in the eve universe. no point playing if you dont undock.

once your undocked EVE has the same system that you detailed. while its possable to attack someone in the high-sec (npc policed) areas, your aggression is met with extreme prejudice.

the golden rule everyone learns fast in EVE is "you don't fly what you can't replace". its a geat system that is clearly working for EVE, i dont see why it can't work for Earthrise as well.

    I understand your worrys.

And i agree that FFAPvP doesnt work in class/level based MMOs. So then its a nice to know that Earthrise will be skill based and FFAPvP will work fine for that gameplay. Just as it does in other skill based MMOs as EVE and UO.

That makes it a lot like EVE. Actually there are players in EVE that will start kamikaze attacks on transports with expensive freight. If successful, a buddy of the attacker will loot the victim. But it always costs the attacker's ship.

Apart from that, EVE has both safe zones (exception from "safe" see above) and unpoliced areas with completely open PvP.

Hey op please do some research on the game before you start throwing out wild statements like you did! Go look at the official forums especially the Question of the Weeek sub-forum! There are some planned game mechanics to stem PVP kills in certain areas. Also ever hear of a game called Eve online? Well that game is going pretty strong and has full loot PVP!

  • beaverzbeaverz Member Posts: 660

The thing is that in eve 0.0 pvp where ppl loot each other is an alliance wars system. And most ppl dont pvp with their top stuff, facion ships, plex mods...

They use the stuff that their corp produces which makes pvp pretty inexpensive if your in a decent alliance.

Sure some regular mmorpgs have pvp loot but how many of them were really succesful?

Going full loot pvp mean aimoing at the most hardcore players, the same player that dont mind doing 6 hour raids to get a pair of glove that give only a few stat point more that the regular stuff.

Dont compare eve with other mmorpgs, its a life simulator, not a game.

I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long.

Yes, because every game from now on will have Epicz and Raidz. Just like in omgwow

I think the full loot could work with insurance, the reason I won't be playing is the auction house instant shopping economy. Unfortunately that's an MMORPG deal breaker for me.

He means the lack of player run business.  A player can't be a great crafter and setup a true storefront like old school SWG or Entropia Universe or whatever.  Players just craft stuff, throw it on the Earthrise E-Bay, and then once it's bought it's just auto-delivered to the buyer.  This was all covered in one of the QOTWs awhile back.

I agree with him.  I don't care for the instan-auction stuff either.  On the other hand it doesn't bother me enough to not play the game.

You dont have to use the AH to sell items if you dont want to.

The AH is mainly for when you dont have time trying to sell it, or to just "post and forget" the item, go do something, and it either sells or doesnt. The Auction House system shouldnt break the game for you, sorry to hear it, but its a rather absurd reason.

If you like selling things personally, go ahead, there is nothing in the game to stop you from doing so. Advertise yourself in chat channels and sit around in the main city.

Me, I'll do whatever is best for the moment. :P

and to people thinking this game wont work with full looting, go ahead and think that. Fact is, that the devs are implementing more than one way to keep your gear safe, and if you are so worried about your epic gear being lost, dont use it to PvP, or actually pay for some insurance :P

Full loot would work great in a skill based MMO. Quit whining about losing your items, they won't matter that much and it adds some excitement to the game. Go back to the WoW themepark if you want to grind forever for your precious purplz.

"The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
On we sweep with threshing oar, our only goal will be the western shore."

Jesus I don't want to be rude, but that OP was stupid as hell.  There have been plenty of MMO's in the past with full looting in PvP that have been extremely successful (And EVE).  End of thread.

Eve isn't fully open pvp. There are safezones.

which makes it successful. Eve has a happy medium. And tbh if earthrise doesnt, and does have "full loot open pvp everywhere", its going to drive alot of players away. You need a balance, which of course im sure the developers will understand. I'll wait for more info before i bash a game because of a small segment in some devlog or QOTW.

Lets not forget about Fury shall we.

Even though full-loot spices up the adrenaline for some reason.

I hope Death penalty's will be 10-15% of total xp

Those games actually do succeed. No carebears no whiners. End good all good :)

Ow btw, OP get your facts straight.

LOL fury? the playerbase is so insignificant, that it is barely Massive. And no the death penality's also, especially for a "open pvp" game. They would be stupid to implement something like that. The only XP loss in a game ive ever seen was Lineage 2, and it works for them because there are levels. In a SKILL based MMO, it wont work.

Earthrise will, if you check through the forums, there will be high security zones for people who dont like watching their back constantly. Though the areas are safe, the real rewards will be outside in low to no-security zones, mainly rare resources and such.

And there is no sense worrying about Exp in a skill-based MMO :P

Most that happens to you when you die is you lose whatever isnt insured, and even then there is a window of time where you can pay a fee to get the items back if they arent looted, though not everything is insurable, and the one who killed ya gets a cut of what you had to pay for insurance and whatever else there is lol

and they have a nice amount of QotW if you check, some are very interesting reads, specially the current one released, which promises to break the grind that PvE can be.
