WoW
WoW has many more combat features, things like fear, stealth, blink, intercept, distract, flare, and so on.
WoW has better pve, hands down.
There are more opportunities to individualize your toon in WoW.
WAR
WAR has solid toons that collide, you can't pass through another's toon.
WAR has RvR where you'll pvp with hundreds of other toons on screen.
WoW is better at pvp, pve and rp. WAR is better at large scale combat. If you're not interested in large scale combat, WAR is not for you, go play WoW or LOTRO.
The amoutn of fanbois in this thread is staggering. You guys are overhyping this far too much.
War is a decent game, and that's it. Most of the classes use the same system. Use skills X to generate special bar to use skills Y. Everyone is pretty much a type of rogue.
PVE is terrible in this game. I've never seen a worse AI. Ignores you when you are 3 feet away. Will run away 10-20 feet then come back when you begin to engage them. WIll leesh to their spawn point if you run 10 feet away.
PVP is pretty slow. Healers will neve rbe able to kill each other since they can generate mana infindeitly. NEEDING 5 people to kill 1 person is stupid. You wanna argue abuot how you need to be for the guidl or for the realm? Yeah no. WoW is so successful because it does something no other mmorpg did before. Rewarded the single player.
Every other mmorpg out there requires a party to do anything. And WAR follows that line all too well. The hardcore might like it but you will NEVER get the numbers or the popularity for casuals who are required to dash into rvr and find a group to be able to kill 1 person.
Underwhelming is what this game is. You guys toss out theroys all you want, thats what most of the counter arguments are. But this game will not dent WoW nor will it have anywhere near the numbers you will hope for.
Maybe if this game was less of a clone. Heck AoC might of bombed but at least it's fighting system was actualyl DIFFERENT. can't say that for WAR.
I am not trying to Bash either game here, but i played Wow for 2 years, and i am looking at War and its videos, can anyone truly explain what the major differences are between these 2 games, everytime i look at the War videos on youtube, if it didnt say 'warhammer' on the title of it, i would guess 100% it was a Wow video, so anyone know what the real difference in game play is between these 2 games, or are they very, i mean very similiar in playing styles....
One is old and one is new and refreshing. Also one is fun atm for moi!
lets not compare everything to WoW. "energy bars" are not an invention of WoW. all classes in Guild Wars use a small capacity fast regen energy bar, plenty of other games use this system because the game doesn't have to be completely different in PvP and PvE. slow regen mana bars make for PvE that is all about conservation, but PvP that is all about burst that throws all the high damage/healing per mana spells out the window for the faster ones.
energy bars make PvE and PvP function more closer to each other, making it much more simply to balance PvP or PvE without screwing the other one up.
You could even compare this to EVE where you have fast recharging "cap", and pretty much everything you do is based on what you can SUSTAIN, not what you can push out before you go OOM.
there are far too many fanbois in this thread, both those of WoW *waves at vick* and of WAR.
and yes, half of the classes are the same (well, except iron breaker and chosen) because they mirror each other. in WOW you only have 3 different classes (4 with the expansion). the rogue, the warrior, and the caster. at least WAR has 11 different classes right now.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.

The first point in this post isn't really true. For every ability WoW has WAR has something unique as well. Knockbacks, knockdowns, abilities that pull you to the enemy, spell delays, abilities that cause you dmg if you cast spells, abilities that cause you dmg if you move, abilities that absorb dmg meant for others, dmg debuffs that work unless you attack someone etc. There are just as many different types of abilities.
There are also more ways to individualize yourself in WAR than WOW. The only real thing WoW offers that WAR doesn't is reputations and most people would get rid of those if they could~. WAR has renown points that WoW doesn't, talents just like WoW, PvP style ranks just like WoW, crafts just like WoW. It also has the trophy system and dyes so you don't look just like everyone else and tome unlocks that give you tons of fluff titles etc.
Finally the last paragraph isn't really true either. WoW does PvE better than WAR overall but to be honest leveling via PQs is more fun than just quest based leveling that WoW offers, so it is really only the end game PvE that WoW beats WAR at.
WAR scenarios are much better than WoW BG's and WAR's world PvP is loads better than WoW's. That leaves WoW with a PvP advantage in arena and WAR with the advantage in every other aspect of PvP. So it really depends on what you want out of a game. Do you want end game PvE and arena or world PvP, leveling PvE that is more fun and better scenarios.
i havent had fun with wow since 2006 and its 2008, stopped subbing wow after burning crusade ruined the fun plain and simple. the tastes of war i got in closed beta and preview weekend have sent me into symptoms of withdrawl waiting on ob on the 7th, wow never had me that hooked, never.

