Am I the only one worried about the sudden influx of Funcom defenders?
With Avery posting misleading information that smacks of Funcom PR releases, and the multitude of Funcom shills floating around, has this forum started to degenerate into an extension of Funcom's PR program?
How soon before gamers start getting censored like on the official AOC forums in the US and the EU - and why is this bombardment of Funcom PR even here?
I thought this was a forum for gamers, not a company's billboard for damage-controlling bad press about its game.

If mmorpg.com had balls they would lock his latest post as misinformation (about full servers) and ban him for a month.
Unfortunately mmorpg.com is truly in the pockets of Funcom. Imagine you made a website that is paid tons of money for ads. Wouldn't you stay good friends with the company paying. After all mmorpg.com is just about earning money.
There is no freedom of speach here either.
The viral marketing, the open PR from guys like Avery, is picking up as FC is more and more desperate.
Try this:
Last night I sat refreshing the official EU and US AoC forums and also looked back at page 2, 3 etc. Look for locked posts and critical posts. The forums are swarming with negativity. It says it all.
How Avery will defend a game like this, where the company breaks faith and lies and cheat the customers, is incredible.
Well id have to agree, in actual fact i have been floating around for many years on this forum ,
Im usualy a reader i like to see what people post but my god after FC Lies and stunts i felt compeled to register and say my bit.
Freedom of speak is one thing but the feeling a corperate company can throw ££$$ at sites and forums to spread there miss information is a worring factor, im not saying there doing it here but after the PR i have seen from this company it does start to make you wonder.
As for there nazi style moderation they can keep it on there own forums , not lean on external forums to remove people who do not side in there camp.
Avery is spamming Funcom PR posts on these forums to drop the critical topics down the list. The information he provides is trivial and misleading.
I also note that the topic about Dominisi where Famine gets some honest, uncensored feedback got locked and is now disappearing down the list.
I guess I'm not the only one concerned about this.
We really need an independent mmorpg forum that is not paid by companies like Mythic and Funcom. Where we can discuss games with the censorship that you find here..
This forum is not independent and I think people forget that. This is all about the almighty $
I was on to him well before pre-release
Interestingly I got banned for making a reference about the aforementioned parties involvement in the Funcom PR scam and got banned for it, go figure.
If you look at his account creation date and compare it to the HUGE amounts of posts hes done in such a short time, Im inclined to think he either gets paid by Funcom, or gets kickbacks.

This forum bans all the critics. It is just not very widely known.
I suggest not flaming and keeping it all within the rules. Then they can't do crap besides grin and bear it. People like Avery will never respond to valid, intelligent points, just the ones they can spin and take out of context. If they feel they're losing a discussion, they will look for flaming and report you, so don't even give them the pleasure.

Um, what censorship?
If you launch personal attacks against other posters or try to sell gold you get your post deleted. Otherwise, things seem to be pretty open.
Can someone list some cases where the MMORPG staff censored something someone said about Funcom?
True enough, it still rankles that someone can go spend countless hours helping to trick folks into buying a shoddy game, but the moment you complain about the guy doing it, BAM, banstick.
This is a gamers' forum still and I'm not being censored here so all is well.
I'm just concerned about the recent influx of what appears to be rather aggressive Funcom shills, and I think it says a lot about what's happening with AOC that they are coming here in such a frenzy to try to paint a rosy picture like the one Erling Ellingson gave in his recent interview.

You have absolutely no evidence of any kind that MMORPG.com somehow is biased towards Funcom based on the fact they take money from them for advertising. You assume because it is possible that it must be true. In a court of law you could be charged with libel for such accusations w/o any shred of reasonable evidence.
Pointing to a locked thread on yet another rehash of flaming and hating on a game hardly qualifies. Way too many of you wearing tin foil hats here.
I play the game, its not great, its not terrible, it mostly works. I'll probably stop playing in the near future because its not really that fun.
But I won't launch into some weird vendetta or tirade about how betrayed I am about Funcom. Its just a 50 buck game folks, not the end of the universe. It sorta sucks, but who cares, its just a game.

Well, writing a bunch of "lite" reviews that fail to criticize AoC, Id consider that a form of censorship. Ive even seen them go on the offensive saying that "Just because we get advertising revenue from Funcom doesnt mean we arent impartial." Horse hockey. Not telling the truth IS censorship.
"Censorship is the suppression of speech or deletion of communicative material which may be considered objectionable, harmful or sensitive, as determined by a censor."
Lieing is not censorship. (and I am not saying that anyone was lieing).

