Why should Bioware care the least of anything SOE have done? As long as they just keep Lucasart as far as possible for everything, they will deliver an intresting game, they usually do.
How many players did really even play the pre-Cu? How big % are they of the market and do you even have the right to expect another company to fix someone else mess?
But, yes... The game will be based on the D20 star wars for good and bad. And as someone said it might be more of a solo game with others around (like Guildwars I assume?) or not, but we don't know that yet.
AoC did make the misstake that almost everything can be played solo (they are starting to change that now, some of the dungeons you could play solo before is now only group) and while I still enjoy Guildwars, I like to group and interact with others. But to say that Bioware will do the same is way to early, wait and see.
Bioware is one of the best companies in the bussiness, the only thing that worries my is that Lucas art is one of the worst.
after reviewing all teh games i have from bioware, and what we know about teh team and money they have on teh project. Im confident this will be an incredible game. It wont be perfect. not everyone will like it, and im sure there will be things i dont like much about it, but i know overall i will love it. BIOWARE isnt some half ass developer. That name holds REAL WEIGHT.
I agree completely. Bioware is a real gem of a game company and I'm sure it's going to set a few new quality benchmarks with their Kotor MMO...
However, I fear that it is exactly their experience that might prove their downfall in the long run. What's awesome in a single-player may be horrible for a MMO.
I really hope they keep in mind that they are making a massively multiplayer game that derives its longevity from the social aspect of its gameplay. If they prove to be flexible enough I'm sure it's going to turn out great. However, if they blindly stick to some of those things that made their previous games so successful they might be heading into the first flop of their careers.
SWG vets that want a pre-cu SWG are all going to be very disappointed... it will not happen
Bioware will make the game THEY want (and their paymasters), and it will be done their way. I just hope they make it sandbox or i'll definately NOT be amoung their subscribers.
Originally posted by markoraos It is exactly the elaborate storylines (no matter how multi-choice they are) that work in distinct stages that is one of the worst ways to do a MMO. Just stop and think. You've got players scattered across all those various stages of various quests and stories... How are they going to catch up, meet and socialize? Lol "Hey I'm on 3rd stage of the 5th quest from the storyline c. What quest are you doing?.... Oh too bad, guess there's no point in us playing together then." See? It is exactly the thing which makes single-players great that is the death knell to MMORPGs.
There are tons of disgruntled SWG players who will take aim at this mmo if it is yet another non-sandbox, level based linear crap game with no real pvp.
I'm one of thos disgruntled ex SWG players and I expect Biowares Star Wars MMO to be class, level, loot, linear based and it doesn't bother me at all (although I won't play it if it is designed like that). Why? because they will start from the very beginning of the game like that and then won't change it into a 180 degree opposite design that they know the current players don't want and lie about it while they are doing it.
Just because it's not made by SOE I'll buy the game I'll even buy a collector edition for myself and another box for my wife as I know Bioware games are FUN and highly polished.
Has some SOE developers working on it though....half the team is made of them and half is Bioware developers from Canada...some old Ultima online people too...
I think Bioware is into a world of hurt now. If they think that an mmo with levels, classes, raids, wow gameplay like they said they love, will leave people happy they have bought the wrong IP. There are tons of disgruntled SWG players who will take aim at this mmo if it is yet another non-sandbox, level based linear crap game with no real pvp. There are tons of those in development anyways..
This is going to be a very hard IP to handle for Bioware and not the easy cash cow they might dream off. I know I personally will be giving them a tough time if they make a polished version of POST cu/nge SWG and push it to the market.... And I doubt I am alone. heads up BIOWARE... don't try to spoon feed us with wow gameplay !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Newsflash: Bioware DO NOT CARE about your SWG woes. They are in no way under any obligation to satisfy the meaningless amount of NGE disgruntled SWG vets. If they want to create a success, they would do well to ignore the SWG vets.
The OP nailed it big time. Bioware has a real dragon by the tail in Lucas Arts. And if you don't know by now, LA will by heavily pushing for a Jedi based FPS game.
There are a lot of us, just waiting to nail Bioware to the wall if they let LA push them around.
Be ready for a lot of negative publicity Bioware, if you listen to LA.
So many of you foolish people think this will be a real Wow challenger. Well let me tell you as long as Lucas Arts is involved it has niche game written all over it. This will NOT be your typical Bioware game, sorry to say.
