well.. I guess another reason i just can't get into sci fi games all that much is that when i think of future weapons i don't see laser blasters, or starfighter wars, or stargate portals.. I think the reality of it will be more of unseen attacks never have a chance of survival, because If aliens had the technology to reach this planet they would also have the technology to exterminate it without us ever being able to defend ourselves. And yea that would not be so fun in a game.. I mean what would be the point in that? And if we were at the level of technology to do the same thing to them it would be... they nerf us, we nerf them game over. .. no players left because they were all destroyed and the universe is left alone to get eaten by black holes. LMAO
p.s. at least taking my heels off and beating someone with them is realistic. I could do that if I wanted to ..
LoL - Isn't it kind of odd that you are asking a forum made up of mostly guys this question? It would be better to ask a forum where the majority response would be females who play MMOs IMHO.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.
I am a female, and I enjoy Sci-Fi genre games. I do not enjoy Eve's "you ARE the spaceship" style. I really did like SWG back before they changed it to resemble another unmentionable game. The difference between Sci-Fi and Fantasy genres is simple. They are both similar in that what happens within those contexts doesn't happen in the day-to-day world. They are unlike in that Sci-Fi uses technological advancement as the basis for its outlandish parts, and Fantasy uses magic in much the same way. So in short - yes. Girls Sci-Fi.
We do not need to travel to the stars to find aliens. They are already among us. They wear dresses and lipstick, (or sometimes jeans and a t-shirt) and ask us to describe what we are thinking about a situation, when it should be quite obvious. We are thinking, this is a good football game, and I might need another beer in a moment.
I'd like a sci-fi game for a change, although I still like fantasy. But I agree with the above poster, I don't want to BE a spaceship, I want to be a person. Even if that person is an Ogre or Wookie.
I said yes, as when I played EVE there where a number of girls in the corp. Probably met more girls in EVE than about any other MMO, but then I used voice chat in EVE. I don't normally. =p

idk bout that.. i've encountered at least 3 times more males than i have females in my short time playing eve..
but really, all mmo's, whether they be sci fi or fantasy, leave a lot to be desired for all gamers.. but even more so for the female gamers.. and the needs and desires of the female gaming crowd are vastly overlooked by most developers.
but everyone has different taste-buds so-to-speak .. everyone is unique.. so you'll never find consistent answers to your question.. but at least i can tell you this:
yes, there are definitely at least a handful of females who do indeed like the sci-fi mmo scene and would really love to see a really good one come up and out.

I agree that my desires for a game as a female are overlooked. I will add that I am NOT speaking for all girls who play games when I tell you what I would like, but I will put together a short list of things that I think would be attractive to female gamers.
1. Character Customization Options - the best game for this hands down was SWG. You could wear pink high heels, and do your hair and makeup. Not all girls care about this, but you would attract many more girls to gaming if you give us a chance to glam up our characters. The Entertainer profession was great for us, and I knew loads of girls IRL in that game that had all their houses filled with clothes.
2. Houses - they are important! We like to decorate them and make them look beautiful, so lots of furniture, house styles, and options would be great here too.
3. Social Activities - we don't mind grouping, it's fun! It's fun to chat about things too, and whether it is a special holiday GM event, or just the guild getting together to throw an ingame party, this is very fun for us! Make the game incorporate social events as part of the gameplay.
I also invite any girl gamers to disagree with these if applicable. I dont want to stereotype us, but I know I would like to see more games that cater to women's desires, and I think these are a few.

The first thing that comes to me mind is Barby meets JI Joe.
It would scare me a bit to see things like this in an MMO, but I understand that women have to have their thing to and guys will just have to put up with it I guess. I was hoping that with the womens gainning more power in in the world they would leave dress up behind them and embrace the more combat oriented male approach to games instead using female characters. IT's OK to add dress up and dancing to a game, but it seems to sterotypical of what a submissive girl would do.
For me it's more about the game features rather than whether it's sci fi or fantasy. I loved pre-CU SWG. I loved the setting, non-levels, housing, and being able to be an entertainer. At that time, it offered things no other mmo did. However, I haven't enjoyed any of the other sci fi mmo's I've tried.
So I play fantasy mmo's by default. They tend to be packaged with the features I enjoy. For the past couple years for me it's been EQ2. It has housing, great crafting, appearance slots, great guild tools, and other things to do besides killing. It's not perfect, but the closest I can find for my tastes. Put those features in a sci-fi and I'll play it.

Maybe more stereotypical to be thinking that way. My husband and I both played musicians together. I was fully clothed in armor. We did it because it was fun to do, as did many men and women. There was nothing submissive there at all.

Maybe your right, but it just seems so typical of women to want to dress up in outfits and fix up the house "make it look shinny". Some guys like to do this as well, but it seems they are a lot fewer or do it to please their girlfriends/wives. Just watching my nieces it seems they are taught the same things that grils should like this or that and boys should like this or that. While it's better then it once was and girls have more freedom to do sports and other things it would be nice if more did so instead of choosing to play dress up IMO.

I played EQ2 for 2 years, and so did my friend (female) from SWG. It is a good game, I think mostly because of shinies. (JK)

Different strokes and all.
I get bored with the same ole thing even if the game has lots of content.
I enjoy female characters that kick butt, but I'll play male characters as well.
Personally I dont have time to sit in game to chat up others all the time but I do enjoy questing with family/friends and giving/recieving some pain in the way of pvp
To tell the truth the first thing that comes into my mind is why would anyone want to wear high heals? They are devices made by man so that women will look sexy, but they are painful to wear and bad for the body. If I was a girl I would never wear such a thing.
I think it might be worthwhile to add that women enjoy some of the same things as men do in MMOs or none of us would play them. I think gaming is stereotyped as a man's hobby, and a kid's hobby, and that is really hurting the female population on MMO games. If you could market a game to women, it would help.
I know nobody wants to think of traditional female stereotypes, but the thing is, as a woman, I can say that there is some truth to them. We like to look pretty. We like to make things that look pretty. We aren't all bloodlusting warriors. This is not meant as a blanket statement, but I think it would help to include some feminine aspects to MMOs. There would be some men who like it too.
For flat footed women yes they can be uncomfortable, and painful ( I have seen my sisters feet after we went dancing), but for girls like me with very high arches I am more comfortable in heels than I am in most tennis shoes. In order for me to even be able to wear most tennis shoes I have to put in high arc supports that often slip when I run anyhow or I am in sever pain. Now ballet shoes , or heels I am fine. There are only a few brands currently on the market that even make shoes with enough high arc support, and often the ones that claim they do, do not even feel like it when I am wearing them. For me heels are a blessing not a curse. LOL!

Yes but in a GAME your character's hair is never out of place. She can enter combat in high heels, run, jump, and swim in them and they never come off her feet. Oh, and we LIKE looking sexy too.
In real life, I wear them sometimes when I dont have to move a lot. They can be uncomfortable, but so can flip-flops and shoes with no support. There is a balance. Four inch stilettos? NO. Two inch heels, yes.

Yeah, but how can you run or do anything in high heels? If someone was chasing you for some reason or you had to run somewhere fast you would be in big trouble.

I like sci-fi as much as cooking and sleeping for 2 days straight. I remember playing Freelancer again and again. Sci-fi is good.
