They all want rugged men with 5 o'clock shadows who reek of manliness, swing a mean ax and wear red flannel shirts.
Omg! can you imagine the carpet burn a girl gets from a guy with a rug like that?!!! no... clean shaven is always best for us girls ... and the mans face lmao! Now maybe he could be hawt if he took off his shirt and shaved! hahahahh!
Cut me some slack, there's not much to go on when you google Lumberjack.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
I could just see an MMO marketed to girls... AoE perfume clouds of doom... pet classes with nothing but kittens and unicorns (both with pink ribbons in their hair)... staying up all night to talk in between killing each mob... epic raids of Macy's Labor Day sale... bridal shower PvP...
Unknown: I agree that my desires for a game as a female are overlooked. I will add that I am NOT speaking for all girls who play games when I tell you what I would like, but I will put together a short list of things that I think would be attractive to female gamers. 1. Character Customization Options - the best game for this hands down was SWG. You could wear pink high heels, and do your hair and makeup. Not all girls care about this, but you would attract many more girls to gaming if you give us a chance to glam up our characters. The Entertainer profession was great for us, and I knew loads of girls IRL in that game that had all their houses filled with clothes. 2. Houses - they are important! We like to decorate them and make them look beautiful, so lots of furniture, house styles, and options would be great here too. 3. Social Activities - we don't mind grouping, it's fun! It's fun to chat about things too, and whether it is a special holiday GM event, or just the guild getting together to throw an ingame party, this is very fun for us! Make the game incorporate social events as part of the gameplay. I also invite any girl gamers to disagree with these if applicable. I dont want to stereotype us, but I know I would like to see more games that cater to women's desires, and I think these are a few.

AoE perfume clouds of doom... pet classes with nothing but kittens and unicorns (both with pink ribbons in their hair)... staying up all night to talk in between killing each mob... epic raids of Macy's Labor Day sale... bridal shower PvP... So yeah, basically Hello Kitty Online.
! ugh you actually think you know what girls want.. I have no desire for any of the things you said silly. wanting to be able to put an eye out with my stilettos is not the same as wanting pet classes. I don;t even want a pet in games, I would rather rip the guys apart with my bare hands than have a pet do it for me. We enjoy making the boys run home and cry to their mommies.rofl!
You know it is funny, I hate buying and selling on games so much I have people that do it for me. I just tell them what i want, and they bring it to me.
IT's OK to add dress up and dancing to a game, but it seems to sterotypical of what a submissive girl would do.
Submissive or not, it's the way we're put together. Most men tend to gravitate towards typical manly stuff, while most women is drawn towards typical girly stuff. It's some 50 million years of evolution there smacking you in the back of the head
Anyway, I think its a good idea to use stereotyping in game design. If you somehow can make a game that apply to both sex's stereotypical roles, the hunter in the men and the gatherer in the women, and do it well ofcourse, I think you got a bestseller on your hands. Ofcourse there are exceptions to this, but the stereotypes are there for a reason. Funny though that SWG pre-nge was the game that was nearest to this of all the games out there, but got smeared into a unrecognizable pulp by some idiot devs with the totally wrong ideas about what people actually want.
Would girls be attracted to Sci-fi style of gaming? We know that the sci-fi movie industry is huge compared to the adventure, which is why many developers now are wondering if that could work in mmo's as well. But the question is, with 45% women player MMO's would they like a Sci-fi mmo?
I'm not sure, but I know that I absolutely love sci-fi. Star Trek, Firefly,.. I eagerly await to play these games in MMO form, so long as they are not dumbed down for the ADD gamer. I desire complex and intelligent lore and fiction, or a mature, sandbox sci-fi world like in EVE online. I do not want WoW in space.
Most of my female gamer friends enjoy high fantasy, roleplay or PvE. I'm not so sure many of them would enjoy a game like Star Trek online, or Earthrise. But who knows.
Waiting for Fallen Earth, World of Darkness, Old Republic, FFXIV

What a load of rubbish, whats manly about sitting on your backside playing a MMO? If you were outside building fires rubbing mud on your face beating your chest with your fist and grunting at any passing wild life I might consider you manly...but your not nor are most men. You aint a hunter, you aint Tarzan or Chuck Norris your a pasty faced gamer who happens to be a man.
I believe the main diffrence between male gamers and females gamers is that females want more out of their games, more freedom, and less of the same generic crap they have be selling to us for the last 10 years. Why do you think SWG was so popular with women? Because you had unlimited freedom to do what you want, when you want, how you wanted. It appealed to the girly girls and the not so girly. Male gamers seem happy to play the same old tripe, which is probably why we will never have a game like SWG ever again.

