I said it before , hundred times on this forum : I dont know why SWG vets are so excited about KOTOR MMO , Bioware will do it nothing like pre NGE. There is many things Bioware is known for , but non of them is making Sandbox, classles, non-linear games.
Best example of what KOTOR will be like would be this: Take LOTRO as it is now. Add much awsomer graphic , make quests even better , and classes less WoW copy. Probably sprinkle it with branching dialogues and voice over ... and thats it Bioware MMO
Yes, but do you think those angry swgers are ever going to give it a rest?
No, they are going to b*tch and cry as long as there are forums that will let them post.

Wow so all this shit over the fact that all we know is its kotor. We havent even seen a screen shot yet. I like WoW. A WoW clone set in SW universe would be fine to me. though imo a sandbox to me fits star wars better though to grab a larger market it will have to be some what like wow.

I think that what everyone needs to do is take a deep breath and chill a little. So far all we have is one Bioware exec who slipped a tid-bit that their MMO was going to be KOTOR. A good reason for all the buzz that's going on but so far we have no idea of what type of game mechanics they will use, no concept art, no screenshots....nada! Already people are praising it as the Second Coming and the resurrection of pre-CU SWG or a total failure if it does not include features A, B, C and so on. Don't get me wrong, I'm as excited as the next person about the prospect and potential of this game but as a very disgruntaled SWG vet I think it's best that we actually have something more tangable before we can pass judgement on this game. When we have:
A) Confirmation from Bioware/Austin that, indeed, they are doing KOTOR. (I'm sure there will be
all sorts of bells and whistles when they do)
More info on what to expect as far as gameplay goes.
C) At least some concept artwork (screen shots and/or video would be nice too)
then we can make a better evaluation of just what direction things will be going. Until then I think it's a bit too early to fire salvos or heap undying praise to a game we know very, very little about at this time. If anyone out there followed the fiasco of Perpetual and Star Trek Online, I think they know where I'm coming from. But...unlike Perpetual, Bioware is a solid game company who has made some of the finest, single-player RPG games ever made IMO. Even though this is their first attempt and an MMO, i'm fairly confident that they will bring the same level of quality to their MMO as they did with their single-player games. Enjoy the buzz but don't get too caught up in it folks!
I wish that Bioware would come out and just let down the SWG vets now, rather than later, we all know what kinds of games Bioware makes...and it's not the type of sandbox game that SWG vets are looking for.
It's funny that I have to say "swg vets" to mean a particular group of angry SWG fanboys, rather than actual veterans of Star Wars Galaxies...I mean, afterall, technically I myself am a SWG vet, I played the game from launch onward, and I refuse to associate myself with these self entitled bunch of malcontents.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

Those of us who played in beta and in beyond are the "vets". The whackos are the "refugees".
When the sandbox part was removed, SWG lost the majority of its subscribers and never recovered. If BioWare is too stupid to understand what it means, then too bad for them.
The Game Industry is filled with greedy but blind people. BioWare would not be the first one.
It WILL be a level based system. The KOTOR games are based on the d20 pen and paper Star Wars game, so its pretty safe to assume this one will be too. That means levels, skills, and feats based on the Players Handbook. This game will not in anyway be based on or associated with Star Wars galaxies. Stop trying to make this game into its replacement. because thats not what it is, and noone has promised you that.
Actually for it to be based upon the D20 system like KOTOR then Hasbro and Wizards Of The Coast are going to have to be involved, I have not heard anything to indicate that they are planning another D20 based MMO in the works. It could happen, but all I am saying unless you hear about Hasbro and/or WOTC getting involved don't hold your breath.
I also think it's good news that Bioware are investigating (probably reverse-engineering) WoW.
WoW isn't my cup of tea in terms of the game world and lore, but I've played it a fair bit, and enjoyed it, and anyone who says it's a crap game is talking out of their arses. It's a fricken masterpiece of a game, and Bioware are doing well to take hints from how it's designed.
They've also said there are things about WoW they think could be better, and nobody would dispute that. If they can actually improve the basic WoW template, then they will have a winner on their hands.
Also, the thing to remember is that the Star Wars universe to most people nowadays doesn't mean as much as it used to mean. The generation who were enthralled by SW when it first came out are now old, and to younger generations the Star Wars mythos is just one of many on offer - they won't be coming to this MMO with huge expectations that a SW game "should" be this way or that way. It's still a well-crafted universe with great lore, so that's already a great foundation for an MMO - and the "secret weapon" of having a game set in the Old Republic is that it's not tied to the mythos of the original films. It allows the player to have a more open-ended feel. They can think of themselves as being a great Jedi without feeling they can't fully express that because they're in the same world as Yoda.
In actual fact, a lot of people who play this MMO won't be Star Wars fans as much as KOTOR fans (and remember that game was huge at the time). The major excitement and mounting anticipation has been people who played KOTOR and felt as they were playing it that the game world would make a fantastic setting for an MMO. There must be very few KOTOR players who didn't think that at one time or another.
So I think a game set in a Star Wars universe, and not the restrictive world of the films, but the open-ended, mysterious world of the Republic in its glory days, with substantially WoW-like gameplay, but improved in some areas, is going to be a smash hit.
I'm sure Bioware is well aware of the need for some sandbox elements too (every MMO has some sandbox elements, they have to be there), and if they feel they don't have the experience for that they will hire people who do.
All in all, for me the final confirmation that Bioware is making an MMO based on the KOTOR universe is the best MMO news in years, and I have full confidence in Bioware that at the very least they will make a game that's enjoyable and polished, and at the very best possibly even a WoW-beater.
Wow so all this shit over the fact that all we know is its kotor. We havent even seen a screen shot yet. I like WoW. A WoW clone set in SW universe would be fine to me. though imo a sandbox to me fits star wars better though to grab a larger market it will have to be some what like wow.

