    Did DAoC pwn EQ?

    No. plain and simple, no.

Maybe in the NA / EU numbers but there are just to many asian subscribers for any game to overtake WoW's total numbers.

Frankly I wish people would stop useing the "Will this kill wow" threads to troll. But with every new release that has any hype is going to get it so whatever.

OMG I am so a WAR fanboy

But even though this game will be amazing do I think it will "pwner" WoW.

hell no you have to be crazy, even though WoW is on a decline it still has something around 2 milll NA subscribers, 2 million! I think the next MMO close to maintaining a high population atm is FFXI but then again Japan falls under those sub numbers.

Is the game going to impact WoW, yes but It will not kill it WoW is and always has been a raiding game and people (god only knows why) love to raid.

Frankly I don't care, all I want WAR to be is successful and be great to play.

I played the Game that shall not be neamed for a good long while and I have 7 level 70's there but I just cannot stand the loooong big raids, but a lot of people can, and I won't be back the for the expansion.

I also know a lot of people who have just got into WoW and are dual boxing with their wife/ partner and they are loving it but I know almost every other MMO they would hate.

But all I care about is that WAR and it being successful enough so it can stay around long enough for me to get sick of that.

Nothing is going to "pwn" WoW except Blizzard's next MMORPG.  WAR is the first game to come along that will actually compete with WoW though in my opinion. It won't fall into a little 100K-200K niche like LOTRO and AOC, it will sit at 500K plus after retention.

Quality wise, this is going to be way better than WoW.

Subscriptions wise, this will not pwn WoW

But, "Qualitywise"  is a subjective thing

    Is WAR Mythic's first game?

To the OP, of course not subscription-wise, especially with all the sheep heading towards planes and tanks in WotLK. But fun and quality-wise I think it will, especially when WAR is 4 years old and there's another big bad MMO coming out to try to be the "WAR killer" haha.

The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

    who f*kin cares?

"OMG OMG I WANTZ WOW TO FAILZ AND LOOZ!! CRAPPY GAME GAME "insert game here" WILL PWN WOW LOL NOOBS!!!"

"insert game here" wasn't really what OP expected and OP prolly goes back to the WoW-fanboism stage

"OMG WOTF IS GONNA PWN ALL OTHER GAMES"

    vicious circle

(disclaimer, swap WoW for any other MMO)

I dislike the easypeasy gameplay that is WoW and it's lack of meaningfull PvP that's why I am anxious about WAR though it has his core-game design flaws, there will be no ULTIMATE mmorpg that will satisfy everybody's need, some people like WoW, some people will like War, some people like AoC and some like EVE etc etc.

Just quit with this hidious pathetic childish fanboism/hater shite, it's PATHETIC and it clods up the forum so I have to scroll through 473563 fanboi/hater posts to find the usefull information I seek

WAR will probably do as well as DAOC did vs EQ during that time.  Same concept of PvP endgame vs a PvE oriented giant.  They are probably gunning for about 1/3 to 2/3 of the WoW subscription base to try it and stay if it's good.

It will pull away the people bored with the limited WoW PvP, who liked DAOC style RvR and massive objective based world PvP which WoW lacks atm.  It may also pull some RPG and FPS people over.  Additionarly, it wil draw the oceanic players who want local servers because of bad latency.

What WAR lacks is the pull blizzard had from it's previous franchises like Diablo, Starcraft and Warcraft who gravitated to WoW because it's was blizzards next offering and got hooked.  It does have fans from the tabletop game tho, but I'm not sure how many of them will actually like MMOs as it's a different medium.

What WoW did for the MMO industry was to make MMO's more mainstream and a cultural phenomenon so now there is a much larger playerbase to pull from.

It will probably take another PvE game to cripple WoW's PvE subscription base if that ever happens.

If I was an MMO i would aim to expand into the asian market, there are some crazy people over there who have serious OCD which is pretty good for MMOs.  I mean most than half of WoW playerbase is from asia.

    Yes, total pwnage.

Depending on how you define pwnage.  I don't use raw subscription numbers.  I use my option of a game only.  As should everyone.  Different games are for different people.   The Sims have big numbers does that mean we should all start playing it?  No it doesn't.

No reason why WoW and WAR can't both be great games.  We don't have to pick a winner.

As far as predicting subscription numbers, I'm gong to say over one million easy.  But that is just a total guess and is completely meaningless.