Ok so I only got threw 2 pages of this thred, before I wanted to reach over and unplug my computer. so truth is if you are paying $14 a month to play WoW there is a reason you have stuck around. myself been play WoW since first beta ( main toon has 428 days played) and Tryed the War beta. I was totally unimpressed, like others in my guild. we were hoping for something NEW and they dropped the ball yea the RvR was kinda cool but after 100 games it was so so. the questing was ok I didnt really like the whole everquest graphics. as far as being a WarcraftBlizzard fan for years I will stay with WoW for at lease 6 more months. To see what lynch king brings as well as you all know War came out with a more pvp Idea than pve, so blizzard will look at that and more than likely make an update. and hearing that War was going to cost $26.50 amonth to play it I was like . maybe in 6 months the price will drop a lil and it wont have as many bugs. yes WoW is a little bit out dated but they always seem to fix something in the ongoing patches. and for all you who have played WoW for ever and a day, well I can say for $14 a month, It has always been there for some thing to do, you know you can log on and lose 2 hours of your day.

Thank you for the ability to play Warhammer and I hope this will help your beta.

Speaking of fanbois, you're exactly what you moaned about in your first line. Like WoW just a little bit? lol
The system is familiar for a reason. Mythic stated they were taking 80% of what's out there that's familiar and easy for most MMO players to use BECAUSE of the familiarity. There was no hidden agenda in that so get over it or move on.
PvE's not what this game is about. If you've not understood that then perhaps you should go back to WoW. The game's focus is RvR. Let me repeat that so you understand: The game's focus is in RvR. It's not MEANT to be solo-friendly because it was never DESIGNED to be so. That's where the 20% difference from most successful MMO's comes into play. Again, if you don't like it, fine. Move along and let those who DO embrace RvR give it a go without bemoaning what it's never meant to be.
Oh, and the fact you referenced healers using mana instead of AP. Pretty much nullifies any credibility you've got. Read my first line again.
If at first you don't succeed, pay someone who will.

I see, so you've played to 40 and gone into a major realm battle to secure a keep? You've taken a city and opened up dungeons and a boatload of new content? No? Hmm.... Lemme guess: you played 100 SC's or you took the same Tier 1 tower 100 times? Didn't really push past any significant point, did you? Pretty much throwing out the game well before you got to the 'good' stuff.
the questing was ok I didnt really like the whole everquest graphics.
Come up with a new engine for a game and then call me, otherwise please stop comparing graphics as it's baseless.
as far as being a WarcraftBlizzard fan for years I will stay with WoW for at lease 6 more months. To see what lynch king
Er, you may want to read the expansion title again sometime. The word 'Lich' comes to mind. Just a suggestion
brings as well as you all know War came out with a more pvp Idea than pve, so blizzard will look at that and more than likely make an update.
I have no doubt Blizzard will see WAR as a game that has come up with certain innovations and try to encorporate them, in order to keep it's player base up. Kinda ironic for a game that's 'so so', eh?
and hearing that War was going to cost $26.50 amonth to play
WRONG. Mythic decided ages ago to keep sub costs in-line with what's popular out there, namely $14.99 a month. Yeah, you really did your research.
it I was like . maybe in 6 months the price will drop a lil and it wont have as many bugs.
I was in the WoW open Beta as well. I do recall plenty of bugs in that game pre-lease AND at startup as well. As far as WAR's bugs, they didn't crash to desktop and I was able to play RvR with a huge number of people in open areas with no noticeable lag. Anybody remember IF when more than 50 people were in the immediate area before Blizzard tried to improve the latency and framerate issues? Uh huh.
yes WoW is a little bit out dated but they always seem to fix something in the ongoing patches.
And just like WoW, Mythic will no doubt fix their bugs as well. DOH!
and for all you who have played WoW for ever and a day, well I can say for $14 a month, It has always been there for some thing to do, you know you can log on and lose 2 hours of your day.
And since WAR promotes you to play whenever you find the time and doesn't shove raiding down your throat as end game content, you can similarly log in and lose 2 hours of your day without a hitch. I fail to see your point. And I've already addressed the 14 bucks thing.

