How is it a "thing of the past" when it's only been the fade for the past few years. For the first 5 years of MMO history Beta was a sacred and honored thing. Now a days the avgerage shmoe expect to get into beta and get pissed when they don't. I never understood Open Betas anyway, the idea of a beta test is to bring people that can help make the game better. John Q Jackoff can't even remotly help make the game better and in all honesty just wants free game time.
Are you a bitter game dev or something? You just revealed your total unprovoked disdain for players. You'd rather players buy blindly falling for hype and become jaded at the industry. Hail to the corporation! Any dev confident in their product will release a demo or in a mmo's case an open beta. Open betas only hype a game more if it's worth crap. Bad games suffer. It doesn't get any simpler then that.
Actually I will probably the first person on an MMO forum to NOT claim to be a dev or code wizard. Honestly I am just sick of the undeserved sense of entitlement that people seem to walk around with
Wow, I'm surprised. I expected a much later launch date. I'm guessing open beta is just a thing of the past....
So did everyone else. Sadly (and I am not a WoW fanboy) I think they cut the content (stupidly cut at that) they did just so they could release the game early to get a head start on WotLK. Something I think will turn out to be a mistake for Mythic.

GG EA for screwing with WAR.
Better to cut content and make sure whats releasing is solid rather then pull a age of conan.
Also, most people think open beta is demo now a days so it's pretty smart to release it when the product is pretty much "finished" (eg. 1~2 weeks before hitting the shelves).
Obviously they wanted to release before WOTLK or they would've lost a lot of customer... suscribers or initial box buyers.
Open beta admission: Pre-order customers can experience the glory of battle and the thrill of WAR by participating in the open beta test.
Where are all the people that were bitching about AOC "Open beta" on fileplanet now? (even if they opened it to anyone a little later)
I thought WAR was diffrent?

Greymann to be honest with you, if you want an open open beta then you need to look at another genre because MMO's just aren't doing them anymore. Quit your QQ'ing and find another game to troll just because you didn't get to play the game. What is the point of your posts to begin with? They made a release date and your bitching about it? Seriously, find reason in your post and then come back, also whining about the open beta is pointless when your obviously not interested in the game.
MMO's aren't doing them anymore? Since warhammer right? As if they make the rules. Get real. Some people actually understand that not providing an open beta unlike other major mmo releases before them is a negative thing for many reasons. You're just mesmerized my friend. It's impossible for you to get it.
No free previews for Greymann awwww! Obviously only letting people who are interested in and CARE enough about the game to pre-order it actually test it to make it better is 100% wrong. We should get random hippies to do it because they'll do a much better job.
Care about the game? Neither fanboys nor mythic have given anyone outside the beta much to care about. It's a win win for me. If it turns out to be great I'll be there. If not, at least I didn't commit prematurely. Oh poor neglected greymann didn't get in in open beta and that first week of launch. I smell fanboy fear big time on this one. Hope some people don't have to change their avatars soon.
The thing is that i stated earlier, is this has been common knowledge for quite some time now. Bringing this up is redundant. If you think Mythic hasn t been open on info and given people things to care about, you re either blind or living under a rock.
Caring... lol
Right, you just want to get in the game for a free trial, a little preview to see if you like it, not to test. The game's better off without you so stop your bitching. "Oh but I will test you don't know what I'll do!!" I hope you don't come up with that kind of response, haha. You've already showed that you think beta should be a marketing tool more than a development tool.
If you don't think betas are a marketing tool you understand nothing about business. Dev's remotely confident in their product will use it.

Your attitude shows you care more about the corp. than the player. Not what I'd want to communicate in a community forum. I'm critisized for wanting a free or FP open beta because I think people should try before they're asked to buy blindly. Whether you think that's the reason for an open beta or not is pointless. It's good PR for a company to ask the community for help testing with no strings attached. A great game will only profit from offering a free open beta so why do they refuse? Mythic stands aloof. Not good PR.
and there you have the reason for the cuts to the game a rock solid, too early launch date

I'm not a punk so flaming isn't something I do but some of the people that are saying the game is being released to early actually have a reason behind that... I know people want the game to come out no matter if it's finished or not and those will be the same people that will complain nonstop after the release when they realize what we were talking about. Anyways... I know a MMO will never be finished or problem free at release but there are some things that really need to be tweaked/polished and if they can knockout those problems out before release then it will improve peoples first impression of the game. Don''t misunderstand me.. it's a real fun game and if it was released now people would have fun but I just want to see this game do real good and have a smooth launch.
Crap, so soon? I sure hope that EA isn't forcing Mythic to release to early... I rather wait 6 months then get another unfinnished game.
But maybe they do it the Turbine way: Release a little content at start and more later... Which is as bad as release it buggy.
Or hopefully, they can patch the game up in a month, but it is risky, if they fail they will lose subs faster than AoC... Why cant they learn from Duke Nukem forever
I just bought a copy to play with some friends and to see how it compares to AoC, which I'm still really enjoying. Good to finally know the launch date but it would be nice to know when the OB and prelaunch start and end (I couldn't see the info on the EU site).

You seems to have much deeper seated issues with corprate america than just me taking issue with Open Betas. I mention something on the state of the additude of the average player and all of a sudden I am some mushtache twirling villian and you are the savior of the people.
Mythic has always done things the way they wanted them done and in this age of craptastic, substandard MMOs I respect their willingness to NOT cave to forum pressure a whole hell of a lot more than I do some Joe claiming they have a bad business model because he may not get some free game time.
I pre-ordered/paid for in full my collector's edition so long ago now, I have spent at least 8 times it's value just going to parties, drinking, and movies. My thinking is, that even if it isn't the next best thing, I will still have some fun for atleast the open beta time, and the free month. Most games I don't like I will resub to after a month or so to see how its changed. I won't be doing that with AoC though.

It's not about free game time. It's what it takes for me and other frugal players to decide whether or not to buy an mmo. I simply won't spend $50 and commit to $15 a month blindly especially when previous developers have rightly spoiled us. All I know is they lost this homeboy's dollar at least in the hussle stage.