There was a great article in the US Today last Wednesday concerning the blurring lines on what it means to be a man. The auther of the piece took the stance that boys have been lazier due to video games, TV, etc. He also attributed the decline in masculinity to lack of role models.
I consider your judgement a little narrowminded about some of us being less mature because we prefer fantasy over sci fi? Im sorry but fantasy can be just as complex and creative, and sci fi makes just as much sense as fantasy to some of us, because its still fictional regardless.
And I find this topic pointless, seriously what is the point? Girls differ from each other just like men do sure we are similar but alot of us have differant tastes, and girls can enjoy a complex game just as much as any of us guys here. In all honesty if you think this generation of women cannot enjoy games it sounds like you still believe they are not smart enough to play video games in general, this was never true now please stop the stereotype nonsense.
You know it is funny, I hate buying and selling on games so much I have people that do it for me. I just tell them what i want, and they bring it to me.
Do you pay them for their services or do you order them to get your stuff? Boy, you are a harsh taskmaster. Or do you use feminine charms to trick them into serving you?

Girls would never be attracted to a sci-fi type MMO. We are easily distracted by flashing lights and oooh shinies.
Seriously...what in hell. This isn't 1995, dear. Women have always been interested in science fiction/computers/fantasy (and not necessarily the type that involves something battery operated).
I am guessing you would be quite surprised at the amount of females that actually play sci-fi based MMOs
I agree I think there where more females on ryzom then ive seen in wow, and wow had many. I think there are atleast almost as many females who like many genres in games just as much as men now days.
I was not disagreeing as much as just responding, Impacatus.
Oh. Alright then. Thanks for getting my name right, BTW. Most people call me "Impactus".
You know, I really do wonder why more developers don't market towards females. Most of the features you and others have stated as appealing to girls do not seem like bad features, and I don't think that a larger female population would in any way hurt sales among the traditional mmorpgs markets. If anything it might help a good deal.

Of course they were paid for their serivices, though often I had many times that they refused payment because I treated them well all of the time. In my guild we had "merchants" that was the main thing they did for our guild. We took good care of our merchants, provided them with armor, weapons, food and protection. Our guild members had no worries in game. Part of what we did in our guild was to not only make our guild members strong, we made our members wealthy in game. "tricking " people does not make for good business practices , in reality or in game.
I would rather rip the guys apart with my bare hands than have a pet do it for me. We enjoy making the boys run home and cry to their mommies.rofl!
Okay, so what you're really looking for is a game where you can cook and clean and change babies' diapers right? The Sims Online maybe?
What does anything I said have to do with diapers, cooking and cleaning? The sims is a stupid game. I want to beat everyone down like the dog who stole the tv guide and you tell me to play the sims ... GEEEZE! Now Mortal Kombat ... that's a game I have fun in. I want more gore, more violence, and more freedoms in my mmos, and you tell me I want to go cook and change diapers. * hits you upside the head with a stinky diaper*
Sci-fi demands a bit more mature audience, which women tend to gravitate more towards (sorry guys, but we are the immature ones ).
Absolutely not. There is no evidence one way or the other that men are more or less 'mature' than women, and being mature is a pretty vague term. Both as an academic and in my personal life, I've never seen evidence that women are any way more mature than men, unless it's men amongst each other - whereas social psychology suggests it's the same when women are amongst each other.
IT's OK to add dress up and dancing to a game, but it seems to sterotypical of what a submissive girl would do.

It's about the fantasy and imagination of doing those things, not actually doing them. It's not rubbish though. Why do you think Barbie still sell so damn good? Why do most boys prefer to play with guns and little toy cars? If I was outside, rubbed mud in my face and grunted at every living thing, then I wouldn't be a man, I would be a neanderthal. Still, the stereotypes apply. You just stereotyped me cause I post on these forums. You got preset views about how I look, what I do most of the time, most probably think that I live at home with my mother, that I'm a 40-year old virgin and got no social life. So thanks for proving my point
