Eve isn't fully open pvp. There are safezones.

safe zones mean I'm "safe" from all pvp. In EVE this is never true. EVE has 'safer zones' but never 'safe zones'.

Not to mention if you ever ever join a corp any corp can wardec ya. That means they can get you anywhere

There is no safezones in EVE. Safe zones is what players make for themselves in 0.0

AOC didn't go live with it, they chickened out.  I think there are a lot of features that a new game could make succcessful if they are willing to break with the WoW mold.  Earthrise is looking to do that with a few things, and this hopefully will be one of them.

In EVE large alliance pvp will almost certainly involve your top modules (t2) (faction stuff is left for carriers and motherships). Any alliance doing any serious pvp will refuse to let you in fleet unless you are flying fully t2 fitted ships. Minor exceptions are made but those are rare.

Ive seen 1st hand people ridiculed within fleet for either bringing t1 ships and modules.

That being said i think Earthrise will do just fine with full looting so long as getting back on your feet isnt something that can me recovered in fairly reasonable time. I look forward to this game since it may be the one game that breaks the mold like EVE has. May not see 12349087895634587 subs but thats not really important so long as it has a decent number and a good community.

UO had full loot, and i can imagine that ER will have the same perfect system as UO did.

And gear will be easy to replace. I cant wait to someone release sandbox MMORPG. Games without freedom and complexity maybe for you, but for me, its sandbox style!

Yes UO had full loot. And it was such a disaster that they got rid of it. And no game has done it since.

Yes, and look at how many full loot Fel servers there are now through RunUO.  A lot of people were outraged when they put insurance into UO, myself included.

A related note, the game's community was several times better before they added insurance.  Between Tram and insurance, the game and it's community went straight to Hell.

Once a true sandbox mmorpg will be released, it will have huuge community.

People from sanbox uo shards come in, angry people from the Darkfall will join too. Not mentioning the very huge base of people from SWG, who left after the NGE hit.

All in all, there is a very massive huge amount of people waiting for freedom and complexity. Iam one of them.

I remember making my first nail

which was used in making the chair

I miss the taming my very  first horse

Let Earthrise show everyone sandbox course.

Well yes and no. After Trammel was introduced a large part of the community started to leave, but to offset that there started an even larger influx of new and returning players. I was part of the returning players contingent, but not because I didn't like UO pre-Ren, I just had other things going on that interfered with MMOG playing. It's all academic now since Ultima Online is a shell of it's former self... What this demonstrates is simply that there are a lot more casual gamers in the world than anything else.

As for the full looting in Earthrise, it will be fine. Not every game system or MMOG is for everyone. There is a large gamer demographic that loves games with more open "sandbox" type features and harsher gameplay. It will do fine...

full loot is very discouraging for players, it promotes a very nasty way of behaving towards people who have lost, a game like EVE is not as "avatar" driven. It's one thing to lose your bag of gold, losing all loot is a bit like being demoted several ranks and nobody likes that.

Thing tho is full loot encourages virtuall communities for muterall protection in Dangerouse areas. Also when it comes to PvP the risk involved insures you think carefully before you engage in combat as the stakes in PvP are more meaningfull. Also a full loot system insures you no longer get the lame zerging fighting style where everyone just runs into each other to fight not worried about dying because they know they will be re-spawned nearby with little or no losses.

Full loot encourges more tactical thinking.

Full looting as I see it = high levels ganking newbies, so much they don't play. It's all fine if everyone is in the same type ship etc, means a good fight, but as soon as one person gets a head by playing far to long and sleepless nights, they then gank all the lowbies in easier ships and pick up all their loot and just get bigger and bigger, til no one plays basically.

    1. There are no "levels" in Earthrise.  Please learn about the game;

    2. You can purchase insurance which allows you to retain all items in your inventory after death.  Please learn about the game; and

    3. The starting areas are all high security zones where griefing will be very remote.  Please learn about the game.

Also, please learn about the game.  Thanks.

Carebears need to learn how to read before assuming cause a MMO has FFA PVP that it will mean certain doom for thier whiny sissy hold my hand selves. The new MMOs which will have this FFA feature in it are making certain systems and ensuring that in a FFA enviroment the carebears will not to have to be scared so much to come outsidfe thier glass house... get over it........read the game forums ...

WoW did the OP even read about the game?

This game will have insurance which means if you die you will retain all your gear and skill points.

Basically turning a losing pvp encounter into a decent sized repair bill.

True to an extant.  Not ALL gear is insurable.  There some "uber" gear might be uninsurable making them very risky using.  Also gear that are illegal in the cities will be taken away from you if it has been detected by the Guards.  They will take it off of you and you will lose it.  Insured or unisured.

Well if you are smart you can wear decent gear that is insurable and not worry about losing it.

Of course the really awesome gear can be taken.

Thats not the point, the point is people can rest easy and not worry so much since insurance will protect the majority of their gear.

I just wished players werent so afraid to lose gear.

I see this in Eve all the time, I'll try to setup a newb pirate hunting party with a few 900k skillpoint frigates and a bunch of the players are just scared. Even if I offer to pay for their lost ship and fittings.

People need to understand that gear in these games are designed to be recycled.

Everything in the game can be purchased over again so don't be so afraid.

In eve im not attached to my ship or gear its my pod pilot with his skills that i care about.

So I make sure I have an updated clone and if I do lose my ship I just run missions for a day or two no biggie.

In earthrise I will spend most of my time raising skills I will equip average gear thats pleasing to the eye that I can replace easily. If I happen to lose some gear I will spend a day or two with a farming party to make some money back.

For me it sounds fine.  I want to be a crafter so having some sort of decay whether by use or loss would be good for me.  Quite frankly if anyone that likes to craft or plans to craft should appreciate this system IMO.

I am a big carebear as well.  I'll be ready to make deals with hunters for resources from areas I'm too scared to venture into.

You're in luck ER will have item decay through use (no items will be immune for any reason ever unlike SWG and the retarded anti-decay kits they pumped into the game).  The specific of the rates is still unknown at this time though.
