I will play a Female Warrior Priest because i dislike wearing skirts as a man + all male versions don't have hair as far as i know.

Bah, people still argue over this?

I play female toons from time to time, just because I spend a lot of time looking at the toons and honestly I'd much rather look at a female toon than a male toon.

My wife has pondered the idea of rolling a male toon for the same reasons, but usually doesn't as she says the male models are all fugly in every game we've played.

Now my own personal rules dictate that I don’t play female characters in MMOs ( am male by the by…) as when I tried it in WoW, I got dodgy whispers form what I can only presume were pre- pubescent teens. So anyone else in the same boat? Shall I just ignore the perverts?

Wait let me get this right your worried about the "perverts" yet the whole reason you want to play a female cartoon character because in your mind you find them hot? Oh teh irony

Interesting thread. Not sure how one is supposed to respond to it.

"I don't like talking to perverts, if they whisper me should I ignore them?"

WTF do you think? Do you think you will be FORCED to engage in cyb0r with them? Yes, ignore them. Is that really something that is worth taking the time to ask? Unless...maybe OP is one of those people that want TV shows or movies censored because he can't govern himself enough to simply change the channel or turn the TV off.

Now that I think about it...being /msg'd by guys is not the only issue.  I was in an AoC guild with a rather opinionated person and he didn't like the fact that some guys play female toons and he was rather vocal about it.

In 1991 when my best in-game friend Melda turned out to be a guy in real life, I married him. We're still married and still gamers today.

Honestly guys have all kinds of stories for playing female characters.not of them mean a damn thing other than that's what's fun. Also in many games, male avatars are just dumb looking (GW), or extra ugly (WoW Horde). or have terrible posture (GW & WoW). I wouldn't want to play an ugly bent up dude with bad skin so why would a guy?

As for "dodgy whispers" I havn't received any for years. But then I tend to play with my guild or on servers where I am known and thus everyone knows I am too old, married and I'll kick your butt.

Guys playing female toons are just trying to find an easy way to get gold and loot + favors in a mmorpg.

The 'looking to a female toons back'  aint a viable excuse imo. I really believe some of those guys dont feel confortable with their sexual orientations aswel.

the first time i used voice chat was in lotro, i didnt have my mic on. so i was typing to the female toon about joining their party. the female party leader kept telling me to turn on the mic so i could hear her explain the plan. i turned the mic on and it was a dude with a nerdy voice. it freaked me out. lol, i do not like playing with mics, it ruins the realness if the guy is playing a female toon, over voice chat. it's like having a transvestite in your party.

You're the one that doesn't sound comfortable with sexual orientation or gender identity if you are immediately suspicious and paranoid of males playing female avatars. What about in this game, where gender isn't always an option? Any guy that wants to play a Witch Elf character due to its specific ability and tool set is gay?

I-s-s-u-e-s.  Anyway, just my opinion. Enjoy your in-game sausagefest!

Did you ever think that maybe guys like to play a female character because the male characters look terrible? I plan to play a sorceress as well, I love the class, but hate the way the male sorcerer looks. I have done this in many other games as well because for some reason females in mmo's are always far better looking. So dont base your judgment on a few kids who begged you for gold, and I don't know where u get that men who play female chars are gay.

Most guys roll female toons in MMOs because if you are going to stare at a person's behind for all your playtime, might as well have it be a pretty sight

Edit: Oops, someone else posted this too

I'm in the same boat. Sorcerer is one of the classes I'm looking at for launch and I can't stand the way the male dark elf concept art looks. Something about massive, ornate headdresses just doesn't jive well with males. There is an option to hide your helmet but long, flowing hair isn't much better.

Pathic...I assume you mean pathetic? The only thing I see pathetic here is someone who gets worked up over pixels in a freaking video game, as if they are in any way representative of something as complex and still poorly understood as human behavior and gender identities.

In the end it's only an issue if one thinks it's an issue.

What I find funny is that this is being thought of of as an issue by healthy people.

As long as the person who is playing it is sure about what he or she is about there is no issue.

It's not any more perverted to look at a toon of a different sex any more than it is looking at the same sex.

I highly question any person who thinks it is. where the heck did they crawl out of? What backwoods lovcrafting horror of a small ingnorant town do they live in?!?!?

Just reading the first post, I can say you don't have to worry. Sorceresses can be male, because Malekith needs more PEW PEW to killz teh shiny elfz. And women-only just don't cut it, so he let men become sorcerers too.

But yeah, I understand your concern. I never play female characters either because if I need to look at a girl's ass, that's what my girlfriend is for.

You could play a male sorcerer.

I play female chars all the time and I never get tells.  They very few I do get I just ignore.

Throw some evil eyes in or a scar/burn. To push the 'kiddies' back a bit. Then you'll just get the real freaks.

I never usually do (roll female). These seem different though. Elegant and deadly in one package.

can always use the excuse its true to the lore.

I do not understand why any person would feel a need for acceptance of his peers to play a character of his choosing, in a game he payed for and continues to "rent".  You don't know these people, they have no right to question your choices so why should you care, love how you like.

More fool them for trying to flirt with someone who only exists in a hard drive zipping about as electrons to and fro between your computer and theirs.  Desperately they try to evade their quasi-guilt and self made shame over something that never existed in the first place.  People should be more forward, if they want to flirt online they should ask up front and save the trouble.

Perhaps if all else fails maybe they can introduce a seedy nightclub and sleezy hotel for all those people who really do want to get it going online on a safesex pseudo date.