Nope... the PvP community is MUCH smaller than the PvE "I want pretty armor so I can hang around the bank and show it off to bolster my ego" community.

it depends what it offers . to actually give wow a run for its money its got to offer something similar to some degree . the reason other games like conan and lord of the rings have not done better is they missed what people want to some degree or other . ( i personally think lotr is great fun for the odd months play and conan has some potential when its buggyness is improved ) . warcraft at the moment is still more accessable than any other mmo . thats not to say people dont want something new but they want something new and similar at the same time . theres a definate lack of emphasis on world pvp in wow if warhammer offers that in spades .....well it could be the wow killer . somehow i doubt it though

Give one good reason why it even remotely would have to "pwn WOW"?

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

YES!!! I left boring and frustrating EQ for DAoC - the best game I ever played - but this is for me. After WAR release some poor souls will stay in WoW - but this is their problem :)

Both will co-exist mutually and have different fans on both sides of the fence. Definetly EQ vs DaOC is a good example, but remember, we also had Asherons Call out there as well and was a fantastic game during its time.

Prime example, If WoW can't do this, then WAR can and if WAR can't do this, then WoW can. So we will probably see both games trying to out do one another.

People that play WoW have alot of time invested in there characters and I am going to say when people feel burnt out on WoW, then they will be on WARHAMMER to try it out and vice versa.

Guess we will be finding out pretty soon, especially after the first 30 days if subscribers stay or leave back to their favorite mmorpg.

I am going to say WAR will be able to maintain a million+ subscribers in the 1st year <this is my personal opinion>. And if I am wrong, I just set myself up for a HUGE bash on me.

There are 3 levels of 'success' for a MMORPG

50-150k subscribers = game on life support, no content updates except for paid expansions. AC, AO, AoC, EQ, UO, SWG  and basically every game out there.

150k-500k subscribers =  A live team that delievers free content in near monthly patches.  This includes only LotRO at the current time.. although early on it included AC, EQ, SWG , DAoC and UO

500k+ subscribers =  A live team and a company making more money than they know what to do with :)  This is the WOW catagory.

My guess is that Warhammer will have between 750k and a million subscribers.  This will put them at 10% of wow, but still easily in the catagory of games that will be able to financially support a huge dev team, which is all that is important.

Even thinking WAR will overtake WoW's NA and EU subs is complete lunacy!

Seriously people need to lay off the crackpibe about "how awesome WAR is going to be" hype. It's like saying Taco bell is going to overtake Dunkin' Donuts in New York, you had to be braindead to believe that, hell, Starbucks ain't even close to Dunkin' Donuts.

WoW is the only mmorpg that has somehow gotten out of the old gloomy belief of how mmorpg was/is.

I hope not, I hope it has about  500,000 subscribers, maybe even a million tops. Anything beyond that and it brings in all of the retards. I hope all the little kiddies continue to play WoW and all of the shallow graphic, gore and boob tards continue to play AoC.

  • ServaseServase Member Posts: 180

It won't simply because it's pvp oriented. There's a larger market for PVE than there is for PvP. Plus, 50% of the WoW population (if not more), is comprised of 12 yr olds and soccer moms. This game will be to challenging for them and most likely not appealing for that market. But like I said. The market for PVP is much smaller than PVE.

This game will be successful no doubt, but don't expect it to be a WoW killer. I can see it having 2 mil subs max, which is incredibly good. You only need 250k to be considered successful. So 2mil will be MORE than enough to keep constant updates and have many large player epic battles.

I will definitely be playing WAR. But I may play WoW as well to get my PVE fix. If in the event I can only afford one game. It's most likely WAR that will be my choice.

Honestly though, these are two completely different games. They can't even be compared/contrasted with each other. Why would you even want to?

Just play the game you like and ignore the other entirely. Don't waste your time and other peoples time by making dumb ass arguments like this. Heck, this isn't even an argument. It's just an opinion based situation. You can't say WAR is crap if it doesn't beat WoW and you can't say WoW is crap if it does. Their two different games and have their own qualities.

    Leave it be.

    Playing: WoW,

Played: Aion, AoC, Eve, EQ, EQ2, LOTRO, Runescape, Guild Wars, DAoC, Planetside, SWG, WAR, Darkfall

    Wanting to try: DCU Online

Waiting For: Star Wars The Old Republic, Guild Wars 2.