I’ll tell you what bioware owes us…A True Star Wars MMO----Not WOW Star Wars…..
What is so good about having this IP---is it can be as massive as you want---however, this can also make it the worst thing if you cant do it right----Everyone and their brother knows about Star Wars—making it liner could be its down fall!!!
But making it a Sandbox---being able to be a part of a huge Galaxy, now you’re on to something .
Being a SWG vet---I will say this I’m not saying I want SWG-precu days---what I do want is what SWG/SOE/LucasArts could not deliver…. A Star Wars game that fills like I’m playing a Star Wars Game—I want the fill—the look---which I think Bioware can do. But if you are going to make the game liner then why not just make Kotor 3?
This is going to be hard for Bioware, they make great liner/RPG games---However, I just don’t see how you can do that with Star Wars and make it into an MMO….(I could be wrong)
But I will say this Bioware has never let me down, and they have a chance with this IP to dominate the MMO market…and I think you need a little sandbox—when you’re talking about Star Wars!!!
I like Bioware just the way they do things. Based on their track record we do not need to tell them what to do. Thats like you telling Blizzard what to do with Diablo 3, etc. Besides, I am a beta to launch SWG Veteran. I played until the NGE. The NGE was the final straw for me; with the emphasis on "FINAL STRAW." Meaning: I already had issues with SWG LONG before the NGE or the CU was even release. I remember every Tom, Dick, and Harry owning 3 rancors and having them inside the Cantina. I remember the long lines of Doc buff because it was IMPOSSIBLE to solo without quadrupling your stats (or even more....like 8 times stacking your life, sta, mind, etc). Combat was very broken. I remember running everywhere for a half a year. It was ok at first but then it just got old. I remember having to pay for the space expansion (something that should have been free from the beginning). I remember everyone being "afk" grinding away for the holocubes telling what the next step was to be a jedi because 80% of the server wanted to be a godly buffed up class. I remember them taking away the perma death because people started to complain about it. I remember the smugglers being absolutely worthless (still are), I remember the Droid Engineers being bugged for over a year and had a celebration when they got fixed a year later (they even gave you a forum skin option of the droids for their official forums when the update was released). I remember the credit dupe crises. (An Fwg5 blaster with the same stats went from 550 credits to 175,000 credits overnight). Only the honest players were truly left out. I remember when the CSRs of SWG banned EVERYONE that had a dupe credit on their account (whether they knew it or not). I remember several exodus out of SWG way before the NGE (one when FFXI came out, another when Horizons came out ...yes...people left over Horizons, and when the Matrix came out). This game was hemmoraging before NGE Pre NGE had their own share of problems wayyyy before the NGE.
And thus it is made plain why no one pays an ounce of attention to the SWG refugee kooks. Notice I did not say "SWG Veteran". Enigma here is an SWG veteran, no one can say he is not. But he is not a refugee kook. He tells it like it is/was.
Fact is SWG had tons of problems and not all of them were bugs. I have personally exploited many use based system. They are known to cause AFK grinding. There is a reason they are barely used anymore. Yet if the kooks had there way Bioware would be making a use based skill system. Well I like skills and do not like tied down classes, but I still understand that used based leveling is most likely not a great solution.
Yet the SWG kooks act like it was the best of all possible worlds (yes that is a Voltaire reference). The normal SWG vets act like anyone else. The SWG kooks go around and make a tons of noise and everyone just thinks they are kooks living in la la land ignoring the things everyone else recognizes.
I dont think bioware gives a shit about the few SWG vets, they are going to make the game the way they think is going to be fun which I fully trust. So tough shit, deal with it.
I think Bioware is into a world of hurt now. If they think that an mmo with levels, classes, raids, wow gameplay like they said they love, will leave people happy they have bought the wrong IP. I am an SWG vet and I do not feel the way you do. SWG pre-NGE was good, but it had its failings and needed a lot of work even before the NGE fiasco, however I think you're delusional if you think Bioware is going to deliver a game to appease the disgruntled SWG vets. It ain't going to happen. What we should all hope and pray for is a game that delivers the Star Wars Universe as it should have been done and pray that it is a "fun" game....emphasis on "fun" and not a grind fest from hell.
