Interface feels very Diablo 1-esque I think. Kind of reminds me of EQ1 the way the towns are laid out/expand. As predicted the graphics would be a fair amount dated, but looks very playable.

Always skeptical, but I like the way it sort of makes me feel like EQ1/Diablo1 type thingy. I know what I mean dangit!

Wow, I am waiting for the download link to come out as I cant be bothered with Torrent.

First impressions and taking into account its on Youtube.

Very impressed because the world does look truly large and open.  Some of the shots looked slightly old in style but others were just as nice as AoC.  I am expecting less huge amounts of detail in the scenery since they are focusing on large PvP battles.  The crafting footage excited me and I really hope its in-depth.

When this game comes out I wonder what all the trolls are going to say then and this footage has just put this game at the top of my list.

    Well done Adventurine

It looks like Morrowind in MMORPG form. The animations are a little rigid, but honestly, it looks like it's gonna be a lot of fucking fun.

Yea if you are watching it on youtube...realize that there will be a lot lost in translation.  Im not making excuses for DF's graphics, but they are fine and just not super detailed for practical purposes.  They are still very nice and enough to bring in immersion.

Im done with part 2 of 6 of the video, and I am impressed.

But I am mainly impressed with how long the video is and the time they spent on it.  These guys know what they are doing and with the beta and video comming today, I personalyl will just block every troll on this forum that could not open their mind and accept that this company may just do things differently.  And oh man are they delivering.

  • tsitluctsitluc Member Posts: 67

The animations are sub par. Obviously no motion capture used. They look very rigid..

The graphics look dated. But not horrible...

I get the impression from the video that the game is nothing more than a big Quake 3 Arena fest online though...

They showed crafting for like a split second.. and a PvE fight for a brief moment..  It seems like its just tons of combat with no actual substance..

Either way ..Now comes the important part for this game...

How does it actually play with hundreds of people or thousands of people online at once??

Will the code crumble? or hold up

  • TheodgrimTheodgrim Member Posts: 535

I just finished watching the youtube versions.  My first impression is a very good one - the game just  looks fun.  Sure, animations are a little clunky, but that is OK.  As a promotional video, it hit the mark.

I do wish it was more in depth.  I wanted to see more of the "how".  Even larger battles too.  But, I guess I can wait for beta.

It reinforced what I already know - the game sounds good.  Now I just need to know the game will run well outside of video clips, is reasonably balanced, reasonably debugged, and that their infratructure can handle thousands of players.

Just finished watching all  6 parts of it on youtube.  *shrug* Not going to say anything.  Anything I say would just be labelled as "trolling", comments about my eye sight, or comments about my judgement and/or intelligence.  So that pretty much just leaves me with saying, glad the video got out, even if it didn't turn out how I thought it would.

after seeing especially the ship combat, with all those cannonballs flying about, I cannot beleive that that is really how it's going to play, certainly over the net....

The characters and textures looked, very, very outdated......

    The sound effects were laughable.

Ok, it looks like there's a game, but I'd love to see how it actually plays and look once users actually get thier hands on it.

(and fyi, this is my first post in the darkfall forums, so I'm not a naysayer, although I have been following it for sometime)

After watching the video, I walked away a bit impressed.  I have not been a vocal supporter of DF, but haven't been shouting vaporware at every chance either.  I still have my personal reservations about the game, but from what I could take from the video, it looked good.  The enviroments were very nice to look at, but I personnaly am not a fan of their Character/npc art design.  As others pointed out, the animation looked quite clunky, but it is still in alpha/beta and they should improve.  Now if they can deliver the game they promised to, they will have my respect (and my subscription money).  I still doubt that there will be an '08 launch in the USA, but they could possibly push it through just before the year ends.

I just hope they hold a good beta with enough time for the testers to dig up any bugs, and the devs to iron them out.  Having been internally developed and tested for so long, once they set up their servers, I'm sure they will find a good slew of bugs once they open the beta gates.  Let's just hope they take their time in beta to get everything ready, and don't rush to release before the end of the year (if the game is still unpolished/unready by then).

All in all, I will again keep my eye on Darkfall for the moment.  Looks like they are finnaly building a bit of momentum and may actually take some serious steps to get this game into our hands.. Let's hope so, anyway.

I just got done watching the six videos on Youtube in high quality.  My first response to the videos was that the gameplay looks fun and the graphics and music are very nice.  Some people are not liking the graphics, but to me I need just enough to suspend reality and immerse me into the game.  And as I watched the videos, I felt myself getting drawn into it.

