You all win. I admit this now.

...Just watched the new 17 minutes and 42 second video in HD just now. I only watched the videos earlier on youtube.

BIG DIFFERENCE!

Anyone that has only watched the Youtube videos, even in High quality, they don't do the actual footage any justice at all.

The real video is actually pretty impressive, especially the detail in the weapons, the sky, the terrain, and even some of the spell effects.

The ship combat looks a lot better on the real video, but still could use some work, but who's gonna complain...

Because I must admit, from their video... the game - if it resembles anything like the gameplay in that video... well the game looks really, really fun.

There, I've said it.

You fans win today with a much more impressive video then I ever expected. I confess this as well.

But I am still skeptical that this small team has the resources, the knowledge, and the funds and everything else needed to actually produce a solid, smooth running game client. I hope to hell I am wrong, because it does look like a lot of fun, and I'd love to play a game that even delivered half of what it promises to bring to the table.

So you DF fans win today, bigtime. And I hope you win when it releases, because we will ALL win if that happens.

I'm still skeptical about the final product. I'd love to see more interface video, and even some boring video of fighting mobs one on one and what it looks like to loot a corpse, what it looks like to craft an item, etc etc. Even though it wouldn't be nearly as exciting, such boring footage could excite me about this game a lot.

I admit. I am now curious and more hopeful then ever that all you fans are right and I have been wrong about Darkfall.

I still wish Adventurine the best of luck and think they will probably need all the luck they can get to get this game out and running halfway smoothing sometime this year.

But I am convinced now that Adventurine has been hard at work on a game that has probably been a dream to them for many years.

{Crosses fingers}

...Let's hope for the best.

{Bows before the fanboys.... Kneels to the ground.} "I believe more then ever, but still am VERY skeptical, so please stay patient with me and any skepticism I show for this game."

Cheers Zaxx, Now it's stage 2 and hoping they start to release more regular info and start the Beta as soon as possible. Watching the Vid as a whole on my PC instead of the snippets on Utube are worlds appart and agree.

    Fine, Fine, Fine...

I ate my words. A lot of them.

But don't get too proud guys. Adventurine is a HELLUVA long ways away from a successful game being released and playable.

Let's keep it real please. I won't constantly slam and attack the game any more, but let's please keep everything in perspective as well, and hope for the best...

From what I recall, looting a corpse is just like the days of UO with all the items scattered in a bag and you have to drag and drop the items into your bag.  They may have changed it since I last looked it up though.

At the very end of the video, was that a head being chopped off??? Sure looked like it! Now is this a part of the game, is this something that has been given as a known feature.. or is this a surprise to anyone here?

And also, love the fact that it looks like you can actually dodge projectiles.. cannon balls, fireballs, arrows etc. That looks to take a great feature of my old school Asherons Call! I'm excited to see that!

Looks like I'm gonna have to re-read some of the promised features and inner workings for Darkfall for the first time in about two years or so.

It takes a great man to admit he's wrong.

It's going to be a lot of people who will not.

But all that is history. The important one is that the marked finally is going to get a fantasy skillbased sandboxgame.

We are going to build kingdoms with or friends and ruin our enemies Not zerg style but really take their resorces and destry their towns.

Most important thing we'll have freedom and a lot of fun.

And yeah, I think that was a head. We'll see if we can collect them :)

I found watching the video was like watching an old 1980's flick like Halloween or The Toxic Avenger.  If It was back in 1980 this game would be badass but unfortunately the game looks so aweful for a 2008 production.

I'm not playing UO, DAoC, VG, MATRIX, CoH, CoX, and the list goes on.... The games all have great features but all suck in the graphics department.  You know PONG was a great game but isn't anymore. Darkfall is in the same boat.

Well I am looking forward to this game. However the game will have a small amount of players (compared to mainstream games) and I am really afraid of poeple logging in in the middle of the night to distroy a town of poeple they know will most likely be offline. I wonder how this will be handled and solved.

woah woah woah...wtf...thats just not fair....you have gone from a waste of space to gaining a LOT of respect from me.