Hey OP, Bioware owes you and all the other SWG fans absolutely nothing. They are free to make their game in a manner that appeals to the most subscribers, something they seem to have a nack for in the past. Odds are they won't be giving you a 2nd thought.
tpoz34, BioWare don't owe you shit, they've been making quality games for years, you don't know a fucking thing about their MMO so lay off. Honestly lots of you SWG vets seem to think that you are above other MMO gamers and should be given special treatment...
I never said i wanted special treatment------
did you read my post...I said 2 things that Bioware ows me(and i think it goes for everyone)
And that is---- and the 2 below is what Bioware and this IP owe me( A paying customer)
1.True Star Wars MMO----Not WOW Star Wars…..
2.what I do want is what SWG/SOE/LucasArts could not deliver…. A Star Wars game that fills like I’m playing a Star Wars Game—I want the fill—the look---which I think Bioware can do.
Bioware does quality games. I don't want a WOW replica..but similiarities are probably unavoidable. A good, fun. expansive, immersive reasonably polished sci-fi game is long overdue..(I see the appeal of EVE online..but it's just not comprehensive enough for me)...A great sci-fi MMORPG of Biowares design...and StarWars to boot...I'll save judgement until the game hits my computer...but i believe it will rock hard.
It doesn't bother me that Bioware developers have stated they are playing WoW. Why should it bother anyone, I mean honestly I would be more afraid of them saying they are playing SWG and loving it. There are a lot of features and depth that I would like to see added to WoW that will just never happen, and if I can play a Sci-Fi game that actually turns out to be an improved clone.. nothing wrong with that imo.
Look at Vanguard and some of the boasts that were made before it launched about stealing players away from WoW. Funny thing was that none of those developers, or people PRing the game had played WoW. I wouldn't say that Vanguard launched as a WoW clone.. it took most of its ideas from EQ and aspects of EQ2. People seem to forget that WoW was dubbed a clone when it launched, and now it would be more fitting to label games a clone of a clone game. Anyways haha, I think that Vanguard would have been better off if they had a few people on the team playing WoW, and they were able to share knowledge of where WoW has taken the market rather then relying on the idea that WoW was still just an EQ clone that could be conquered with the crowd that wanted a harder game.
I like Bioware just the way they do things. Based on their track record we do not need to tell them what to do. This is all so true
I remember when I first got to novice bounty hunter, I was so excited to go out there and hunt marks, even though they were NPC marks (PC marks were promised for a later release) and half of them never even spawned in the location that they were supposed to, and when they did, I needed to have a rancor or AT-ST out in order to kill them, yet they conned yellow, it was sort of amusing. Once they more or less "fixed" NPC marks, they decided to put in Jedi bounties, and those were even more broken than the NPC marks had ever been...half the time your droids would give you an incorrect location that would continually update in the same place where the jedi had probably been an hour ago, and the other times the jedi would simply log off (whos idea was it to make it so that the game TOLD the jedi that they were being followed? Yeah cause you're going to notice a tiny probe droid flying by you while you're fighting three guys at once am i right?
SWG was never the perfect little world that SWG vets want to make it out to be...Yeah, it was better than NGE, but that's not saynig very much at all...it had its moments of "wow that's cool" but they were few and far between...As a master teras kasi artist in that game I could solo kill bull rancors without breaking a sweat or using a single move other than auto attack, you want to tell me that this is working as intended? Oh and Holo grinding! I believe that this was pre-CU and WOW was it a miserable design choice...and let's not forget the glory of buggy vehicles after they were released nearly a year after the game went live...and how they made creature mounts completely useless...and useless professions like Bio engineers...wow...bio engineers, are you serious? The only reason anybody did that profession was to get a jedi holocron out of the way...Useless professions like bio engineer and smugglers made the game come down to four or five professions that were actually useful, and some of those professions didn't make sense to even be in the game...pikeman? One handed sword master? COME ON
SWG launched as a bug ridden game that pissed a lot of people off, and yet it has spawned these ultra loyal fanboys who look back on it as if it was this paradise of star warsy goodness, and that simply is not the case.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
Whatever the op has been smoking..I sure as hell DON'T want any of it.
I'm a "SWG Vet" and a so called,by the people that run this site,"forum terrorist" But my hatred of SOE doesn't blind me to other games and or companies like it seems to do to other people.
