It is EA what did you expect?
EA may do some crap things internally and ruined some games in the past but they have atleast not in my memory ever pulled a Bait and Switch. This would be a new and rather low blow all things considered.
Is it true? Who the hell knows, but its certainly kicking off a lot of posts LOL
Fileplanet says a new beta of something 'huge' is coming soon, so if you combine that info with the gamestop info, one could assume WAR open beta on fileplanet soon
Maybe this is something EA worked out with Gamestop on...HOWEVER do not compare this bonus offer to the CE. The CE comes with a novel, minature, additional heads for character creation. additional quests and more
oh who gives a flying crap ... the whole big SELLING POINT and they used it in their HUGE blow out talks about the CE was always the beta access & the head start program. They rarely even talked or hyped up the other items.

EA is notorious with bait and switch.
It just the hate directed towards SOE in the MMORPG world in way allows EA to lurk in the shadows.
Just because something is a benefit of the CE it doesn't mean it can't be a benefit for a normal preorder as well. I never remember it being stated that open beta and head start were benefits exclusive to the CE, even if that's what everyone thought was the case.

True but you have to admit there was a perceived belief out there that was the case. And why some may feel this is a bait and switch by them.

Yes thats true - but they did everything they could to make it appear so - only Mythic employee would try and spin and say they never implied that - even the most ardent fanboi cant say they didnt for all intents and purposes give every impression the head start was CE only benefit when they wanted to sell them
There is no bait and switch, there is a ton more that come with the collectors edition then that actual bonus gamestop is showing. If you are that pissed off about it, cancel your pre-order on the collectors edition and order the one from gamestop.
I personally ordered the collectors edition for the novel and miniature, i can really give a rats ass about the 3 day head start.

I was expected something like this to happen if this is in fact true. I held off on pre-ordering CE because I figured they would just do the headstart and open beta on standard editions eventually, and I really don't care about all the extra fluff CE comes with.

level cap in an open beta is not uncommon and it is still just a beta guarantee invite with the purchase. Now if they left the the cap in with the head start I could see some major issues.

IMVHO I do not think it would be a good idea to impose a level cap for an open beta. Just because it has been done in the past does not mean it is a good idea heading foward in the near future.

It depends what level they cap at 20 I would guess might be the cap that's what LOTRO did . The only people that would be affected in the current timeframe lised for beta would be power gamers who try to max in a week anyway then spend the rest of the time bitching that they have a lack of content to play.

Mythic spin inc 3 , 2 ,1,
Someone call the corporate offices in TX and simply ask them if this is true and did it come from them or EA. These guys don't care and will tell ya.

Uhmmm... im fairly certain that they said people who bought CE gained access to the closed beta, and that all pre-orders would get open beta...
I don't think I've heard them ever saying CE gains access to closed beta, and if they had it should of happened recently.

Ahh, good times, good times!
Of course, because trolls cannot understand BETA IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE USED AS A PUBLICITY STUNT.
Mythic is using Open Beta to test, what the hell, what an amazing concept.
Yeah, right, they're using OB to test...because there'll be plenty of time after OB to change things. Oh wait, no there won't be.