So far we have no "OFFICIAL" announcement from LA, EA or Bioware.
Not one screeny or even a feature list.
I can only imagine what these boards wiil say once there is an announcement.
And everyone needs to remember one thing...
Shortly after the NGE fiasco, Bioware was openly hiring former SWG developers for there new MMO.
Since everyone likes to speculate so much, here's a brilliant idea. Go checkout the job listings at the bioware website. Read the job requirements to get an idea what they are looking for. That should give you a good idea what to expect.
I think Bioware is into a world of hurt now. If they think that an mmo with levels, classes, raids, wow gameplay like they said they love, will leave people happy they have bought the wrong IP. There are tons of disgruntled SWG players who will take aim at this mmo if it is yet another non-sandbox, level based linear crap game with no real pvp. There are tons of those in development anyways..
This is going to be a very hard IP to handle for Bioware and not the easy cash cow they might dream off. I know I personally will be giving them a tough time if they make a polished version of POST cu/nge SWG and push it to the market.... And I doubt I am alone. heads up BIOWARE... don't try to spoon feed us with wow gameplay !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yup. also i don't think they realized how much infighting goes on between star wars fans. no matter what design path they take 50% of fans will not care for it. go sandbox and the level kiddies will hate it. go strict
levels and the old-school sandbox fans will balk. try to be all things to everyone and everyone complains
(see soe) that its not enough of either. i see it being kotor with online instances for grouping. however they have the hero engine and you never know.

The SWG "vets" who post on this site are an amazing bunch. First, they credit their relentless campaigning against SOE with the dismal state of SWG without acknowledging the simple fact that the NGE sucked so people quit playing. The overwhelming majority of those who currently play and who use to play have no idea about their little crusade. Then they proclaim it was their activism that inspired Bioware to create a Star Wars MMO and without them the development would have never begun, and now this. I played SWG pre cu and enjoyed it very much, the sand-box design was amazing, but the game itself was an unbalanced and broken turd that only gained a base due to the communtiy and the freedom the game allowed. So forgive me when I say that I hope Bioware makes a game in which over half of the stuff actually works.
Bioware into a world of hurt? What are you going to do? Send them email? Post on their message boards!? Oh no! anything but that!
I'm going to be rude here for a second, But SWG whiners, please, do everyone a favor and shut the hell up.
Bioware will make their OWN game, in case you haven't noticed yet the name of the game is Knights of the old republic online, Not "Bioware presents Star Wars Galaxies: PRE - NGE edition".
Bioware does NOT owe it to you to create a pre nge SWG game just because they are using the star wars license. They will make their own game.

Ah, but you completely missed the point of the thread. It is not Bioware making this game, it is Lucas Arts and Bioware, notice which name I placed first in this sentence.
Lucas Arts thinks they know what MMO players want and that is a very FPS like game. Bioware truely has a dragon by the tail. We will have to wait and see how this match in hell works out to see if Bioware can maintain the vision they have had in other games or bow to persistent pressure from Lucas Arts.
Personally I think it would be a huge mistake to try to make game like pre NGE SWG. I think Bioware should use their talents to make a better game. But I am dearly afraid that Lucas Arts will dictate otherwise.

"we became entitled by SoE"? Entitled to what? Entitled to point out what a bunch of liers Smed and the rest of SoE are? Absolutly. Entitled to expect Bioware... ok you've lost me, how does SoEs behaviour entitle us to anything from Bioware?