SWG is gone...And i really don't hold out much if any hope that we will ever see a game like pre-cu come out and be done "right". Fallen Earth is the only one i've run across that looks to hold any promise at all.
All that being said.I'll be looking forward to seeing what Bioware has to offer in their mmo.
We need a quality mmorpg based on Star Wars. And it wouldn't take much to beat the p.o.s. that we have now.
I said it before , hundred times on this forum : I dont know why SWG vets are so excited about KOTOR MMO , Bioware will do it nothing like pre NGE.
There is many things Bioware is known for , but non of them is making Sandbox, classles, non-linear games.
Best example of what KOTOR will be like would be this: Take LOTRO as it is now. Add much awsomer graphic , make quests even better , and classes less WoW copy. Probably sprinkle it with branching dialogues and voice over ... and thats it Bioware MMO
Yes, but do you think those angry swgers are ever going to give it a rest?
I think Bioware is into a world of hurt now. If they think that an mmo with levels, classes, raids, wow gameplay like they said they love, will leave people happy they have bought the wrong IP. Umm, let's see. There are really only 50 disgruntled SWG vets. The rest of the SWG players that quit in a huff because they hated the NGE don't care anymore because IT WAS THREE FLIPPIN YEARS AGO, and most of them are playing WoW now.
Oh, and there are 10 million WoW players. You do the math, just be sure not to get any sand in your calculator, because it won't work anymore.

The OP has reminded me why I rarely ever come to this site anymore. It's like it attracts all of the morons of the internet like a giant beacon.
You're retarded. And so is everyone else that speculates. Oh, it's going to be class-based? Word. No way, raids? Non-sandbox? Oh well. Hey, wait a minute...how do you know any of that?!
First off. I would most want a free classless skill based system like a game I play but can't speak of.
but before you start the flame of Bioware, remember KOTOR had classes, had levels, and was one of my favorite all time games. Bioware has one of the original SWG devs, among quite an impressive cast of others. Don't even speculate before you see what they have.
Bioware has been a rock solid company thus far. Do not think for one second they don't know they need to make a completely kick ass game to overcome Star Wars MMO past.
I have a feeling they are going to bring in the first, Next Generation MMORPG
Words of wisdom, "expect the worst and hope for the best."
I expect the game to be an EQ/WoW clone, AKA just a giant theme park level grind.
I hope it ain't (like with most MMORPGs in development).
As an Ex-SWG Pre-CU vet, my best hope still lies with the real long shot trying to bring back the Pre-CU themselves. There ain't going to be a professionally developed Sandbox for a long time, only weak independents & vaporware in the near future.
I'll believe in KOTOR when it proves my gut instincts and common sense wrong.

I want the new SW-MMORPG to be nothing like SWG was... in any stage of the game.
I want something new, entirely.
I don't want another 3 years of: "Bioware, I really like your game, but could you do 'this' like SOE did in preCU: SWG?"
I'm a 4+ year SWG vet. And I hope I don't hear the following words... ever:
Anti-Decay Kit
The Old Man
The Village
4/5 Holocron
Holo-grind 1
Holo-grind 2
Respec Jedi
Elder Jedi
etc.,...
Give me the real 'StarWarsy' and 'Iconic' game I'm looking for. That's all I'm asking.

Sorry kinda off topic
I'm currently playing Eve Online and AO (froob).
Im looking to replace AO cause its getting old.
Lets hope KotOR MMO is amazing like the rest of Biowares products.
PLaying: EvE, Ryzom
Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum

Yes, but do you think those angry swgers are ever going to give it a rest?

OMG EX-BIOWARE EMPLOYEE POSTING HERE!!!!
Goddamn morons.
the official MMORPG.com deadhead
SHOHADAKU
Words of wisdom, "expect the worst and hope for the best."
I expect the game to be an EQ/WoW clone, AKA just a giant theme park level grind.
I hope it ain't (like with most MMORPGs in development).
As an Ex-SWG Pre-CU vet, my best hope still lies with the real long shot trying to bring back the Pre-CU themselves. There ain't going to be a professionally developed Sandbox for a long time, only weak independents & vaporware in the near future.
I'll believe in KOTOR when it proves my gut instincts and common sense wrong.