I was trying to explain to people about the difference in quality...and the youtube video is probably doing more harm than good with people watching it in low quality.  it really is night and day.

I think you missed a bit of sarcasm in Coman's post there .

And to the OP, I agree about the environments in the HD vid, they were really stunning. Nice variety and nice atmosphere. Agree also about the visuals for the ship combat being a bit average (the explosions are a little 1995'ish). But overall, Damn, what a vid!

  • ThardonThardon Member Posts: 2

I have to agree with Zaxx about this video. It sucks major arse when you watch it on YouTube( the graphic does atleast ), but the trailer looks waay better if you download it. Migth take a while but it's worth it for sure.

Takes a lot of courage to do what you just did. Respect.

And as for the people that don't like the graphics, animations etc and believe they are more important than gameplay, fine it's your opinion. That doesn't mean that there aren't people that like the graphic style and don't give a damn about the animations as long as the game is as much fun as it appears to be in this video...

    Till next time...

This thread delivers.  Like I have said before.  I have no problem with apologizing.  When the beta starts you are more then welcome to create a thread saying "Place your apology here".  Hell I will even let you decide what I say in it.  If I'm wrong I have no qualms about admitting it.

I don't think any of us skeptics, really have a problem with it.  Whether we were right or wrong.  It's still win/win for all of us.  (Supporters and Skeptics alike)

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

Impressed by this thread : ), welcome aboard !

The video really showed freedom, big battles and a few spells. Though i will admit the graphics are a bit effiy but Gameplay>Graphics anyday, besides it dont look that bad anyway.

Would of liked to see more gamplay footage of interface/proffessions but hopefully we'll receive such videos in the near future?

Any words on the beta? whats the application for ? open or closed beta?

  • TdogSkalTdogSkal Member UncommonPosts: 1,244

Well done OP.   Glad some people on these boards can man up and admit when they are wrong.

Second the Video in HD is amazing.  The youtube version is okay but the HD version shows the game in a whole new light.

Also everyone must remember that the game is still in beta so the animations will get better so will the spell effects.

I just cant wait, that video was amazing, the battles were great, the ships were amazing.  The Cities were cool and I love how you can climb things to ambush people.

THIS i didnt expect from the OP.

Im utterly shocked to be honest.

Anyway, cudos to the OP for the balls he showed us.

    Have a nice one

i dont care about graphic, or even lore

i care about gamplay!!! which brings me to my point, whats the incentive of sieging an enemy guilds ship/city in darkfall?

WAR has clear incentives in place that grease theRvR gears, i saw players sieging a ship in the vid, are they guna win that ship? what are the PvP incentives?

im not a troll, ill prob give this game a try, but ive playd WAR & the PvP(RvR) rocks, what insentives does darkfall have thats guna make my guild wana siege another guilds ship/city? hope darkfalls PvP doesnt end up liks AoCs PvP

They took over the ship in the video, so the incentive is to steal other peoples ships... The sieging of Enemy guilds will allow you to take more resourse which will allow your crafters to make more equipment.  It also takes away your enemies town, so now they have to rebuild it some where else.

What is great about Darkfall is that the "incentives" are player made, meaning that you make up your own reasons for doing anything you want....So lets say you want to be a pirate, you can steal other players ships.

Your guild will want to destory your enemies ability to wage war againts you, you do this by destorying their city which they use as a base of operations and a place were their crafters build things.

Zak for arguing in that other thread you and I really do have similiar opinions.  I was pretty reserved about this game for a long time but after seeing that video it looks like a blast.  I'm most impressed that this came from an independent company.  I suppose we won't know for sure until we get our hands on it.

Very nicely said Zaxx, I'm impressed. I take back everything I said about you in that other thread as it appears that unlike the common Troll you can be reasoned with. I'm glad you finally got to see the HD version of the footage as like you said yourself the YouTube coverage doesn't do the video any justice at all. Sure the graphics aren't top notch but you and I both know that is a very small part of what makes a game successful or not. You should play the game when it releases or in Beta if possible and than judge it for what it is. Darkfall won't be for everyone that is for sure but it does look like it has definite possibilities. Only time and Beta will tell for sure though.