I disagree they made a LOT of money selling lies on that box. Anyone who lies to their customers ON THE BOX is in the wrong. They disabled the server population load on the server list , followed by disabling the /who command to keep people from seeing the over all population decrease....
oh dude you crossed the line. flaming Avery? you have no soul
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
Lol these forums sure make me laugh.
We now have two people who support AoC (one in the extreme) out of the hundreds that hate it. Funcom must own mmorpg.com. Doom, doom, doom. The sky is falling.
Just to be clear:
- I have not noticed ANY censorship, not here, at all. These boards are free, for which gamers can be very grateful
- I'm only referring to the sudden influx of Funcom people, which I find is a bit strange
In no way has MMORPG.com ever allowed such a thing to happen on this website. Our moderators are independent and to be honest 95% of them don't know me or anything about the business end of this website. I am the only person who sells advertising for MMORPG.com and I completely isolate myself from the editorial and forum staff here, other than paying their salaries.
That being said, AoC ads amounted to a very small % of revenues in recent months. We acccept advertising from almost every major MMO publisher out there (CCP, FunCom, NCsoft, Mythic, SOE, IGG, Aeria Games, and countless others) - if we took "bribe money" from these companies you wouldn't be able to say anything bad about any game on MMORPG.com - and I think anyone that knows these forums knows that is far from the case - we are pretty darn liberal around here with what we allow...as long as you a) back up your bashes about a game with a reason b) don't de-rail someone elses topic just to spout anger and hate and most importantly c) refrain from isulting others
So if you say "Age of Conan is a terrible game because x, y and z" that is ok with us. However if you say "man, userBob you are an idiot and AoC sucks because x, y and z" you will get banned and your post deleted for calling userBob an idiot. Unfortunately when the later scenario happens users jump to the "you are in company xxx's pocket!" conspiracy conclusion instead of the truth, which is you broke our rules...plain and simple.
The reason users brew up conspiracies like this is quite simple - because a company like FunCom or MMORPG.com or whoever we are being accused of scheming with each week is not capable of proving otherwise. How could we prove we did *not* have a secret meeting with forum mods or how could we prove we did *not* take a bribe for $10,000. Evidence does not exist for non-events...it is the backbone of conspiracy theories everywhere...not just at MMORPG.com. What I can tell you is that in order for us to scheme like this most of this team would have to be "in on it" - and many of these people come and go in weeks, months or years. In the 5+ years we have been running this website I think at least one of these dozens of helpers would have ratted out our evil ways to someone.
I'm sure for the hard core tin foil hat folks this message will fall on deaf ears, but I take a lot of pride in this website and the team of great people that make it all possible, and feel compelled to state the above as I see it here all the time.

Perhaps you need to make a new bannable offense for folks who do PR for companies on MMORPG.COM.
As far as Im concerned the "culprit" helped trick a lot of people into buying a broken item. If calling someone and idiot is a bannable offense, then so should participating in one of the largest MMO cons of all time. MMORPG.COM has a lot of fans, myself among them. Id like for once to see you guys lookin out for us, as opposed to giving "lite" reviews followed by disclaimers.
Agreed with everything there, and I refer other posters to the message just before this one
The real lies and the real scam are the ppl on these forums saying FC is scamming ppl about AoC..the game while not perfect is far from a "Shotty game" as has been said in this thread.
WoW still has problems with zone and server crashes, sometimes nightly...I play on Emerald Dream which supposedly is on the newer hardware yet it crashes regularly and lag is sometimes terrible, so by the standerds you have set for FC, Blizz is scamming me and everyone on that server and all the others that have problems.
No AoC is not perfect , but its not nearly as bad as being said by the whinners on the various forums, some of the things that are being said are so far from the truth its obvoius half these ranters didnt even try the game they just jumped on the band wagon.
AoC right now is a good game, and the way funcom is patching every week(not every 3 months like blizz)most of the issues will be gone in the next few months, and just there is plenty of new free content in the works ... there really is little reason for the trashing thats been going on, unless its just that most these ppl are pissed becuase its not just WoW in another setting plus they screamed for there class to be made the best right now and nerf all the others and to bad for them, FC didnt do it so now they have been scamed.
Godz of War I call Thee
I don't think myself or my team has the time to actually figure out who is telling the truth and who is lying. We are not authorities on these games, many of these moderators don't play AoC or many of the other 200+ MMO's here. We cannot expect them to be judge and jury on these matters.
We have actually banned a lot of accounts in the past because we found out that they were a PR operation - but we had very solid evidence of this. I have also never in all my days seen a major MMO company doing this - usually it is smaller companies looking for a cheap edge. Big companies don't need to resort to such tactics from my experience. When you have millions of dollars you do not risk ruining your good name just to brainwash a few dozen forum users to use your game.
Hopefully you can see from our perspective the almost impossible nature of this request.