Let's point something out to you and your guildmates: WAR doesn't HAVE BG's or raids. It was never meant to. Teamwork takes more effort than epic gearing up and stepping in to repeatedly kill a series of farmable bosses or rush to the end of the zone and cap a boss for gear-based rewards. The RvR classes are meant to work together as a group to assist the overall group efforts. It takes REAL teamwork to take on the dynamics you'll face in WAR, not the cookie-cutter gear-based lot in WoW.
Thank you for the ability to play Warhammer and I hope this will help your beta.
A bit hypocritical since the only real thing you did was bash and downplay WAR and off-handedly dog EQ. Go back to WoW and please don't post in the WAR section if you the only thing you can do is find fault.
If at first you don't succeed, pay someone who will.

RvR isnt the scenarios. Scenarios are just a small part of RvR (very small actually). Although is totally understandable because of the origin of people (WoW) and how PW, PW+ and OB was conducted that some people see RvR as just scenarios.
Besides, where did you hear the 26.5 per month? They said 15 bucks per month. Do you have information that Mythic changed its mind? Any link?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the thing that most sets WAR apart from WoW is the Open World RvR. If all you WoW fanbois do is confine your world to instances (scenarios), you'll only be doomed to boredom over the long run since they all (by their very nature) have the "staleness by repetition" problem.
Blinding wall of text, here we come!I'm going to quickly tell my story. After playing Warhammer and thinking it was so so I decided to resubscribe and download to World Of Warcraft. Feeling like I wanted to get back into a Cartoon like game I gave it a shot. TOOK ALL DAY to reinstall and patch World Of Warcraft. Mind you I played in open beta then quit 6 months after that. Luckily, I had Burning Crusade free trial sitting on my account. I did play some of the Burning Crusade expansion at a friends house when it was first released but never re-subscribed my accounts. Anyways, so I got my free 10 day trial on my account and it was re-activated for 10 days today! Alright, awesome. Get done downloading and installing the game, great. Patching takes forever, fine. I watched Black Sheep in the process of waiting, lol.
So with Warhammer giving me the fever to play World Of Warcraft again I log on to Wow. Enter my account information and login. Wow, very cartoony. The graphics for some reason aren't what I am expecting. Up to this date; however, I've given Blizzard nothing but respect. I've also said only good things about World Of Warcraft. I enjoyed the early days. I logged in today, played in Winterspring a little bit. Few minutes went by while I was grinding and a Rogue popped out of no where and owned me with his tier 4 gear. Oh, whatever. So I get back to grinding....15 minutes later I logged off and probably won't log in again. Why? I got bored. The graphics in that game just don't appeal to me anymore. Whereas for some reason, now I'm even MORE hyped for Warhammer. Warhammer isn't a game that I think will keep me entertained for a long period of time; however, I think it will keep me entertained until the next big release.
I do think I will be trying WOTLK. However, I just don't think World Of Warcraft should be the most popular game anymore. It's just too gear oriented. Everything is based on what gear you have. Nothing takes skill. If you don't have good gear at the same level as a guy with Tier 3, you're toast. I feel as if World Of Warcraft will never be what it used to be in my eyes. Back in the day getting out of Asheron's Call I was ecstatic when I first saw Wow's Cinematic Trailer...it was the 1st time seeing graphics like such and watching Characters SWIM UNDERWATER! I was very excited and loved every minute in and out of beta. Now, it's very boring. To me it's now a childish game. Oh, yell at me if you want. World Of Warcraft is meant for the casual gamer who likes pretty colors. I'm sorry; I'm just sick of that type of game play. Instancing 24/7 to get the best gear and stand in Shat thinking "I ROCK".
Warhammer, oh yes. I didn't like Warhammer in open beta at first but it grew on me. It's still a so-so game. However, after logging in to wow today for the 1st time in 3 years and noticing it hasn't changed much really made me realize that Warhammer is something special. The graphics are a lot more clearer and less cartoony...they feel like a mix between a game such as Lineage 2 and Wow. Lineage 2 is nothing like Warhammer however has nice graphics. I am eager to play warhammer to say the least. I can't WAIT for Retail to start for pre-orders coming Tuesday. I wasn't looking forward to it this much until today. With it being a new game and all, gives me more reason to love it. I can start fresh and be great and find a good guild to join. I'm looking forward to release to say the least. Even though Warhammer DOES have it's flaws; I'm hoping it keeps me entertained until Darkfall, Aion, or some other game that may be the next best comes out.
Warhammer will take skill. It's not based on gear so much which I love. If only they fix the chat system; I'll love the game even more. I think I was giving Warhammer too much hell. I critqued everything about it. When logging into wow; I realized wow is a much childish version of Warhammer. It's more so for children and Warhammer is for adults. PVP is what it's all about anyways. With Warhammer having less content and getting boring eventually; I think I'll still enjoy it. Overall, I'm also sick of people comparing the 2. They have no comparison. Other then Battlegrounds. Thank Goodness Warhammer doesn't have rogues, mana, etc..
Warhammer - 8.3/10 So Far.
World Of Warcraft - 8.2/10 Since they haven't changed.
P.S. I'm not trying to compare. I'm just ranking both in my opinion. I'm getting sick of the comparing and am only replying in this thread. This is my LAST TIME having Warhammer and Wow in the same thread.