Some things that worry me is the lack of consistency though.  For instance, I thought the graphics and gameplay looked very encouraging, but the animation and spell effects, fire, etc, looked outdated and not really consistent with the overall game presented.

I can't wait for the game to be released.  I will probably let others buy the game and see some reviews before I make the leap though.  I imagine I will be busy with Warhammer Online, but if the game gets a decent reception then I will have to give it a go.

my problem is not with the graphics at all.

    1) everything looked and felt stiff....i know anuimations will be subject to improvement....but i wasnt blown away by it

    2) lands seemed really empty

    3) alot looks staged,,,in fact...there was very little in game footage

    4) the crafting UI part...i could have sworn we seen something like that previously....

    5) the ui itself...bleh

    6) i just don't get the hype for this game...while it looks good on paper, we still haven't really seen anything substantial. I would love for it to be real....but i still get the nagging - Mourning feeling. I will wait and reserve judgement if it ever gets released and people play it

Am I the only one who kind of likes the retro feel of the graphics? Aside from that, I think this is finally the game to knock Vanguard off its throne for best looking environments and game world. Though Vanguard still holds the crown for best dungeons :)

Seeing the ships fire from underwater, the skiffs floating down the river while people fish, amazing.

Only thing I don't really care for is the particle effects feel a bit weak. BUT the big thing to remember is that if the graphics were state of art, the game wouldn't even function. Look at Age of Conan's poor excuse for PvP. Barely fit 40 people in the screen before everything locks up.

yes you are i think. the graphics look like they are from a game from 2003 at best...

Even Asherons Call 2 back in 2002 had graphics that blew this away. As well as animations...

Just finished watching the Youtube videos.

The game looks promising, combat seems to be similar to Oblivion which is great imo.

The graphics look a bit dated but to be honest It could be a good thing I saw huge battles on that video and Im glad it looks like this game won't have a high system requirment.

the animations seemed a bit stiff but I liked that fact that i saw alot of fps type movement I will be playing Darkfall in Fps mode anyway since it looks like that's how it was intended to be played.

This game wont be for everyone just like other sandbox/skill based games it will be a niche but a profitable one.

    PLaying: EvE, Ryzom

    Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum

Regarding the graphics I am going to wait until I actually play the game.  I have the same issue with footage from WAR as well as screen shots but people playing the game are shouting out that the graphics when you are playing are just 'amazing'.  No game can look like Conan and have mass PvP battles so it comes down to 2 options.  Want PvP play a scifi game with lots of black space or a fantasy game without all the tiny detail..  Want PvE then AoC, LotR, Vanguard etc etc....

Gameplay will always out shine amazing graphics...look at Vanguard and AoC. Both struggle because people are not impressed with gameplay at all.

If I can jump off a ship and swim to another and board it with 30 guild members then I wont give a frog shit how good my character looks

What do you wan't man? Mass Effect type graphics?

This is a MMO everyone knows Mmo's are a generation behind single player games in graphics.

The animations are adequet for a game intended to be played in first person.

Real sandbox fans don't care if a mmo doesn't have crysis engine graphics we want a player shaded world that we could rip each others heads off in.

You never played a skill based, sandbox game did you ?

See all that land ? There to be built on by the players.

See all those houses ? There to be build by players and burned down by their enemies. No "player city areas" in this game.

See all those vehicles ? There to be built  and take them where you want to.

See all those mounts ? There to move your char around but be careful, they can be killed and you knocked off it.

See all those armors and weapons ? There (any one of them) to be build by players.

See those characters ? There to be formed as you want it, not some dev who thiks they know better than you.

    nope he is not =)

I think the animations need to be improved some, but for the setting the graphics are perfect.

Also not better than AC2...ps no one is taking you seriously anymore you know that right?

Gameplay > graphics...and the graphics arent even that bad, just not super high quality.  Plenty good enough to enjoy the game and lose yourself in it.

While this is a step in the right direction it's not a giant step.  They have had videos before.

So seriously DF fanboys you got thrown a bone with this video.  Nothing more nothing less.

You're all sitting around gloating with hard-ons over what, a video?  You're not playing a G-damn thing yet.  Until then stfu and try and show a bit of class and maturity.

If this games comes out and it's all that it's cracked up to be then tear into the trolls.  Until then... Shhhhh