It doesn't matter one bit if Lucal Arts is involved or not, Bioware will probably be in charge of the design of the game.
All you have done with this post is get those people out there to say hmmm if there is this much talk maybe I need to try it for my self. Which in turn comes down to more sales for Bioware. I personally do not take much stock in what people say about a game, if I am interested I buy it and try it.
Sometimes the best games come from those that bash the most. While I do not like all Bioware has to offer there are some games to this day I still do play like NWN, Baulders Gate and the SW games that were not online. I will end up buying the Dragon Age when and if it ever comes out and I will not care how much someone posts and bashes them.
Furthermore, lets face it when it comes to making money there is not a gaming company out there that cares about the consumer or their wants and needs. As long as they are making the money they will contiune to do as they always have. To make matters worse I can not tell you how many online games have lost my interest because of people complaining about everything that is unfair to the point they change the game to cater to the whiners which end up making it easier to level, get items ect.
As for the SWG out there most will most likely buy a new game just to see if meets their expectations whether or not you posts like this are out, in fact as stated before you most likely got them to buy it faster by posting this.
When the sandbox part was removed, SWG lost the majority of its subscribers and never recovered.
If BioWare is too stupid to understand what it means, then too bad for them. The Game Industry is filled with greedy but blind people. BioWare would not be the first one. Moving on...
So if they don't make a pre-nge swg they lose a few thousand whiners? I doubt all 250k or w/e people are gonna sit there and protest w/e bioware makes.

I think Bioware should develop the game then drop it on obsidian's doorstep to take over because Bioware being locked into constantly evolving a mmorpg wouldn't be for them.
---------------------------------------- Talking about SWG much?
Hey OP, Bioware owes you and all the other SWG fans absolutely nothing. They are free to make their game in a manner that appeals to the most subscribers, something they seem to have a nack for in the past. Odds are they won't be giving you a 2nd thought.
I agree. It would be nice if they had some sandbox elements but I'm not holding my breath. If its a fun game that works as advertised then I'll play. Bioware is under absolutely zero obligation to make a pre-cu swg type game. Judging by their past work, they should continue making games they way they always have been.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

On top of what Gameloading said...ANY Star Wars game has Lucas Arts involved! It's sort of a by-product of making Star Wars games for some very strange reason that I just can't seem to wrap my head around...I mean, it couldn't be that Star Wars is the flagship of George Lucas' money making machine or anything like that. So what you are saying would imply that there has never been a good Star Wars game out there...you honestly believe that Lucas Arts didn't have a hand in the development of SWG? Give me a break.
Lucas Arts is involved in the KOTOR MMO, and possibly more heavily than SWG, and I'm glad about that...if they can make the game feel more like Star Wars, and less like a bug ridden "sand box" like SWG was, then I'm happy to have them along for the ride...obviously LA didn't screw up the original KOTOR games too bad, right?
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
I hope to hell that the KotOR mmo is just like WoW with lightsabers, because what the angry SWG vets don't realise, is that they have become a great source of amusement for many gamers and to have their tears dry up now would break my heart.
I mean, where else are we going find some old dude dressing up like the Joker, making a tool of himself all over the internet?!?
World of Knights of the Old Repulic-Craft for teh win!
I think Bioware is into a world of hurt now. If they think that an mmo with levels, classes, raids, wow gameplay like they said they love, will leave people happy they have bought the wrong IP. If you think they even care about the disgruntled swg vets then you have a BIG surprise coming. Todays MMO's are about making money and you had better get used to it. I personally like sandbox style games ,but they do not generate the money other style mmos have generated. When and if Bioware started another Star Wars mmo you can bet on this they researched what game has made the most money and how it did it . I have an idea that this new Star Wars mmo if it is indeed a Star Wars mmo that they are developing will be alot like wow you can bank on that.

It's not even coming out until 2010 at the earliest. I don't know if I can deal with 3 more years of this shit, if not more.

Those of us who played in beta and in beyond are the "vets". The whackos are the "refugees".
we became entitled by soe when they took pre-paid sub money and erased our characters.
real vets are those who speak the truth instead of defending a crook.
very crazy to blame the players for the bait and switch tactics of a company. take the blinders off.

So if they don't make a pre-nge swg they lose a few thousand whiners? I doubt all 250k or w/e people are gonna sit there and protest w/e bioware makes.
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.
If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms

I think Bioware should develop the game then drop it on obsidian's doorstep to take over because Bioware being locked into constantly evolving a mmorpg wouldn't be for them.

Talking about SWG much?