wow rewards the single player? so, what exactly does this single player do in order to progress in purples? wow IS all about the purples (or better)... so how exactly does the single player progress in purps?
for all your ranting, you seem to forget how crappy wow was at release... OR how wow was 6 months past release on MANY servers (such as hyjal).
you also seem to forget that wow has ONLY ever taken from other games and tried to improve upon the items they've 'borrowed'. that still persists present day.
so, take it for what it is...
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
I am not trying to Bash either game here, but i played Wow for 2 years, and i am looking at War and its videos, can anyone truly explain what the major differences are between these 2 games, everytime i look at the War videos on youtube, if it didnt say 'warhammer' on the title of it, i would guess 100% it was a Wow video, so anyone know what the real difference in game play is between these 2 games, or are they very, i mean very similiar in playing styles....
1. There are already 1,000,001 posts about the same issue.
2. Do some more research. There is plenty of info out there on what gameplay mechanics are in WAR that seperates it from WoW. But won't go into it here. (see number 1.)
3. There's the whole mess on the subject of why WAR looks like WoW. Just go look at the WAR videos and compare it to the 25year GW IP they are identical. This is all I will say on the subject. (again, because see number 1.)
Why even post this? /sarcastic " There are already 1,000,001 posts about the same issue."

So upcoming games are aloud to copy from WoW but WoW is not aloud to copy from them? Honestly I've been seeing people throw this card for the past 6 months to defend WAR. Honestly, it's the most hypocritical thing I've ever seen.
all wow has ever done is copy from other games... from it's beta to present day... so what's the point of the above?
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
hence no seamless open worlds, but LOADED screens between zones When did loading screens become the measure of the gameplay itself? I mean, I realize there are people who don't like them... but last time I checked, the game play doesn't take place in the loading screens, but in the areas between them. Since when is a world being seamless or not such a defining factor in how good the game is overall? The whole loading screen thing seems like a straw man argument to me.
hence no underwater worlds. And...?
Qualify this for us... How does no underwater worlds hurt the gameplay, exactly? What's "missing" by not having them?
How much time in WoW, or any other MMO, do you spend underwater?
How would having underwater areas improve the game?
Why is this something you feel is important enough to be a "gotcha" against WAR?
Or... is it just another strawman argument conjured up as ammunition? I'd say it is.
hence no flying units (and Warhammer lore is FULL of flying units). And who's to say they won't be added later? Are they preventing people from playing the game right now? Is it making the game unplayable? Is it rendering certain areas un-reachable?
Nope. So...
Another strawman argument. and about a 66% cut in the promised siege cities even 3 months before release. If you know as much as you claim about the game, then you know the major role cities play in the game. These aren't just "quaint places to go with auction houses and travel waypoints".
They made the decision to cut out some of the cities for now and focus on making 2 of them - one for each side - complete and polished. They can go back and add the others later at an equal level of quality... without having to rush them.
I'll bet if they'd rushed them in just to have them, or delayed the launch to get them in, you'd be knocking them for that, too. Those still believing that WAR has better PvP animation : you just type Warhammer video in Google and look at ALL the video stuff you can find. Yes, because videos from beta and earlier are a fair representation of the game now.
Another strawman argument.
No excuses: the PvP fighting in War is slow with "gliding" characters and incredibly stiff. Even LOTRO had better animated avatars (and that says a LOT).
Last time I saw any sliding was preview weekend. As for the animation thing.. already covered that. NO PVE raiding at all (unless you want to call ONE instanced end boss a viable raid.)
Hmm... little focus on PvE raiding in a primarily PvP game... Heresy!
Another strawman. Also the fact your avatar turns into a chicken when entering lower zones is a real laugh.
