Isn't it being a "hater" if you just assume game will be bad? OR  If you're in beta isn't this a violation of NDA?

In either case you make yourself sound like a troll.

Objectivity will serve you way better even if the game is bad.

I for one am waiting to try it for myself.

what's the scoop on beta play?

do we get to keep the names when it is gold?

do we get to keep the lvls when if is gold?

or does it all reset to 0 and you have to re-register your name and everything?

You won't keep anything from Open Beta -- There's going to be a "Head Start" program for that.

So if you play a "Drizzt" or "Sephiroth" (Or Sepheroth, Sepheeroth, Sephoroth, etc) you better have a good guild to reserve the name during Head Start, or get in first on your own.

Or better, try to create a name that's not a blatant character ripoff to define yourself. ;)

Also, if the game WASN'T in "just polishing" mode by now, I'd be scared and wouldn't have counted on a Fall release. During the last few months of beta, the focus needs to be on making the launch as painless as possible.

Thats the curse of being in beta. If the game isnt really ready for release you cant say YOUR WRONGGG! Its nowhere near close to release! The movements bugs, the animals are loopy and half the skills need to be revamped, or some such thing. Whereas if the game is good you cant say that either.

Suffice it, I WISH I could tell you what its like

As for the stuff they took out of the game, not a issue, I assure you. Ive been in several beta's which did just that and I can tell you that taking out stuff and putting quests back together is much easier then the initial writing of them. Sigh, again I cant tell you how there doing though.

I will say this. DONT assume its finished or broke. Games always are broke to some extent on release. War wont be any different.

The cities don't change gameplay or amount of content at all so they really just removed 4 classes.  The 20 classes still in game are plenty.

Everything will be delete and start anew.

Glad that they are ready to release.... can't wait.....

It's amazing how much polish is added when you take out 4 classes and 4 cities!!!! Its addition by subtraction!!

Honestly, if it is ready to be released then why not drop the NDA, when I see this happen then we will see if it is ready to be released.

Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there,
80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters.
Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior,
and he will bring the others home.

Hey great arguement! We haven't heard THAT one before and we definitely haven't told people over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over that if they want all of that content they should wait 6 months until it's in. No...and Mythic definitely didn't delay that content so they could make the other content more polished.

    1 - (-1) = 2

when you subtract a negative from a positive you get a greater positive. Thank you and good day.

Paul says it's ready to be released but then says they're adding polish in the same breath. He probably means that all the core concepts are down - the RvR, guild system, graphics (they have the final system even if it's not implemented yet, same with animations), PvE, stats, skills, etc. But they're probably in a semi-rough state - not unplayable, but not as enjoyable if they were polished. If they lifted the NDA now they would still be polishing up until release, but we would get people complaining that the game is unfinished right when NDA is gone because the polish they're so used to isn't quite there yet.

Better to wait just a little longer, I want it to be very similar to what the final product will be when they lift the NDA.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

I will be the idiot standing in front of best buy at 6:00 AM running in to buy it on sept. 30th

some people may cancel their CE preorders when they try the Open Beta

I personally have CE pre-ordered myself

but  the game may not appeal to everyone who pre-ordered

  • Wasn’t it just a couple weeks ago that they removed 4 classes and 4 cities from the game?

I see it different than him though. Looks like that was the right idea. I could care less about having less cities. I actually prefer it, anyone remember the NElf city, even before BC? it was desolate, even when the AH’s were added.

As far as classes go, there are still 20 race/class combo’s. Not low at all. Also means that those other 4 classes will likely be added in the first expansion. Something more than a couple races in an expansion will be nice.

After almost 10 years of MMO's, yes I assume games are bad till proven otherwise ^^ The statistics are with me. I'll be just as happy if it proves to be good, then I'll have something new to play, but until then, nope, I'm Mr. Negative :p

just a lot of "more money than sense" from what i've just read

no matter how many times players have been ripped off in the past they continue to fork over their cash - exactly the reason they keep getting ripped off

well, they say, maybe this time it will be different - maybe they are right but...............

Give the history of MMO's, especially the condition they are in at release, that's a pretty safe attitude to have.

You know there's always going to be the "armchair experts"....doing negativity runs on almost anything you can think of...the latest book, the latest tv show...movie..etc.

I'm the type of person that makes up my own mind.......no sheeple here.  :)

What surprises me is the "professional" critics who actually get paid to spout their nonsense.   I find on the whole....I don't tend to agree with them.

But...do what makes you happy.   lol

Just curious Pheace, have you played in the beta? Or seen the game in person at a gaming event like Origins, Games Day, or ComicCon? I played last year's version at PAX and was quite impressed even though the game was still rather bare-bones. Having seen the latest videos, I can't wait to give the game another test spin at this year's PAX.

I have nearly 28 years gaming experience, including about 5 years working in various capacities in the gaming industry. Yes, I've played my share of really bad games. But I can't understand negativity for the sake of negativity. WAR is getting great initial reviews and has won some big awards at E3 - beating out other top PC titles like Spore, Left 4 Dead, and Fallout 3. In other words, critics think this is a great game, not jus a great MMORPG.  I'm at least looking forward to playing in open beta, and if that sucks I'll just cancel my CE pre-order and use the downpayment on Starcraft 2 or Fallout 3.

All I can say is don't be this dude:

    1. Obsessed forum guys

    Usually plays: Nothing

    Favorite snacks: Cheetoos, Doritos, Fritos

An eternally toggled caps lock isn't an accident - it's a state of mind. It's absolute contempt for decent conversation, and often even the topic of conversation. Not only does the obsessive forumite not like games, he doesn't play them. If he did, he wouldn't have time to rant about how shitty they are in asinine forum threads.