Not at all. It's a dutifully effective way to handle players who think they're going to prey on players many levels lower than themselves by going in to areas they have no business to be in.
Given the typical behavior of lowbie gankers in other PvP MMOs who prey only on those they know they can beat, but then run at the first sign of someone less than 10 levels lower than them, turning them into a chicken is quite appropriate. They finally get to resemble their behavior.
Those who are truly into competitive PvP against players their own level won't be affected by it, because they won't be looking for PvP in lowbie areas in the first place (except maybe to try the chicken thing out themselves).
Mind you "awesome" in Paul's view is a rather often used word to describe something that has been seen in about every MMORPG ever published in the last 5 years.
So you believe that something can't be "awesome" or "fun" unless it's entirely 100% original and doesn't borrow from anything from what came before?
How do you live? Practically *nothing* is that original... games or otherwise. The professions are far too limited, (opinion) t he world far too small (opinion)(certainly after the 66% cut in City sieges) (already covered that, but yeah... it's not like MMOs continue to expand and evolve beyond what they are at launch. Oh wait, yes they do...) and the end game is purely based on RvR with EVER repeating grind to... reconquer what you already conquered before.
No way... A RvR game, promoted as a RvR game, with game mechanics based primarily around RvR actually has an end-game comprised largely of RvR? WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?
And what's this? The players can continuously fight for control over land, cities, etc that can then be taken away from them again by the opposition? INSANITY! What game would ever do that (aside from the numerous other games - MMO and otherwise - that have similar mechanics, that is). Suddenly for the fans, instanced battlegrounds are not that negative anymore ...
Who exactly are you speaking for? ....and of course the big difference between War and Wow is that War will be the 9th Wow killer in a row. Another strawman argument.
A game doesn't have to be a "WoW Killer" to be a successful game, nor to be a fun game (esp. since "fun" is subjective anyway).
Contrary to popular belief and despite how much people like yourself insist on perpetuating the myth, not being a WoW killer doesn't make a game a failure.
Frankly, the only people who care about it being a WoW killer or not are those who need to feel they're playing the "better MMO". The rest of us couldn't care less, 'cause we're too busy enjoying ourselves.

One is old and one is new and refreshing. Also one is fun atm for moi!

...I'm in your panties
lets not compare everything to WoW.

Do you want end game PvE and arena or world PvP, leveling PvE that is more fun and better scenarios.
war is fun and new
wow is old and stale
i havent had fun with wow since 2006 and its 2008, stopped subbing wow after burning crusade ruined the fun plain and simple. the tastes of war i got in closed beta and preview weekend have sent me into symptoms of withdrawl waiting on ob on the 7th, wow never had me that hooked, never.
Same here
Ok so I only got threw 2 pages of this thred, before I wanted to reach over and unplug my computer. so truth is if you are paying $14 a month to play WoW there is a reason you have stuck around. myself been play WoW since first beta ( main toon has 428 days played) and Tryed the War beta.
WOW pve = 8 (10 with a good patch)
PVP= 6 (need a new battle grounds)
WAR pve = 4 ( maybe it was the beta but way to many bugs, maybe it was like playing everquest all over again)
RVR = 7 ( was cool in the beging but like I said after 100 games it was like all other battle grounds)
when Talking with my guild members we prettymuch all agreed when a battle grounds has more to do than just kill each other it is fun cause when working as a team (ie. vent) every one has a job and we all wished developers would understand that )
Thank you for the ability to play Warhammer and I hope this will help your beta.
Oh please..not another one..
Hello,
Blinding wall of text, here we come! I'm going to quickly tell my story.
You my friend are what I like to call a dickhead.
The difference is, I enjoy one and not the other.
P.S. I can't stand WoW.

'Cry Havoc, and Let Loose the Dogs of WARRRRR!!!'
He posted that because it's true, and personal attacks are against the RoC here by the way.

The OP is asking a question. You take the time to rant saying look elsewhere, then your are a.......well you know, in my opinon.
